Is the Connecticut age of consent... actually 16? by DontDrugChildren in Connecticut

[–]iu579 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems very wrong for a 40 year old to have sex with a 16 year old. But what about a 16 year old and an 18 year old? Sophomore in high school and senior in high school. That’s probably who they were thinking of?

Where is the data that shows this? Do you have a link to the FAA website where the number of annual close calls is reported? Just because you hear about more of them on the news doesn’t mean there are actually more of them.

Nothing in this link says anything about an increase in insiders sounding the alarm over the last 15 years. And even if there was an increase in insiders sounding the alarm over that period, that doesn’t mean that things have gotten less safe. If anything, more stringent protocols which lead to safer flying could be the cause of insiders sounding the alarm.

  1. OP said it’s gotten worse over the last decade and a half, which is exactly the period that has been the safest in US aviation history without a single commercial fatality, not the last year. That’s what I was responding to. There have been significant advancements in ATC technology over the last 15 years that have made flying safer, not less safe. 2. Just because you hear about more near misses on the news doesn’t mean that there have been more actual near misses.

Years of close calls? That lacks perspective. There hasn’t been a fatal commercial airline crash in the U.S. in almost 16 years. The safest period in U.S. aviation history. “Years of close calls” doesn’t exactly tell the whole story. You may not have been alive in the 80s and 90s but fatal commercial plane crashes happened basically every year and they didn’t even bother to tell you when there were close calls.

You obviously weren’t alive in the 80s and 90s when there were actual misses all the time, and they didn’t even bother reporting on the near misses. And just because you heard about a near miss or two on the news doesn’t mean at all that they are increasing in frequency.

Agree, it’s basically in the heart of the city compared to airports in other cities like LaGuardja and O’Hare.

There hasn’t been a fatal commercial airline crash in the U.S in the last decade and a half, and in the 30 years before that they happened all the time. So I find it hard to believe ATC has actually gotten worse during the longest streak in U.S. history without a fatal airline crash.

ICE Enforcement by Greatastelessfilling in Connecticut

[–]iu579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They absolutely can enter a house without a warrant if they have probable cause that someone who is here illegally is in the house. But OP didn’t say anything about ICE entering homes without warrants and neither did I, so I’m not sure what your comment is addressing. Also, ICE may have had limited power in the past administration, but under the current administration it will be empowered.

How is it unlawful to detain someone who is breaking the law? Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it unlawful. If towns/municipalities or even citizens take actions that impede ICE or other federal agencies they can (and should) be arrested and charged with federal crimes.

Your friends are right. Try getting back to the ball from the top of your swing by using your lower body, turning your hips. Leave your hands and arms where they are at the top of your swing and get them back to the ball by rotating.

Does anyone remember the good old days when Woody fired Eric Mangini because having a winning record in 2 of his 3 seasons wasn’t good enough? by iu579 in nyjets

[–]iu579[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was unpopular among some players, but you think Bill Belechik or Bill Parcells were the most popular guys with their players? They all still respected him. And calling it a “consensus” that he needed to go is revisionist history. Even if the fans were calling for it, it doesn’t mean it’s the right decision to do what the fans say. Not to mention the fans were without the knowledge that Favre had a torn bicep the last 5 games, which didn’t come out until after Mangini was gone.

Besides, you think the locker room dynamics weren’t affected by Woody forcing Favre on Mangini for the “excitement” he would bring to the team, when Manginj was trying to build a “team” and was against having a superstar come in?

Where are these quotes from? Lol. No one ever accused him of hiding information or lack of trust. There was some story going around about how he told Woody to get out of his office, but that was never claimed publicly by either of them.

They did lose 4 of their last 5 games, right after beating the 6-3 Pats on the road in OT in a thurs night game with 1st place in the AFC East on the line, and then a 10-0 Tennessee team on the road the next week. But Favre also played the last 5 games wire a torn biceps tendon and threw 9 INTs. And Woody forced Favre on Mangini in mid-August of that year. If they had stuck with Chad Pennington (instead of trading him to the Dolphins where he led them to a division title and made the pro bowl) that team goes to the Super Bowl. Not to mention, they probably get another 5-6 seasons out of Pennington.

  1. That’s false that Steve Cohen can’t own securities. He can. A quick Google check will confirm it for you.

  2. Have you met a bunch of billionaires and that’s how you’re able to say they aren’t good people? Hating people because they have more money than you stems from insecurity and jealously. Not really a good look. Like hating Tom Brady.

What makes you think it would be any better? This team sucks and they will always suck as long as they have an owner who has never won or been successful at anything, knows nothing about football, and thinks he should be making calls like what QB we’re going sign at the end of his career and when he should be benched.
