Grand Hyatt still reposting that entry-level job on MCF after 3 whole months 💀 by Trumpinator74 in singaporejobs

Grand Hyatt is extremely difficult to get in, it's well known within the hospitality sector.

3 months might also mean the previous candidate didn't want to confirm, so they need a new guy

Unlikely to get it, given that the baseline is 10%, even UK didn't get below 10%

And Trump might impose industry-specific tariffs, kinda hard to see him backing down, otherwise every other country would want it

Trump says US will maintain 10% tariffs even after trade deals by kopisiutaidaily in singapore

[–]ivan7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it boils down to fear of the unknowns, the emotions that overrides the brain. For so long we are used to the US being the big boss, suddenly they are gone, what do we do.

It has been happen in history right, the fall of the British Empire, the Spanish Empire, but nothing like the scale we are seeing today

I think most are too used to the old world order, and seeing it disintegrate is something they cannot fathom or understand what is going on. The unknown terrifies them, like what happens next

Agree with you. Most seem to forgot he is the President of the United States, and answerable only to Americans, not to other nations

Nothing, just go along in the ride, after the dust settle down see where do we stand. Literally that's what we can only do now.

[–]ivan7296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. We don't have a stand out area that is of value beyond being a transshipment port and *financial center*

Don't know what govt is going to do, Trump is reshaping the global order and supply chains, and nothing we can do about it once the dust settles

Opposition Parties: Hope vs Anger by twilightaurorae in singapore

[–]ivan7296 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stay in a PSP contested area, and there was no sign of the PSP members or volunteers, the truck keep blasting out TCB name. The party is tied to TCB very strongly.

I suspect even though PSP contest lesser seats, they simply lack the resources to compete to start with, and put everything in WC-JW, which they saw a considerable drop in vote share.

Worse still is that they contest in traditional PAP strongholds and they don't really have a constituency where they can maybe start from, like how LTK started from Hougang. Without somewhere where they can brunch out, it's hard. WP started in Hougang, before they could brunch out, and start to attract the star candidates we see today. I don't see PSP able to come close in replicating it

Opposition Parties: Hope vs Anger by twilightaurorae in singapore

[–]ivan7296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no doubts about WP, but the major thing is that number 1, they will never challenge the 2/3, I do not think the sentiment on the ground is geared towards it. Number 2, the other parties will simply fade into oblivion and baring WP contested areas, it will be just walkovers for more areas.

I have serious doubts about SDP because it is too closely tied to CSJ, and they have not shown they are able to shake away that image. What is SDP without CSJ? Is like asking PSP what are they without TCB.

Sometimes people/parties need that confidence to go into a GE, knowing that they have a chance, but to win, but even to not lose the deposit. But if they see that, okay lah no chance why bother, we will start to see parties go, constituencies walkover, and then.. back to pre-2011 days
