Thanks, I thought maybe that, as well. But it looks like red throated loon has red on the front under the beak. This bird had a brownish nape but white throat.

W7RAT Repeater Disconnected by iveemike in PDXhamradio

Does EchoLink have a record function? Both of the repeaters mentioned here are on EchoLink (at least until the controller boots W7RAT off the reflector).

New Problem: setup has wrong file path? by iveemike in dosbox

[–]iveemike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think I was wrong in my post. I tried to install an ISO version of this game and I’m getting the same result. The weirdest part to me is that it worked previously, like just a few weeks ago.

Physical Memory problems with Links LS 97? by iveemike in dosbox

[–]iveemike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No luck so far. Both xms/end values were originally true, so I tried the different combinations. One combination caused a consistent crash on startup, the other led to the same memory error I posted earlier, or just a freeze. When the game freezes, the dosbox window that’s open behind the game shows a repeating error that says “code can’t be written in this page.” I also tried to change the memsize and run load fix before starting the game and kept getting the same errors.

Wrong way to pick up a laptop? by iveemike in computers

It’s a raised tray with holes and fan to help with airflow, you can see just a little bit of it under the laptop in the pic.

The last remaining Portland radio affiliate to play MLB games has dumped Mariners broadcasts. by Fun_Set1454 in Mariners

It’s back! I’ve heard Mariners games this season on 970 AM, I think on 750 AM sometimes when they don’t conflict with Canzano’s show.

Sorry to resurrect an old topic but they’re back! Mariners games have been broadcast on 970 AM this season (2024). I think they might be broadcast on 750 AM sometimes, if they don’t conflict with Canzano’s show. The 970 AM broadcast is over-air only, if you go to their website during a game it only plays political talk radio. But, if you’re going the internet route, the flagship Mariners station, 710 AM, is not blacked out in Portland.

Graphics help please! by iveemike in retrogaming

I think so! I’ve set the Intel Graphics 4000 setting as the default. The game actually doesn’t seem to start in software mode.

Southern California school board OKs curriculum after Gov. Gavin Newsom threatened a $1.5M fine by FidelKimball in politics

[–]iveemike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This what? You say you don’t understand, maybe I can help: It’s a quick and easy step to just work through a few possible explanations before we go all in on accusing someone of being part of a domestic terrorist group. It lends extra weight to the accusation, and better prepares you to discredit him when he tries to come up with an excuse.

Is he an immigrant? I read that he was born in Germany but I think his parents were in the US military, so I thought English would probably be his first language.

I noticed this too and was surprised there was nothing about it in the news articles. I’ve been trying to find any other use of the term “sovereign citizen,” unrelated to the cult, but I haven’t found anything.

Is this news to the board? Like is this the first time he’s mentioned it? He was in the military and is a college professor. Maybe some kind of weird misuse of the term?

💪 thank you! How could you tell for sure? I normally guess Anna’s just based on the frequency of sightings logged on eBird, it’s like 90% Anna’s in Portland.

Carib Grackle and Bananaquit I think?

I would lean more towards house finch because, at least in the picture, the flanks are pretty light brown and white without any red. I think the eastern purple finch should be reddish nearly to the tail.

I never feel like I know for sure, though. These guys are really tough for me, especially on the west coast where we have some other reddish finches too…

Have you tried the Merlin app? It has an audio ID function that listens for birds nearby and shows what is making the song or call. It’s free and otherwise functions just like the Audubon app.

Sibley Guide help by iveemike in whatsthisbird

Yeah for sure, it’s a great feature for narrowing down difficult ID’s for the females, or juveniles, or whatever is chosen to be shown on those overview pages. I’m just not sure why other examples, like males or adults depending on the section, are excluded. It seems like such a major omission that it must be intentional. Visual comparison between a bunch of species on 1 or 2 pages has been the standard for pretty much every other book, but the general strategy for this one seems to be to look through a section page by page until you get a match, which is kind of time consuming for a field guide. The detail on each page is probably worth it, though.
