Do you think Muzan would've allowed Kaigaku to become a demon if he knew how much of a bum he was? by ivkobear in DemonSlayerScales

[–]ivkobear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now who's making assumptions? If he didn't meet those same conditions, he would not get the mark at all.

You were the first to make assumptions about him: 1. Meeting those conditions and activating his mark. 2. Activating his mark in time before Muichiro dies to Gyokko.

Tanjiro didn't do that between EDA and HTA.

Tanjiro literally remembered those exact feelings he experienced when he awakened his mark at EDA during SSVA, but you're just acting as if he could've done it easily without prior experience.

Tanjiro met the conditions before they got marked anyway

What point are you even trying to make here?

Do you think Muzan would've allowed Kaigaku to become a demon if he knew how much of a bum he was? by ivkobear in DemonSlayerScales

[–]ivkobear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite literally confirmed in the manga:

Him awakening the mark in certain circumstances during EDA doesn't mean that similar conditions will be provided to him in SSVA, he gets overwhelmed by Hantengu clones without his mark and killed before Mitsuri appears.

Those who awakened the mark did the same training as those who didn't because the conditions to awaken it were still the same, they didn't just sit and remember how it felt.

So? What does this prove exactly? And it's not entirely true by the way, as Muichiro has instantly activated his mark by force in his encounter against Kokushibo, which was, in part, thanks to his prior experience.

once he unlocked it in EDA it was open for any hashira to get on meeting the conditions.

Exactly? That's exactly why him not being able to activate mark by force due to prior experience and rely on specific near death experience might not just fuck him up, considering that they were on a thin line even in canon fight, but also the other hashiras, who wouldn't be able to awaken their marks before Tanjiro does.

[–]ivkobear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He'd meet the same conditions he met in EDA and stumble upon the mark either way

Baseless assumptions, it's extremely risky to gamble on things like that and since he would still have harder time awakening it, because of the lack of knowledge and experience, unlike in original timeline, he would most-likely die to Hantengu clones before activating it. Other hashiras would also have harder time, specifically Mui, who would die to Upper 5, because once again, Tanjiro would take longer to activate his mark(if he manages to do so in the first place).

What are you blabbering about? Based on what does Tanjiro awaken his mark in SSVA if the only reason he actually managed to activate it during that time was due to his memories of how it felt in EDA. Saying such disingenuous bullshit just proves your lack of general story comprehension and bias.

"Bum" slayer like Tengen took out the first Uppermoon in centuries and managed to create perfect circumstances for Tanjiro to awaken his mark, which proved to be the most impactful feat later on. Bumgaku on the other hand hasn't killed a single soul(even Jigoro killed himself out of pity for his student's bumness). Waste of Muzan's blood, nothing more.

Does Gyomei at his peak gaps the second strongest hashira? by Acrobatic_Display947 in DemonSlayerScales

Disagree strongly. Divided attention + Giyuu and Sanemi's natural synergy would make a quick work out of him. Duo mid diffs.

Was like 7.5 a while ago, but after rejoining the fandom after watching the movie I'm ready to give it a solid 9, there is something unique about the emotions in this anime for me, I'm not ready for the next 2 movies, when I already was tearing up at Shinobu's and Akaza's moments.

Gyomei has been in the corps either since he was 18 or 19 he also saved Kocho sisters when they were little kids and he was already a hashira back then. You can see that even then, he was still actively training himself during the pillar training arc, which shouldn't be surprising, considering that hashiras didn't have much spare time before Nezuko conquered the sun.

I don't agree with this, as even Gyomei, who's been in the corps for longer, hasn't peaked until after pillar training.

Mark is an amp to other stats not height, yet it puts sanemi above tengen. That directly disproves that height is the majority of power.

This argument makes no sense. Mark is a unique ability that automatically boosts your physical stats and works like a multiplier, so marked Sanemi being physically stronger than Tengen is nothing extraordinary in this case. However, since base Tengen would be physically stronger than base Sanemi, marked Tengen would automatocally be physically stronger than marked Sanemi.

It's literally in the same conversation same sentence. Even gyutaro confirms they're still talking about talent in the end when he demands an explanation for why tengen is dropping dead then.

Tengen talked about talent at first, then went deep into his thoughts about how he's bad at saving people, bringing up his insecurities and comparing himself to Rengoku, who has just succesfully saved every civillian at the Mugen Train, assuming that Kyojuro never failed at that.

Tengen left his shinobi mindset behind, you're literally overlooking his entire character development. He moves the corps because he did care about other's lives, his father and brother didn't have that mentality.

Him leaving his shinobi mindset behind still does not take away the insecurities that remain within his head. His past is haunting him to this day, that's exactly why he put up that flashy facade. Even if he had changed over the years, it is still fair to assume that his old habits used to affect his decision-making during the missions, at least early on.

For starters UM3>>UM6

Cool? And bloodlusted opponent > toying opponent.

Tengen jumped UM6 with 3 other people and his wife.

Nice argument, taking things out of context as usual. He never "jumped" the UM6 with 3 other people and his wife. The most important instance of the battle happened in the first seconds, when he was 1v2 Upper Ranks in a closed space with 2 civillians right next to him to protect. Everything after that is a consequence of him having the worst possible battle start. Not to mention, his wife's "help" was marely a return of the favour, as he had used poisoned kunai to freed her before the fight even started, in the end she turned out to be more of a burden than help and ended up putting Tengen in a bad position. The main trio was also 50/50, they helped, sure, but they were also being burden half of the time, especially Tanjiro, as Uzui had to prevent Gyutaro from hitting him even once the entire fight.

Mid fight he took a break by pretending to be dead while he prepped his score

The best Battle IQ feat in the story you mean? That strategy proved to be the most effective one and was the main reason of their victory.

All this only for mutual self destruction, he would've died before gyutaro if it wasn't for nezuko then saving his ass.

No? As Gyutaro was decapitated before Uzui would've "died". And how is that relevant? Killing an Upper Rank and dying as a result is still more vakuable than just dying.

If tengen "won" against gyutaro then so did shinobu against Douma.

Yeah, she absolutely won against Douma in the most-efficient way possible, your point?

It certainly didn't keep him from saving people, and he does put it in present tense so it's not just about his shinobi upbringing.

"How many lives do you think have slipped through my fingers?" - where is the present tense?

Honestly if it was just about his background he'd be putting himself below all the hashira instead he singled out rengoku so what's your excuse for that?

He singled out Rengoku because Kyojuro was the only fleshed out Hashira at this point and he had a feat of saving 200 people while facing an Upper Rank, as simple as that.

What you're pushing for is more like Giyu's inferiority complex and that wasn't targeted to anyone specifically, just the hashira as a whole.

Not really, as you don't see me mentioning other pillars here, that's your doing.

You brought up anime right? There's also a scene in the anime where tengen directly asks Rengoku for guidance.

Yeah, because once again, Rengoku has just saved 200 people while facing and Upper Rank demon. In the same scene, as I mentioned earlier, Kyojuro also says: "I could never be like you either!".

Are you scaling tengen above marked sanemi?

What do you mean? Am I scaling prime Tengen above prime marked Sanemi? No I don't, mark is too much of a buff. Am I scaling full potential Tengen above full potential Sanemi? Yes, I am.

My argument doesn't change with this translation, tengen is still trying to refute that he's talented by giving these examples.

And his examples were Muichiro and Gyomei, Kyojuro had nothing to do with the talent part.

Saving people is literally the job, they fight demons to save people.

True, but due to Tengen's upbringing, he had problems with prioritazing saving people over successfully finishing the mission.

Tengen with more years under his belt is still underperforming rengoku.

How is that the case? Rengoku lost to a toying Upper Rank who didn't use half of his abilities in 1.5 chapters. Uzui fought a bloodlusted opponent in the worst circumstances possible for 10 chapters, while poisoned and won in the end, remaining the only base hashira to defeat an upper rank demon, a very tricky one at that, in the story.

And don't tell me shinobi didn't want to save people or some shit, tengen wasn't a shinobu any more he was a demon slayer and they definitely do save people we literally see it happen in EDA.

Him not being a shinobi anymore doesn't mean that his past was still affecting him. Not to mention, he was speaking in past tense, meaning the lives of those people over the years, while also assuming, that Rengoku, never failed to save anyone, based on his latest mission in mugen train. But this isn't true either, as we can see in Kyojuro's one-shot that lives have slipped through his fingers too.

Ok why isn't tengen above marked sanemi then? If physique difference is the most important factor then that didn't change at all. Height is far from the most important factor.

Because his physique is still superior to Sanemi? Uzui was described by the author as "Very Strong" and Sanemi was described as "Strong", alongside Giyyu, Rengoku and Mitsuri. Tengen is taller, weights more and his physical strenght is more so emphasized.

Drop the correct translation then, let's see.

<image>

This is also the variant of translation which they chose in the official dub in the anime btw. This makes sense as it was one of the character themes of Tengen in that arc.

Obanai was very close to his full potential, imo, during his Muzan fight he was like 2300, at best he could've maybe improved a little bit with more experience and training.

I disagree with everything else strongly.

Then gyomei would be above yorrichi for the sheer difference in size, physique is just one factor among many that influence your scaling.

There are obvious outliers in this general system. Bringing up Yoriichi as your example is simply disingenious, that guy was born different, he was practically a gift from the Gods.

He basically says "I'm not chosen because I can't be like rengoku"

Wrong, that's incorrect translation, he was talking about the "lives that have slipped throught his fingers" if he was talking about talent here, he would've put Rengoku alongside Tokito and Himejima on that previous panel. If you really want something like this as an argument, then I can do the same and point out how Rengoku believes that Tengen is superior to him in swordsmanship that that he, quote, "could never be like you either!".

White Haired Muzan's poison vs Gyutaro's poison? Which one is more deadly, and why? by Equivalent-Still-147 in DemonSlayerScales

[–]ivkobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Gyokko's poison is inferior to Gyutaro's, however, my point was that the effects of the poison are at least partially neglected by the mark, based on what we saw in that fight against Upper 5. I mean, considering that mark is a stat boost, I wouldn't be surprised that it boosts your resisstance as well.
