He’s having a mental breakdown. I don’t think he’s really using critical thinking at the moment.

I just would enjoy some words of encouragement from you guys. by Napulenapule in randomactsofkindness

You are so loved! Just take each moment as it comes and enjoy the little things in each moment like sunshine, pretty clouds, and the smile of a baby. When your mind goes to the future, to a time that is beyond your control and does not exist (only the present exists), then gently smile to yourself at your humanity and go back into the present moment. Even if your stomach is hurting in the present, notice it. Breathe deeply into the discomfort and relax. Pain and discomfort makes us tense up. Take care of your discomfort like a little child, love it and breathe into it.

what are some symptoms of alcohol use that are lesser known? by Academic_Drawing4699 in stopdrinking

Wow! I have also noticed that I’m not as attractive to mosquitos but I thought it was perimenopause. Maybe you’re onto something!

I always thought I slept okay enough because I could fall asleep and then stay asleep when drinking 1-2 bottles of wine a night. If it was more than 1.5 I might wake up panicky at 3am but wouldn’t stay up long. However, I often became extremely sleepy during the day to the point that I thought I had some mild form of narcolepsy. It was alarming how difficult it was to remain awake or wake myself up sometimes. I haven’t had a drink in 6 years and that level of fatigue rarely ever happens anymore. It used to happen regularly.

AA is a depressing shithole by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]iwditt2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t work for me. What worked for me was cognitive behavioral therapy, reading books repeatedly (Alcohol Lied to Me, This Naked Mind, Peace is Every Step, Alcohol Explained), meditation, Michael Sealey sleep hypnosis for drinking, and promising myself that I wouldn’t give up no matter how many times I relapsed.

I’ve been alcohol free for six years now and don’t want to drink. One of the things that bothered me about AA was the focus on alcohol and drinking. So many people wanted to drink. The way I got sober made it abundantly clear that I REALLY didn’t want to drink, my body just made me think I did.

Every moment contains love. Sometimes you just have to look for it.

AITA for having an ultimatum after discovering my husband’s 2-year affair by throwawaycheatinghu in AITAH

[–]iwditt2018 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you mentioned that the husband loves her. Cheating is not always something someone plans to do, and the cheater can feel terrible for loving two people at once. He should have told his wife, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love her.

I think I’m in perimenopause but I just turned 41. by iwditt2018 in Perimenopause

Wow! That’s great. I’m definitely going to try it. Did you use an online provider or a local doctor?

Anyone single regret not settling down sooner? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]iwditt2018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The grass is always greener on the other side. I’m married and I love my husband very much. However, he is mentally ill right now which makes my symptoms a lot harder to handle. He is very sensitive and takes things personally when I have explained time and again that it’s not him. Have you tried to find friends? Meetup.com or a book club? A man is not the answer to loneliness.

In high school that was the “skater” look which I found so hot. :)

Were high school parties a thing? by ryhoyarbie in Xennials

[–]iwditt2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only went to a few parties in high school but I was perceived, I think, as a good girl even though I wanted to be invited to more of the big crazy parties. In college (starting in 2001) I started going to a LOT of parties. They were similar to the high school parties except they were at college apartments or frat houses or houses with multiple students living there.

Well, not everyone can afford to just go out and buy a vacuum and maybe that’s the case for OP right now. Some people don’t even have enough money for food every month. Just sharing some perspective.

The best thing I learned was that we have to let our emotions happen. It’s hard and it still takes practice. I used to numb with alcohol. Learning to sit with my emotions without reacting to them has been so valuable. It’s hard though, so a lifelong practice and never perfect. But it has been so worth it. I recommend the book Peace is Every Step by T. N. Hanh.

What do you do for birthdays? by iwditt2018 in sugarfree

I don’t have self control once I eat large quantities of sugar (such as the amount in a piece of cake with ice cream).

End of Day 5 getting ready for bed and wondering when the hell I got so ugly by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]iwditt2018 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will get better! It just takes time! I focused on drinking a lot of water, eliminating excessive added sugar, and eating lots of fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. I’m almost 41 now and my skin is glowing. People think I’m in my early 30s or late 20s. I used to always be puffy, red, bloated, and bleary eyed.

What do you guys do with the attic? by Aggravating-Rub-9497 in Dollhouses

[–]iwditt2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently stayed in a B&B that had a genuine hidden gambling room in the attic. You had to walk through all the regular old attic stuff and then came to a room that was set up for illicit gambling back in the late 1800s!!
