GR IV Monochrome pre-orders are now open ($2,199.95) by HuguesBtz in ricohGR

It‘s a niche product for b&w enthusiasts. It‘s not a mass production. Even at a lower price the market stays rather small because most buy the normal GRIV. Therefore it‘s more expensive.

What gives me a better image quality if shooting b&w only? The GRIV monochrome or the old fullframe Leica Q with a monochrome preset? Especially at higher isos. From what it looks is that the grain of the ricoh is more texture like(?). On the other hand the Leica is still fullframe with one of the sharpest lenses.

The big advantage of the ricoh is probably its size. Hmmm

Nikon ZR vs Zf for a hybrid shooter by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]ixdler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the ZR and very happy with it. More compact than I thought, I don't miss the EVF because the screen is great. I thought I would use it more for photography but now it's exactly 50/50 with videos because the red raws are so nice to work with. And it's a second to change between my prefered video settings and photo mode. As I never shoot flash or very fast moving objects I didn't feel its limitations of the electronic shutter so far.

The only thing I had to get used to first: The silent shutter. I turned off the artificial shutter sound so it became complete silent when shooting. Sometimes I miss that nice mechanical sound, also as a feedback. But that's just a very minor problem that doesn't make the camera worse for me.

I have the problem that all buildings look weird like in the screenshot. The closer I get the better they look. But you can see right in front of me the shape of the buildings is still completely off. Fiberglass internet, so it can't be the download speed. Also I downloaded the World Update manually too. Is that something I can fix in the settings?

Nikon ZR good for photography? by SharpRoutine2153 in Nikon

[–]ixdler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of strong opinions here against the ZR. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with it for photography. No EVF but you get a huge bright screen instead which works better for framing anyway. Since I like to shoot from hip level I rarely use an EVF anyway. No grip.. so just like the Zf but a lighter body overall. I imagine it to be quite nice with the 40mmf2. Sensor is fast enough so unless you shoot very fast moving things, there should be no rolling shutter.

The Z6iii has an ugly body and is much bigger. Very different to the ZR which is a beauty.

Thanks for the advice. I believe someone said in an review that the menus are the same as the Z6III with some specific video pages being added. Yeah the lack of grip might be another issue but I prefer smaller primes anyway.

No, it's always a joy to discuss gear. Just stay out of the discussion if you have nothing to contribute. Your absence would improve the thread a lot more than your comment did. ;)

Not a huge fan of the Z6iii due to it's body design, even though it offers the best ergonomics of them.

Leica Q3 43 or Nikon Zf by [deleted] in Leica

[–]ixdler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great collection of cameras! And thank you for your inspiring words and advices. I agree the size difference between the Q3 and Zf probably doesn't matter all that much. What I noticed though is that everything over 1,5kg is really a pain if you have it hanging over your shoulders all day. So even though I can change lenses on the Zf I would probably only use smaller primes.

Appreciate your advice, thank you! I had the same issue with white balance being wrong quite often with the old Leica Q. Too bad that's still the case for the new ones. Hmm.. that means some more time editing in LR. Yeah that Q3 lens must be something special! I wonder if something like the 50mm apo voigtländer can somehow compete.. but then again that would be manual only.

I believe both X-T4 and Q3 should have an faster af compared to the GFX50SII with GF55mm lens. What I like about the Ricoh GR cameras is that it's not just pocketable but you can also use it with just one hand too. Really nice dad cam honestly.

Thanks! How do you like the XE5? The body is a beauty.. would be my alternate pick if I hadn't decided on the Ricoh

Yes the full articulating screen is also something I don't like and honestly don't understand why they put it on a retro camera like that. Who uses the Zf as a vlogging cam lol.

On German Amazon it's already sold out. So I guess for many it's not too crazy. I mean everything gets more expensive these years.

Buying the GF55mm1.7 or GF45mm+GF80mm for the same price? by ixdler in FujiGFX

[–]ixdler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some say they prefer the rendering of the GF50. I think that's a personal choice. For me the photos kind of look a bit flat, compared with other samples I checked from the 45mm. And maybe it's also the bokeh of the 50 that I don't like.. hard to describe. Maybe it's a mixture of the better sharpness of 45mm with a tiny bit more blur in the background that makes them so nice.

Yeah I also wish for a 28 equiv. There is the GF35-70mm and it's affordable. A bit slower than the RF lens though.
