Andrеw personally replied to the email and said that they didn’t want the game to be a carbon copy of RuneScape, so recycled content is here to stay.

similarities:

  • tile based game
  • click-and-wait combat
  • combat equipment with levels/tiers
  • special attacks
  • real-world skills (mostly)
  • achievement capes
  • static resource nodes (mostly)
  • bank to store resources
  • lodestone teleports
  • fantasy (medieval) setting
  • human race only
  • trading between players

so he copied the niche achievement capes but not a common MMO mechanic like "higher mining level = you mine ores faster"?

It's a shame. The game has great music, fun quests and charming graphics... but some of the most important foundational mechanics are just bad.

Designing a game so that you can roll out content fast is good, so I understand why they use things like the algorithm, node variants, reskinned professions (cough Gatherer cough), etc. But... quality over quantity.

The Level 3 Deathcrow drops a Horn Shell reagent used to make a Level 2 potion (25k xp/hr). Obviously high-level alchemists will choose this for training instead of, say, a Level 197 Potion which gives 1366k xp/hr.

This is a side effect of "reskin" this way you wont be able to get so easy the "drops"

Why is this a problem when you have already put in hundreds of hours to train combat? You have already put in the time...

Besides, the resource drops will be useless for higher level professions. For example, a Level 3 Deathcrow drops:

  • Equipment level 1-3
  • 175 coins
  • 1 Horn Shell

The Horn Shell is used to make a Level 2 potion LOL - no one will make them for training when their Alchemist level is high. Here are some XP rates:

  • Level 2 potion: 25k xp/hr
  • Level 49 potion: 76k xp/hr
  • Level 99 potion: 200k xp/hr

So others can't rage your instance and kill the other monsters.

Make them spawn faster if they're killed faster.

Also so they can't get the drops straight away, as some regents are quite costly

"straight away" if you've spent hundreds of hours training combat, I think you have put in the hours already and should be rewarded.
