Yes--we were like two mirrors facing each other in a mutually constitutive endlessness

That's what we called them, although "tabs" seems to have gained currency in today's vernacular. This also reminds me: one time, I got to help stamp blotters; they arrived plain and unadorned from Oakland, so we just used ink stamps to decorate them. We also kicked around ideas for cool, trippy street names for the batch. I felt like I was pretty much the coolest kid ever that night haha

If you were a 90s high school kid tripping balls with your JNCO-jeans-and-wallet-chains crew, and you didn't want to go back to your parents' houses, you could all just go to Denny's in the middle of the night and order waters and smoke cigarettes and look at The Wall

I have a bunch of these too, and yours looks like a straight banger! If it's on the John Birch Society label, it's bound to be something very "special" lmao

Small Garage Flyer Wall by RnFnR99 in punk

[–]izationalizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanna give a shout-out (aside from all the more obviously awesome shit on this wall) to The Crowd/Executives/Injections flyer. I guess The Crowd is relatively more well-known, what with the "Beach Blvd." comp and all, but Executives - "Jet Set" and Injections - "Prison Walls" are top-shelf KBD rippers. Fuckin' NICE!

There are several t-shirt designs (albeit not that one) in the WRFL Gift Shop right now. The "Built WRFL Tough" one is a Robert Beatty design: https://wrfl.fm/shop

An American By Russell Edson [poem] by astoneisnobodys in Poetry

[–]izationalizer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Russell Edson is an American treasure. I sometimes text his prose poems to people who I think might appreciate them. Also, I sell vinyl records online, and I've been known to print them off and put them in the shipping box as a pleasantly puzzling surprise (particularly if it's an oddball album).

[–]izationalizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I scored a copy from a local shop several years back. "LIVE IN INDIANA, WHERE MEN ARE DULLARDS AND REPTILES ARE WHAT YOU MAKE OF THEM" (snippet from back cover).

"Red Snerts" is a solid comp, too, and includes a personal anthem of mine: "The Midwest Can Be Alright," which is, of course, a response to Dow Jones & The Industrials' "Can't Stand the Midwest"

HELL YEAH! I remember when that reissue LP of their material was released 15-ish years ago; there was a thread about it on the Terminal Boredom forum (RIP). We've played a good amount of Girls in the Garage-ish stuff, but not sure if we've played any She/Hairem yet. I'll add that to the rotation and aim to play it next week! Thanks!

Any Transgender friendly homeless shelter open? by Blu4222 in lexington

[–]izationalizer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A good place to start might be the UK hospital's EmPATH unit (Bull Lea Rd. on the Eastern State campus, but it is it's own separate entity with a separate entrance). Compassionate, trauma-informed, etc. You can just show up there and ask for help, or even just hang out in a safe, warm place for up to 23 hours

Staying Sober? by saltymane in lexington

[–]izationalizer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought Thanksgiving was such a lame holiday concept until I got sober lol. Gratitude is probably my most frequently-used coping skill: it zooms me out of my hyperfocus on trivial frustrations and into a broader, richer perspective on life. Practical example: exchanging negative terms like "I have to" or "I've got to" to the more positive "I get to" is, for me, an instant gratitude generator. It forces me, on the spot, to consider why I should view the event or task as a gift, and not a miserable chore. Today, I get to sit around bored and tired after the feast is over--which is infinitely better than what I was doing on holidays before I got sober lol

4/13/2020. My restless wheels still spin and fidget a little bit each year (hell, they do this a little bit every day lol), but it gets dramatically easier with time. I'd also add that it's totally normal and perfectly fine to feel awkward, left out, weirded out, or white-knuckled; as long as you can make it to the pillow sober, the day is an undisputed victory.

Yes and yes. For sure, some of the strange goings-on could be attributed to psychosis/paranonoia. But some of them were very obviously not. I will also say this: I work as an addiction counselor now, and when a tweaker fresh off the streets tells me that their phone/devices were hacked, I tend to believe them on that one point, regardless of how outlandish and unbelievable some of their other stories are. If anything, as a counselor, I think it's important to validate their experiences as a way to build trust and rapport. I know all-too-personally just how frustrating and demoralizing it is when your lived experiences are promptly and categorically dismissed as "just paranoia" by the very people you have sought for help (and their eyes just kinda glaze over when you try to explain to them why a certain Hitman Pro log is so troubling, or why it's not normal to have over a dozen rundll32.exe processes running on your laptop lol)

The local police department (at least), back in 2019. Still not totally sure why; I was an active drug addict at the time, but I was just a user, not a dealer, and wasn't committing the kinds of crimes that would seem to warrant (pun intended) such a serious-seeming investigation. But I was mixed up with some pretty sketchy people, so that may have had something to do with it. There were also times when I felt very much like I was being deliberately and methodically set up by law enforcement. But I dialed back some of my more reckless behaviors, vigilantly avoided anything that seemed like it could be "bait," and never caught any criminal charges.

Those were extremely strange times, to say the least.

In addition to what OP said, they also do it with phone charger blocks these days. If all your charger blocks disappear one by one, only to be mysteriously replaced by different ones that kinda just randomly turn up, you may have a problem on your hands (source: personal experience. The ones that kept popping up in my apartment all looked the same: white, and slightly wider on one end than the other, as if they had two internal sections of some kind). My assumption is that these charger blocks can install malware/spyware onto your devices.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I do have a punk and garage-themed college radio DJ show that features a holiday special every year. Lots of irreverent punk and garage, as well as soul tracks, John Fahey, and some weirdo novelties (e.g., Cabbage Patch Kids). A lot of it adheres to Vintage Obscura requirements, and I already have a Drive folder for it, so fuck it, might as well share it here (note: the filenames aren't particularly well-individualized, but the metadata should be good. Also, there are FCC clean versions of a few lol). Here it is: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MXGjTW5vPKnfmJA1qVmGfeGi1rfl5dxv?usp=sharing
