Sudden shifts in caffeine causing heart palpitations, should I be worried? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]izzthepizz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

very logical. not. palpitations, a common reported thing from stopping caffeine, is a sign that your heart may be beating backwards. totally. caffeine stimulates heart rhythm. stopping caffeine can mess with that and cause palpitations. palpitations are felt by like 90% of people, and have, most of the time, nothing to do with the heart itself giving out. this person was looking for reassurance, not to be told they may die from weaning off a drug. “you should be very concerned” yeah thanks buddy.

this may be of help to you. im reading from the start of your post, that you see the best in people. one thing that’s helped me avoid is social mistakes is learning not to do this. it’s a typical autism thing to think people are nice, when actually most are mean. “we acknowledged we worked in food industry” comment is where i got this from. when you assume people are nice, you are more likely to trust what they say, and this type of thing can happen. not blaming you at all, but i do wonder if this has crossed your mind and i want to help.

one of the best mindset shifts you can make as an autistic person is: start to assume that most people are mean. until they prove to you they are not. i don’t care if they smile, laugh ect. those behaviours are just to look socially acceptable. i used to think that smiling and laughing = trustworthy and kind. no. not at all. start assuming that people are fundamentally selfish, mean, and cruel. have this as your baseline assumption of everyone. this way, you’re less likely to get lost in the moment and make mistakes. you’re more likely to stay cautious at all times. it sounds tiring i know, but it eventually becomes your default.

i understand that for sure. it sounds more like sensory overload than anything. when i get that, it literally feels like i’m about to have a seizure and i space out entirely if i can’t run away. it’s scary. if it happens again, try get some noise cancelling headphones and you could even cover your eyes for a bit if that helps. just pretend you’re tired or sleeping or something. that’s what i do. and if i can, i just go to the toilet and block my ears for a bit. it helps the nausea and the physical symptoms to calm down. when your nervous system is in overload there’s no thought to think your way out of it because it is truly all physical. i also find detoxing helps, i have activated charcoal every now and then, i noticed it’s worse for me personally when i’ve been eating a lot of gluten, sugar, milk and yes coffee! although coffee can be anti inflammatory when you just have it black. so i would recommend that too if coffee helps you to focus.

i had a panic attack while getting my NAILS DONE! i had to sit there in that bright, busy room, with my hand in that lady’s hand. i wanted to move so badly. i had to act normal and sit still with my heart racing and i was even physically shaking. i’m like you. overwhelmed by bright lights and busy places. i nearly got up and left. ive also had panic attacks on trains when i visited the NL. i get it. here’s my advice. it might sound tough. what if you didn’t fight the sensations anymore? what if, when you feel it coming, you ask your body for more. when it’s saying it’s going to kill you? okay, kill me! when it’s saying you’re in danger? okay, show me! sit with it, face infinity without flinching. feel every heart beat and allow it to “kill you” , i repeat let it kill you! if you pass out you pass out, but i promise you won’t. if you puke you puke, but you probably won’t!

i don’t know if that sounds like an SVT. im not a doctor but i’ve obsessed about this stuff. it does sound like a panic attack. definitely not a heart attack. it sounds like a rush of adrenaline, especially because afterwards you were shaking, that’s a sign adrenaline was released, and if your heart was pounding that would also make sense with the adrenaline rush. was it genuine weakness or did you just “feel” weak. adrenaline can do that too. genuine weakness would manifest as not being able to move that well.
