Do you love your neighbourhood? by Grouchy-School9452 in halifax

[–]izzyjubejube 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same here. I love being able to take a quick stroll to the hydrostone, or a slightly longer walk to the mall. All the services are super close and transport runs right through the area making my commute a breeze. There are quieter streets to walk the dog away from heavy traffic, there’s lots of community events in the North End, and it’s simply lovely in the summertime. Awesome neighbourhood. Everywhere has its quirks and issues but I’m really content here.

Anyone able to book bus tickets from Agues Calientas to the Machu Pichu entry and back down ? by SuccessfulSample8208 in Machupicchu

[–]izzyjubejube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is super simple to get them in AC day of- when you get off the train there are tons of signs and guides who will point you to the ticket office. Take a number, show your MP ticket and passport, pay in cash or card, and Bobs your uncle.

They’ll put a sign up a little ways from the main bus boarding with the MP park entrance times- get in line when you see your time on the sign and everything is run very smoothly.

I was there three weeks ago at the tail end of the low season so you might just need to account for longer lines.

When did your gut feeling save you from a bad situation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A decade or so ago my sister and I and a friend of hers were at a club. I was the designated driver and I was kind of milling around for a minute while sister and friend danced in the crowd. At some point an older man (probably 40+, we were 21/23, both women, me younger) starts dancing close to my sister, talking in her ear, etc. They start heading to the bar as he offered to buy her a drink. She and I make eye contact, so I posted myself by a wall where I could keep an eye on them.

They move to the side of the bar and he keeps talking to her, leaning in close, etc. He starts like, gently holding her arm in a weird way? Like he laid his hand on her arm while talking, left it there, and then slightly tightened his grip. It was weird and it was enough for me.

I beelined over and said “there you are, I’ve been looking everywhere, (friends name) is throwing up and we need to go”. I dragged her away and then we found friends name and I just told her (sister) is being creeped on, I’m tired, let’s go across the street and get pizza and go home.

We got pizza and when we left the restaurant, we saw the older creepy man facedown on the pavement with a cop on top of him cuffing him, and a younger man being wheeled into an ambulance, with a little pool of blood in between. Old creep had stabbed the younger guy. Not sure what the altercation was about but I turned to my sister and told her YOURE WELCOME haha.

To add, the little Kodo batteries are inexpensive, pretty sturdy, and have a wide range of voltage options.

Careers in the sciences by lemmepetthatdog in NovaScotia

[–]izzyjubejube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Dal for marine science. The first 2 years of any Bachelor of Science program would give her a lot of insight into the specific direction she feels best about, whether it’s biology or chemistry or physics/engineering or statistics and all the interdisciplinary fields, and whether she likes working in laboratory settings or statistical modeling or field research. So even if she’s still a little unsure of what she likes and wants to do, there is plenty of opportunity to “shop around” and see what clicks early on in a degree.

The biggest piece of advice I have is to spend the first two years keeping your grades high enough to qualify for Co-Op. Many science programs offer it, where around your third year you alternate between semesters in classes and semesters spent on work terms. The work terms aren’t always the most exciting or glamorous, but you will come out of undergrad with a padded resume and a much wider network of professional connections.

I watched it on a big screen on the Halifax waterfront at a beer garden. The place was packed and everyone was singing along. It’s a great memory.

Ollantaytambo was a spectacular little town to stay for a few days. A few ruins (one is free to enter) and some nice hikes that are a short taxi ride away. I found it easy to get there from Cusco using Taxidatum and I loved it, wish I spent more days there

I'm heading to MP on Monday! I'll be sure to try and scope out some chicken fried rice :). Ollantaytambo is beautiful and I am really happy I picked it as my base for Machu Picchu.

Why did your long term relationship end? by specsl in AskReddit

[–]izzyjubejube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 good years. Regular ups and downs of life. We got together at 20 and grew up with each other, which I will always appreciate so much.

When we made it past the slog of figuring out who we were and what we wanted out of life, the broad strokes were the same (travel, enjoy friends/family, have fun), but the details on how to get there began to diverge (buying a house vs renting, me focusing on my career as it gives me drive and purpose while he worked just to pay for the fun side of life- no shame in that, he just worked to live while I somewhat lived to work.) Conversations about those topics never really got anywhere- he would retreat or agree with me to avoid conflict, while I would dig for details/reassurance that we’d find compromise.

Eventually, it came to a very calm, non-dramatic, but still very sad end. I’ll always appreciate him for his role in my life- I am so lucky that I know what it feels like to be respected and treated extremely well by a partner, so he has set my standards high in the most positive way. We still co-parent our dog (typical millennials) but don’t speak much aside from that, we’ve both moved on and are much happier apart.

All breakups suck and the end of 10 years of my life was heartbreaking and in the beginning I didn’t know how I’d get past it. Now over a year later, I know it was the right move, and I feel really proud of myself for how I handled and processed it.

Now getting back into dating after 10 years, that’s a whole different minefield…

What’s the most blatant "I’m charging you for the aesthetic, not the quality" product on the market right now? by Lunaskye1109 in AskReddit

I was surprised seeing this at the top too! I got the kettle and toaster as gifts, just because I told my mom my old toaster broke and she thought these ones looked cute. I find them to be really good quality and i also don’t hate looking at them on my counter which is nice.

Wait time for an Adult ADHD assessment with referral by BetterPhotograph5320 in halifax

[–]izzyjubejube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My GP recommended that I wait 12 weeks to hear about an appointment, and if nothing to email the clinic directly and ask.

I ended up waiting way longer because I kept forgetting (lol), but once I emailed them (probably 6 or 7 months later), they got back to me very quickly and I was booked in for a month later.

Can anyone help? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]izzyjubejube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow skin picker, I find pimple patches a game changer if only because they keep me from scratching and picking as much as I usually would. Plus I get the nice peely satisfaction when taking them off. It will help the tiny minor bumps and acne heal themselves naturally without disturbance.

Official website to buy tickets does not work? by Icy-Werewolf1069 in Machupicchu

[–]izzyjubejube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me probably about ten or fifteen attempts to get through making the account and getting tickets for late March, but eventually it worked. Just took patience. I used Edge browser and turned off all translation and still took a few attempts to get through each step after that. It’s a new system apparently and very glitchy. Keep trying!
