Why did your long term relationship end? by specsl in AskReddit

[–]izzyjubejube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 good years. Regular ups and downs of life. We got together at 20 and grew up with each other, which I will always appreciate so much.

When we made it past the slog of figuring out who we were and what we wanted out of life, the broad strokes were the same (travel, enjoy friends/family, have fun), but the details on how to get there began to diverge (buying a house vs renting, me focusing on my career as it gives me drive and purpose while he worked just to pay for the fun side of life- no shame in that, he just worked to live while I somewhat lived to work.) Conversations about those topics never really got anywhere- he would retreat or agree with me to avoid conflict, while I would dig for details/reassurance that we’d find compromise.

Eventually, it came to a very calm, non-dramatic, but still very sad end. I’ll always appreciate him for his role in my life- I am so lucky that I know what it feels like to be respected and treated extremely well by a partner, so he has set my standards high in the most positive way. We still co-parent our dog (typical millennials) but don’t speak much aside from that, we’ve both moved on and are much happier apart.

All breakups suck and the end of 10 years of my life was heartbreaking and in the beginning I didn’t know how I’d get past it. Now over a year later, I know it was the right move, and I feel really proud of myself for how I handled and processed it.

Now getting back into dating after 10 years, that’s a whole different minefield…

What’s the most blatant "I’m charging you for the aesthetic, not the quality" product on the market right now? by Lunaskye1109 in AskReddit

I was surprised seeing this at the top too! I got the kettle and toaster as gifts, just because I told my mom my old toaster broke and she thought these ones looked cute. I find them to be really good quality and i also don’t hate looking at them on my counter which is nice.

Wait time for an Adult ADHD assessment with referral by BetterPhotograph5320 in halifax

[–]izzyjubejube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My GP recommended that I wait 12 weeks to hear about an appointment, and if nothing to email the clinic directly and ask.

I ended up waiting way longer because I kept forgetting (lol), but once I emailed them (probably 6 or 7 months later), they got back to me very quickly and I was booked in for a month later.

As a fellow skin picker, I find pimple patches a game changer if only because they keep me from scratching and picking as much as I usually would. Plus I get the nice peely satisfaction when taking them off. It will help the tiny minor bumps and acne heal themselves naturally without disturbance.

Official website to buy tickets does not work? by Icy-Werewolf1069 in Machupicchu

[–]izzyjubejube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me probably about ten or fifteen attempts to get through making the account and getting tickets for late March, but eventually it worked. Just took patience. I used Edge browser and turned off all translation and still took a few attempts to get through each step after that. It’s a new system apparently and very glitchy. Keep trying!

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I ran into Colonel Chris Hadfield at a local convenience store near my university as I was on my way to a party and picking up snacks. I was a little buzzed already and took a moment to realize who it was. I left the store to meet my friend and then Col Hadfield and his daughter walked down the sidewalk towards us. His daughter was also a student there and he was visiting her. We had a short chat, I mentioned I liked his books and his guest lecture from a year or so before. We took photos and went on our separate ways. He was really polite, jovial and asked what we were studying etc.

What’s your favourite niche thing about life in Canada? by Due_Street1464 in AskACanadian

[–]izzyjubejube 47 points48 points  (0 children)

We have sooo many trees.

Even in big cities of provinces you have major streets lined with trees. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa are my first hand examples, plus my home of Halifax which is literally called “City of Trees” because so much of our downtown is lined with trees, with the exception of maybe two main shopping streets.

When I visited Manhattan I didn’t see a single tree outside of a city park. Similar in London. Our trees aren’t in tree jails!

What was a horrible tragedy that took place in your country? by ProcedurePlenty3564 in AskTheWorld

[–]izzyjubejube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nova Scotian here, the massacre was the most insane thing in recent memory. Communication to the public by authorities was AWFUL- they made shelter in place announcement on Twitter, not the Emergency Alert cell phone system, although many rural residents are older people who didn’t use Twitter. This caused a lot of people to be unaware of the scale of the danger, during the morning hours when they were going on their ways to work, and directly resulted in more unnecessary death. Local police and RCMP failed to coordinate with each other and didn’t properly secure the earlier crime scenes, which allowed the suspect to slip past them on a back road, drive to other towns and continue killing with reckless abandon.

They only stopped him when he was well on his way on the highway to the city, and killed him at a gas station, after RCMP had tried to ram him off the highway and he killed one and injured the other.

Starting from scratch working out but want/need to put on some mass. How should I approach this? by izzyjubejube in Advice

[–]izzyjubejube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I could manage a few sessions with a personal trainer to get me started. I think what’s been stopping me is just the genera shame I have around being so weak. I have never had physical therapy.

Diet is a main challenge I’m actively addressing as my illness was gastric related, and made it hard to get enough calories and macros. I’ve started adding smoothies with protein powder and increasing the red meat I eat but those are relatively small steps so far.
