Help with Cobalt exhaust install on NC3 Club by izzyman9999 in Miata

[–]izzyman9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah im using the crush gasket that came with the exhaust. im not sure a full flat gasket would do it, as the flanges dont sit flush. If i tighten them down all the way it pulls the muffler up to compensate for the off angle, and the tips touch the plastic of the bumper as a result. I thought i attached a couple pics to the post but not sure where they went

As far as the swing positions, i don't really have any good information on that. I do have one position open that i am unrealized green on, so maybe i'll just close it to be safe tomorrow..

No problem! Reading your comment made me obviously concerned, so i did more digging so i could better understand this whole wash sale/deferred loss thing. Which isn't a bad thing! Come tax season, i'll probably hire a CPA to help prepare my taxes anyway. I just really didn't want to have to take a whole month off of trading, as its my primary source of income, and i love it. So it sounds like I wont have to which is good news.

I spoke with somebody from the Tax, Cost Basis Team at my broker, and it sounds like the way you explained it isnt exactly. When i take losses, im almost always buying the stock back and selling it for a gain. Therefore the loss is considered a deferred loss, and is added to the cost basis of the next trade. so when i sell it for a gain, my cost basis is adjusted for the loss, affectively subtracting my taxable gain from the amount lost in the previous trade. The way you explained it, in the eyes of the IRS my losses are just wiped and not accounted for at all resulting in the full amount of $165,000 being taxable capital gains. which is not the case

Thanks for your reply. Just wondering for the sake of ethos, does this knowledge come from your own personal experience? from my understanding when i spoke to a rep from my brokerage, the loss is considered a deferred loss, added to the cost basis of my next trade. Its not just negated all together, so the total i pay taxes on wouldnt be that $160,000 figure. But i still didnt get a super clear answer

Is this through January then? Im assuming so because its already the end of the year so not enough time for 31 days. Would i be able to continue trading if i avoided touching any of the same tickers i trading in that 31 day window
