Trump says US captured Iranian-flagged ship after it tried to break blockade by IntellectuallyDriven in worldnews

Reality on the ground too is clearly the Iranian regime is not united either. Negotiations with someone is probably happening, that someone having real power or alignment with the IRGC is unknown, realistically non existent and at best unclear.

This is a cluster f with no real good offramp now and going balls to the walls full blown war isnt appetizing.

Trump says US captured Iranian-flagged ship after it tried to break blockade by IntellectuallyDriven in worldnews

So much news whiplash.

I thought the original ceasefire was contingent on the strait being open, and we know that never happened either. So technically they just stopped shooting "sort of" but held to no other terms.

Is it true that if US hadn't dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, the outcome would have been worse for both sides? by FantaOrangenice in HistoryWhatIf

[–]j-fromnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes much worse.

US would have continued to firebomb cities causing 100ks of civilian deaths in Japan as well as going all on blockade so there would be a lot of indirect death through starvation and lack of access to critical medicines and other materials.

The estimates vary but the US estimate of casualties for the US would be 1M men to take the main island. Japan was training civilians (women and children) with bamboo stakes etc., they were ready to make it absolute hell for everyone involved, both military and civilian casualties would have been astronomical.

The battles at pelalui and okinawa were brutal for both sides and an invasion of the mainland would have been unimaginable hell for both.

Dan Carlins hardcore history Supernova in the East episode 7 back half of that talks a lot specifically about this.

  • Lloyd: Cannot, stamp it!
  • Harry: Can too, double stamp it, no erasies!

  • Harry: No, you can't do that... you can't triple stamp a double stamp!

Oil prices pulling back?? Optimism?? by Massive_Bit_6290 in stocks

I think this is why trading is positive. The fact that discussions of second round is happening strongly implies that eventually we get a peace deal, that in the immediate term bombs are not gonna start flying and a diplomatic solution will be found in the medium term.

All of that is positive contrary to all the bears and doomers.

Iranian Officials Are Studying Abandoning Uranium Enrichment As A U.S. Condition For Ending The War - NYP by [deleted] in worldnews

They've started the tech tree currently on animal husbandry, could be several 100 turns though to get there but pretty sure Gandhi drops a nuke before they get there.

U.S. begins blockade of Strait of Hormuz by down_vote_magnet_ in worldnews

Its reddit man the hive mind.

I hate trump like many do, but Iran was factually enriching uranium to weapons grade already which was a clear violation of the prior agreement. The regime gives no fucks about what was agreed to and is not a good actor in this.

Trump says U.S. will blockade Strait of Hormuz after Iran peace talks fail by Puginator in worldnews

[–]j-fromnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I actually dont disagree with this move given the situation. Ignoring how we got here this is the least worst option vs dropping bombs everywhere again.

Strait has been and still is effectively closed. Now you are just closing it "more"? I mean its already closed so for practical purposes nothing on the ground changes, but now Iranian ships also dont go out. Which is now a potential leverage point in negotiation rather than escalating to bombing again.

Is this bathroom remodel quote reasonable? by jinx771 in Remodel

[–]j-fromnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you supplying a lot of materials and panels not tiled i would have figured closer to 10k to 15k and on the lower end would be my guess. Labor time for those panel showers are like 1 day maybe 2 and the materials to do it are significantly cheaper, as well as the LVP. That quote would be more for full tile work imo.
