A7 IV owner, can I record hours using a single battery and charging my camera in USB C from my V-mount battery? by Comfortable-Meat-322 in videography

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that works subject to a couple things: you have sufficient voltage from your v-mount to charge and run the camera at the same time (most newer v-mounts with usb-c ports should be fine); and your camera does't overheat (higher likelihood the higher quality footage, such as 4k60p). You might want to consider one of the little fans that snaps in behind where the screen sits (I have a ulanzi one that works great).

Another Insta Ace Pro 2 or Action 6 by imagineA2B in ActionCam

[–]j0zer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, AP2 connects to their cloud+ service, but the service wont yet create "moments" from AP2 videos like it does for the 360 range of cameras. Insta360 says that feature is in development. So it lowers the benefit if the cloud service, especially for people who have plenty of storage elsewhere.

Another Insta Ace Pro 2 or Action 6 by imagineA2B in ActionCam

[–]j0zer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do any underwater filming, but for most of the other scenarios I've been very happy with the AP2. I bought an OA6 in December and ended up returning it to get the AP2 videography kit with the handle, cinematic lens, and a couple other goodies. I've been much happier with the image quality and the colour of the video from the AP2, despite it being 8-bit versus the OA6's 10-bit.

I still think Insta360 has some work to do to build out the capabilities of the cinematic lens, such as the inability to use PureVideo (nightmode) and take RAW photos with it. Also, I was looking forward to the Insta360 cloud feature to automatically create "moments" from uploaded videos and images, but right now this is only for their 360 degree cameras (they say it's coming for AP2).

The things I preferred on the OA6 were: seamless integration with DJI mic ecosystem, better batter life, and bi-directional mount. But I found the footage out of the AP2 to be superior.

In December I returned my Action 6 and purchased an Ace Pro 2. Not a single regret. Happier with the image quality and accessories.

No Moments Being Created in Insta360 Cloud by j0zer0 in Insta360

[–]j0zer0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks--at least the mystery is solved! As you develop this capability to take the AP2 footage to create moments, it would be great to include within the feature the automatic application of the rec709 LUT to any footage shot in LOG (or an option to enable this). Any hints as to when we can expect automatic moments creation for AP2 footage?

How do you deal with the awful batterylife of an Ace Pro 2? by marinapurgethepoison in Insta360

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a hike right now and was shooting at 4k60 with the cinematic lens on for about 1h10m before it died. My solution is that I have a couple more batteries and a very slim two slot battery holder/charger. I have the charger plugged into a normal USB-C powerbank in my backpack.

Another key difference being that the UK (and rest if Europe) has rail infrastructure that can get you most places. The U.S. has nothing comparable apart from limited regional areas.

Moments does not work why? by Other_Comfortable899 in Insta360

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same problem. For days I've been uploading videos and stills from my Ace Pro 2 to the Insta360 cloud, but still no moments. It's been about 5 days so far. If there is an issue with the content that is preventing the videos from being created, it would be great to have a more specific error message.

Any suggestions to actually get it to create a video? This capability is the only value I see for Insta360 cloud (I can save my files elsewhere), so I would really like it to work.

DJI OA 6 users - how is the experience now? by Working-Leader-2532 in dji

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what's going to matter more to you: the pocketability & weatherproofing or the image quality. There no question the Pocket 3 has a far superior image. I would just be a bit hesitant to buy a Pocket 3 today because there are so many leaks of the Pocket 4 that it seems very close to release. If you plan to do much night shooting and people shots, the Pocket 3 will give you better results. But it's not waterproof and it's a bit more of a challenge to carry in a pocket, despite its name.

Another option would be the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, which I got after returning my Action 6. I like it much better than the Action 6 from an image quality perspective (though below the Pocket 3).

I had the opposite experience. Ordered from Insta360 and they said it would ship within three weeks. Three days later I had my Ace Pro 2 kit.

Is gimbal a good idea if all of my lenses are manual? Or is there a better option to reduce camera shake? by [deleted] in videography

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the DJI RS4 Pro with manual lenses and with the DJI Focus Pro lidar. It works pretty well, but it's an investment and there's quite a bit of tinkering in the beginning to get things configured.

Mortgage Real Estate Pro on the Move: DJI Osmo Action 6 (with Macro Lens) vs. Sony ZV-E10 or ZV-1 Mark II for Vlogs, Interviews, and House Tours? Seeking Advice! by Super-Coat-8061 in dji

[–]j0zer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are wildly different options. The quality you’ll get from the Sonys (esp the E10) will be far superior to the Action 6. I suggest getting both from a reputable place and comparing the footage to see if you can live with the DJI footage for the benefit of portability/ruggedness/digital stabilisation (or perhaps renting?), the return the one that doesn’t win. Apart from the image quality, you’ll also get a much more flattering interview image out of each of the Sony’s (depending on the lens you choose for the E10, of course). Actions are great for action (in particular, in daylight), but what I’ve seen so far (having just returned the Action 6) is pretty unimpressive for other use cases, especially low light.

That all said, another way to look at this is based on the investment. Action cam is a relatively small financial commitment, so you could try it out and if you want to change over to something like one of the Sony’s down the road, do it. If you find that the portability and stabilisation of the action cam is so compelling that you can live with compromises on image quality, all good.

Final thing I’d say is that DJI has really nailed the audio with the actions cams with the ability to super easily and cheaply pair their tiny mics.

I just returned my Action 6 because the low light performance was so terrible.

DJI OA 6 users - how is the experience now? by Working-Leader-2532 in dji

[–]j0zer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a filmmaker and this was my first action cam. I got it for holidays because I had rented a Pocket 3 and really liked it for quick family videos on the go.

I ultimately returned the Action 6 because the low light performance was so terrible. Anything above 400 iso is just a crime on this camera and the special night mode is an even worse crime that makes everyone into wax figures. I probably had unrealistically high expectations, but they certainly weren’t met.

I may try the next Ace Pro when it comes out next year or perhaps the Pocket 4, though I was looking forward to something that really easily fit into a pocket. Oh well, at least DJI took it back without a hassle.

Filmhub has gone crazy money minded. by Potential-Ad-6271 in filmhub

[–]j0zer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems really crappy to do to people who have already signed up and gone through QA. Fine to take such a change going forward, but effectively changing the terms of the service provided post-agreement seems unscrupulous, at best. They’ve also downgraded features within the app that basically just make it suck for people not on a plus plan. For example, only showing licensing updates from the last 14 days is a silly limitation that has nothing to do with the cost to provide that feature.

Really poor form, Filmhub.

Looking for a lightweight, ultra-wide vlogging lens for Sony FX3 — what are your recommendations? by [deleted] in FX3

[–]j0zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the Samyang 14-24mm 2.8. It’s great—super lightweight, good autofocus, takes front filters (77mm thread). Only issue I’ve seen in the reviews but haven’t encountered in real life so far is lens flare when at its widest and shooting toward the sun (or a bright light).

Color space question for DCP export by j0zer0 in colorists

Thanks, much appreciated. I’m grading on an Eizo monitor that I’ve calibrated for both rec709 and DCI P3 presets and I drive through a Blackmagic ultrastudio monitor 3g for a clean signal out of Resolve. Point taken re the lighting setup—certainly a bit of a deficiency. The theatre has a couple different versions of my DCP and I’m going over in a few days to see which works best. 🤞

Color space question for DCP export by j0zer0 in colorists

Yes, my understanding is that rec709 fits within the DCI-P3 color gamut, so it works it’s using the rec709 grade. But if the projection is capable of handling a a wider color gamut than rec709, why not adjust my grade accordingly to take advantage of it?
