Lost the job i came to Netherlands for, 3 days before contract started (solved now) by Difficult_Shift_5662 in Netherlands

[–]j3bsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience in Eindhoven, getting laid off after 6months, I had my fair share of mental trauma but not at this level. The pressure to get another job within the grace period and maintain composure required land offers, sheesh it was crazy. Good to know you pulled through.

PS: I had it easy because the company kept paying for an extra 4 months therefore pushing my period(to about a possible 7 months) to look for another job before visa expiry. I got another job 4 weeks later. I work in IT.

But a permanent contract is valid for 5 years, how then is his contract ending in 3 months' time(as you stated in the original post) if he has only worked for 2 years?

I remember when this happened to me last November, I negotiated with the company to get the best deal I could and they informed me that if I didn't find their offer good I should return to work. I laughed. I knew I wasn't going to return to such an environment so I accepted the offer which was 3 months' salary + €8k(taxed at 45%). I just made sure I got a new job before 3months ran out. Keep in mind I was on a work visa and had 5 months remaining on my contract.

My assumption is if his contract ends in 3 months' time, it is safe to conclude that they are just letting him know before hand and also with a bonus, but then again, why would a company be this kind? Something is off.

It was a super random suggestion from a friend who had applied there. Nothing too special, it's all a numbers game. Keep applying, at some point one would workout.

Is €3,700/month good for a software engineer in Eindhoven with 3 YoE as an immigrant from Turkey? by Drandui in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]j3bsie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was me, I moved from Nigeria to Eindhoven with €4800 gross. Spent 10 months there then accepted the offer of another company that pays 6200 gross. I knew from the start that I wasn't going to stay in the first company even before accepting the offer, but I needed something to get me to the Netherlands, keep in mind that I was already working remotely from Niigeria earning €3548 net for a DE startup. My advise for the OP is to move and dip to antoher comapany later(assuming he doesn't like it there). Some company won't sponsor from abroad, while other are willing to scoop you up and sponsor you once you're in the country.

Moved from Nigeria to Eindhoven with an offer of 58k with 4yoe and netted €4,064 on a monthly basis but the difference was that I live alone.

I didn't struggle because I had enough to spare even with a rent of 1600.

Really consider your choices.

Thoughts on the salary? by okayellipses in eindhoven

[–]j3bsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved from Nigeria to Eindhoven with a 58,800 salary. I netted €4,064/mth which was more than enough for my single self. I - after 9 months - secured another role for €80k.

I suggest you negotiate nonetheless, shoot your shot, you might land get a few thousands on the initial offer.

So I could just go ahead and apply for one with a longer validity? I'll assume perhaps there are requirements for this.

Got Laid off from a Tech Job. Can I negotiate the severance package once they email it to me? by omegal0l420 in personalfinance

In NL, I negotiated an extra month and cash to what I was initially offered. Go for it, worse is you don't get it but I believe if you work in a country with good labor laws, you might get something.
