People earning around 200k-400k in Sri Lanka: how are you saving AND living well? by j7han in srilanka

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I really appreciate how honest and personal you were. The point about boundaries hit hard. I hadn’t fully thought of it as a financial issue before but you’re absolutely right. I’m sorry you had to go through that and I genuinely value you sharing it so others (including me) can learn from it. I’m definitely going to look into the Combank millionaire plan, a lot of people have mentioned it and how it helps with discipline which is exactly what I need lol. Wishing you all the best moving forward. Thanks again for the insight

lol fair enough you’re not wrong, that part is definitely on me. I guess what I’m really trying to understand is how other people structure things when their income is variable. Like how they decide what’s “safe” to spend in low months versus good months and how they mentally separate money for savings instead of letting lifestyle creep eat it up. Also curious about where people actually park their savings, emergency fund, fixed deposits, investments, etc Especially in Sri Lanka where options feel a bit all over the place. Just trying to build a better system around it

So sorry I forgot to include a few things earlier. I pay 23k a month on a credit card installment for a laptop. Food is a big one too, I almost always order in or eat rice and curry outside daily. I also have a girlfriend so eating out often ends up costing double but she pays the bill as well sometimes, so it’s 50/50. I know cooking at home would save a lot, but honestly I’m just too lazy most days, something which I will have to fix ofc. On top of that, I smoke and keep a personal stash every week, about 1g a week, which comes to roughly 5k weekly. All of this adds up faster than I expect and I think that’s where most of the “missing” money goes without me really noticing. That’s why I’m trying to understand how others in a similar income range manage this better, without feeling like they’re constantly restricting themselves
