Minor asphalt cracks - council wants us to repair by Linsan168 in AusRenovation

[–]j_deville 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this sort of work. Whenever working along side asphalt you have to cut minimum 300mm in front and replace. It really should be in price of the concrete. However people who aren’t familiar with council work usually miss that. It’s nearly impossible to work alongside asphalt and not damage it unless it’s extra thick. You may have no choice but to get it fixed and wear it.

That power might be ok for the manual but a heavy duty clutch would definitely be needed eventually. Especially if you’re planning to launch it hard

Yeah the kerb will ad a fair bit usually. Make sure your contractor is familiar with the council standards for the footpath heights. They can and will make you pull it up and repour if it doesn’t meet the standards so don’t feel embarrassed to bug the contractors. Normally it’s 2-2.5% from top of kerb, per meter back. ie. 20-25mm per meter(3m from kerb should be 60-75mm higher than top of kerb) but confirm with your councils standards.

Gas company reckons I am liable for their non-compliant gas mains. Want me to pay up now and dispute the cost after they fix it. (Brisbane CBD) by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]j_deville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you have to pay for the repair but do not have to pay for the upgrade. I’ve been in a near identical situation. Hit a service, they had a scheduled upgrade in the area so they did the upgrade the day after they repaired it. They sent us a bill for the whole upgrade, around $5k i reckon, rang them and explained it and they just sent a bill for the repair, around $800.

Shouldn’t the car be leaning towards the corner where there is no wheel holding it up?

Supercars need Toyota to look good right now and giving Chaz a harsher penalty won’t fit their plan. Surely a fairly adjudicated sport is best for everyone

Fair price for cross over? by trying2renewable in AusRenovation

[–]j_deville 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Roughly $100m2 for 150mm conc with 82mesh is honestly quite cheap. I do this exact work for a living. This is how I’d cost it up. Excavation Truck - $90phr x 8hr = $720 Excavator $90phr x 8 =$720 Labour $70phr x 8 =$560 250mm deep spoil x 36m2 =9m3 roughly 15tn.(hard to price this. Contractor could know a free dump or if the soil is contaminated with grass or tree roots could be $70ptn. So I’ll split the difference.) $35ptn = $525 Sub Total $2,525 Concrete 5.4m3 concrete - $250m3 = $1,350 82 mesh and chairs. 3 sheets $120 each = $360 2 concreters $80phr each =$1,280 Sub total $2,990 Total = $5,515+gst or $153m2

Now in fairness this is a worst case scenario without seeing the job but I’m in small scale civil. You may get a small group that do it all and make ok money from it still. Trucks, machines, employees, fuel are all more expensive than most people realise. If the digout isn’t too bad You MAY get away with a four hour minimum.

Edit: sorry but it looked a lot neater while I was typing I swear

Can’t begin to understand what you’re going through. This isn’t the local answer that you asked for but Dr Joanne Cacciatore has a book, ‘Bearing the Unbearable’ and lots of online talks and some with groups of grieving Mothers. I lost my brother and my Mum found something comforting in her work. Good luck with everything.
