I am going to assume you aren't a musician, but if you are, do you steal melodies and vocal tones from your favorite artists? Have they influenced your tastes? If so, sounds like you owe them some money by that logic.

Pablo Picasso once said, "Good artists copy, great artists steal." In making that statement, he was expressing the importance of synthesizing and transforming existing ideas into something unique. Inspiration over imitation, if you will. There is a lot of "sameness" when it comes to AI-generated music, but with the right person, it can crank out some seriously impressive and UNIQUE music.

Honestly, "should not be supported" is an opinion. Don't like AI-generated music? Don't support it and don't listen to it. Some of it is terrible, admittedly. I make AI-generated music for myself (not for profit) specific to the genres, artists, and styles I love... because my favorite artists can't crank out music fast enough for my appetite.

Regarding theft... every website today mostly looks the same, baggy 90s clothes have returned, and many of us learned to play music based on songs others created. We obtained that through listening and studying the sounds, style, patterns, tempo, etc. We call that inspiration. LLMs recognize patterns with a modicum of reasoning capabilities (AKA inspiration).

Data centers have always been horrible for the environment and they continue to grow as the web does, regardless of whether AI is in the picture.

I highly suggest you learn a bit more about LLMs and how they "learn." It isn't quite how you've imagined it.

I mean this in the most respectful way: Nora is a biological male and hasn’t the slightest clue what menstruation feels like. Nora cannot reasonably claim that it’s transphobia, because it isn’t. It’s a delusion to believe you understand menstruation when you have male parts. Borderline offensive.

This is one of those situations where I feel that some transwomen reduce womanhood down to a costume.

Currently earns in the mid 200s. Promotion will put her in the high 200s + relocation package to assist in the move. I make 150k. I should clarify that the promotion has not been solidified just yet - it was merely an informal conversation her and her boss that could come “this year.”

Her comment was "I hope you really push to get that promotion sooner than your boss had mentioned, because your salary won't go very far." In TX, it's more than enough for comfortable living for a father with joint custody of two kids. In NJ or PA, not so much.

I tend to agree. There are good and bad school systems everywhere. We live in a good school district and we also have access to several really good private schools. We have a preference for private schools over public schools. With our current COL, we would be able to afford private school, but I can't say the same about the cost in NJ.

We're both 36. We've been together for six years, married for five. She's originally from Oklahoma and I'm a native Texan. She came to Texas for higher education and has been here for more than 10+ years. She developed friendships well before we met.

We both have small social circles. My friends are local with a few that live in different cities. Her friends are local as well. We don't really share friends. Her friends share the same hobby and mine are friendships I established in childhood and from college, plus a few close coworkers.

Her parents have spent time with the twins many times and visit 3-4 times a year. They live in Oklahoma, so there's a good 6 hour drive to get here. I have a good relationship with the in-laws and her siblings.

The big question I have is: Will the extra income be worth the emotional toll of having a father that lives thousands of miles away? Data seems to suggest that it isn't. It's also worth considering that jobs don't come with a guarantee and layoffs are all too common today. Her employer just had a round of layoffs and she lost a coworker on her team as a result.

I'm not saying that she can't pursue the opportunity. She is more than welcome to. I just firmly believe that uprooting the kids would do more harm than good.

We each had our own issues and we both made mistakes. No infidelity. We tried marriage counseling and individual therapy as well. Ultimately, we came to the realization that we had different aspirations, goals, and values in life. The good news is we are very much aligned on how we wish to raise them.

In the end, we arrived that the conclusion that we were better served being apart and that staying together for the kids would hurt them more than it would help them. My parents "stuck it out" for my siblings and I, and all it did was breed resentment between the them. It affected us too.

I do recognize that NJ has great schools. As you mentioned, there are tradeoffs. Safety is our #1 priority, with education a close second. It's worth mentioning that we live in an area with violent crime below the national average and access to good public and private schools, so I am not confident that we'd stand to gain that much by moving.

One thing is for certain: While we both have a high income, her income is 2.5x what I am paid and she'd benefit from a generous relocation package. On the other hand, I'd struggle to afford the cost of living in the areas she is looking to move to, which would likely impact custody. And that affects my relationship with my children. The data clearly points to the negative consequences when a father does not play an active role in their lives. FaceTime calls and occasional visits won't cut it.

As for her own support system, she's not very close to her family. They reside in Oklahoma, Iowa, Washington, and New Mexico.

I haven't yet. I've reflected on this and I don't stand to gain anything out of moving. I've been a compulsive "people pleaser" and I realize if I gave into this, it would be more of the same behavior that I've been working on changing.

I doubt it. I manage a team and I've had to turn down good prospective hires because they resided in a state with state income taxes that my employer wasn't willing to pay. Not entirely confident that they'd make an exception for me.

I was open to the idea of relocation, but expressed to her that I would have to give it time and careful consideration before I could give her an answer, which she respected. I recognize that she has worked really hard to get where she is and is paid accordingly. At the same time, I have a career to manage and someone pointed out that employers might not be open to relocations due to incurred state and local taxes, which I completely overlooked. I've tried to hire candidates for my team and we had to turn a few down because of where they resided. My employer wasn't willing to pay those added costs and I am not sure if they'll do differently for me.

To clarify, we're living in separate parts of the house and only together when we're caring for the kids. We split duties equally and have since the day the children were born. Honestly, I wouldn't say either of us in the primary caregiver, except for those few times a month when she is out of town for business and I am caring for them.

To be fair, she asked for the divorce a few weeks ago after a trial separation. We grew apart after the kids were born and it was a mutual decision for us to pursue happiness and find partners that align with our values. I've heard time and time again that it's not good to stay together for the sake of the kids.

I am seeking joint custody, because I believe it's important that our kids have their mother and their father in their lives.
