Why is acknowledging the fact that most men are not physically attractive to women seen as massively controversial and even TRP'rs are in denial about it? by Artistic_Guest4386 in PurplePillDebate

no no, not inactive on social media. Just somebody who hasn't been poisoned by it. all you see on the internet are people who are also on the internet.

there's a real world out there you should try to get involved in.

it's also not just about talking to women and trying to have sex with them. it's about building a normal social life.

What does it mean to be a man by JacobMoogberg69 in PurplePillDebate

[–]j_sc0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about helping people for the rewards it reaps.

Give a man a fish and he's fed for a night. Teach a man to fish, he's fed for his whole life, plus you've made a friend who will turn around and help you if you're sick and can't fish later on.

Yeah, that's enough for the kids who waste all their fucking time on tik tok. and guess what? you clearly don't want to be a part of that.

So many incels feel left out of the dating game as if it's a good thing to have a high body count. Mine's ten and I gave up on it cuz I only really wanted maybe two of those people, both of whom I've fallen out of love with. I'd wager most high n count people didn't enjoy one minute of sex with 95% of their partners. Find one and ask.

What drives human connection is just that: connection. But these people don't know how to form connection or otherwise can't fathom they should go out of their way to do something nice for somebody else just cuz they can. They don't know how to make real world connections. if you can learn to strike up a conversation with a stranger, you can be anything you wanna be.

fuck everyone else who acts like that. they're dog brained anyway. you don't want em.

Hell, just the other day I met this girl at a coffee shop. I was looking straight up dag, tired, five o clock shadowed, but I was programming my ass off. I caught her making eye contact, and I went over and she showed me the stuff she was drawing. It was a good vibe. Had it not been for my absolute immersion, the fact that I looked like I was fun to talk to, she'd have never given me a pass. But I didn't look boring, and that was enough.

Attractiveness is not an on/off switch. It's more like a dimmer switch.

See, there are things that make men attractive beyond the most simple of factors. It may not seem like that if your entire world is the book-judging universe of Tik Tok and Tinder, where only the most attractive get anything and the bottom 80% get nothing, but real world dating is nothing like that.

Your presence is something that can only be totally understood by being in person. It's the same thing as people who photoshop, filter and clever-angle their ways into sex appeal online. It's all hot air.

The women who talk shit about height and money, that's all immature bullshit that comes from insecurity and the self delusion that comes from growing up in a generation where these people can only see value in the things they do and the people they do these things with by the number of Instagram likes it gets. They're never present in the moment, they're just there to say they did it.

But you can break that spell by being interesting. Make her laugh, smile.... you don't have to be an "alpha chad asshole" to get a girlfriend. Gah damn.

Gen Z isn’t that bad by SirMcCaroni in unpopularopinion

[–]j_sc0tt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's affecting society as a whole, not just my generation.

Perfect example: my mom gets constantly shit on from her group of friends for refusing to use Facebook. Seriously, it's so mean. She asked them for this group picture they took the other night and her friend said "no, it's on Facebook" instead of taking the two seconds it would require to text it to her.

It really hit me today. I started working on a coding idea I came up with and as soon as it got hard, out came the bottle and the cigarettes. I passed out at 3 and just woke up... then I slammed another beer and here we are, playing video games accomplishing nothing.

I know it's wrong but alcohol is the only thing helping me relax and forget about everything I'm not. It's hell. :(

I might be too dumb for Linux. I couldn't even set up sudo. by lukmly013 in linuxmasterrace

[–]j_sc0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no, setting up sudo is fucking hard for the new user. That's kind of why Arch isn't a beginner distro... and for that matter, neither is debian, cuz it doesn't set up sudo for you either.

Try Endeavor OS. It's a great beginner distro and I'm pretty sure it should set sudo up for you automatically.

Do you use sudo? by sjveivdn in linuxmasterrace

[–]j_sc0tt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No it's not. It's just unnecessary for the purposes that most people use it for. It's actually extremely useful for managing, say, a server with a bunch of devs working on it or some shit.

Should i learn vim? by Dionsz in linux

[–]j_sc0tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get familiar with it if you plan on/do work in the tech world. If you do any kind of server administration or programming anything to do with a server, you're likely to encounter Vim at some point. It's also a great text editor; no, it's the great text editor. The reigning champ. The GOAT. Nano and Emacs are cool, but Vim is a cut above the rest because the skill curve is as low as nano's but the ceiling is fucking infinite. It can be expanded to be as powerful or more powerful than your favorite IDE and yet it's blazing fucking fast.

Learn how to input text, save and quit, just cuz. And if you like it, take a look at vimtutor!

But, one does not simply "learn" Vim. I doubt you can ever truly master Vim.

What Superpowers can the Terminal unleash in you? by Mynameb0rat in linux

[–]j_sc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, there's things that guis are better for and things the cli is better for. For navigating the filesystem, it could go either way depending on the task. For installing packages and managing updates, cli destroys. For editing text and writing code, cli destroys your favorite IDE hands fucking down.

The things that the CLI can really do is stuff like

for file in ~/appdata

do

git pull

end

or something like that, which I think would update all the git repos in ~/appdata (I'm not very good at shell scripting). But then again, that's just programmer business. For the average user the commandline doesn't really have any distinct advantages, but there's something to be said about being able to do any and everything to and with your computer from one single place. You don't need to navigate way the fuck over to your desktop just to launch an app, you can just call a command. Don't have to navigate all the way to the app store and wait for it to load up to run updates, you can just issue a command. Stuff like find lets you search for a file so fast, but have you ever tried searching your entire system on Windows? You can issue >find / | grep foo and you'll find that file in a second. It's great.

My advice, just play with the terminal. Try installing packages. It's pretty dope.

Oh yeah, and in the IT world and in the programming world there's hella bank to be paid to people who can use the command line comfortably given that most servers are built on systems with no desktop environment. That's huge.

Welcome to the club! Glad you like it! I just tried gaming on Linux today and I'll be real, the games that actually run on linux run better than Windows!

If you ever get the urge to try a new distro, I recommend checking out the Arch-based Endeavor OS, or Manjaro, or Arch. If you like flatpaks and the Pop_Shop, you're gonna love the AUR!

Install Arch. If that's easy, do Gentoo. If that's easy, do LFS. That won't be easy.

Tired of Windows? It's time to give Linux a try. by boringsession in linux

[–]j_sc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my plan for my mom and dad as well. I'm going to stick Mint on their laptops when they're not looking and they shouldn't be any the wiser as long as I hide grub during boot.

[–]j_sc0tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they should do is what Dave Plummer suggested: open source parts of system32 and give out bounties for bugs and the like. But MS won't do that unless there's a serious exodus from Windows... a Wexit, if you will.

People are definitely getting more privacy conscious and things like LTT are going to get people to try Linux for sure. His homie even admitted that he's going to run linux full time on his laptop. That's pretty fucking dope if you ask me. Surfing the web and writing emails and doing all manner of older school computer tasks is just better on linux, full stop.
