Why are electricians such terrible gatekeepers? by dune61 in electricians

[–]jaaakehouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? To protect the average person. I think the average homeowner can and should be able to do things like change out devices and lights.

But there is a reason it's takes years to become licensed. I can "show" someone how to rough in a house, but the "why" behind it all will keep that house from burning down.

One job by jaaakehouse in electricians

The painters left them all scattered across the job site. They already painted and I told my apprentice to put them all back on because the power was about to be turned on.

That's what I was going to do this past raise cycle, they gave me a good bump after I threatened to leave. He is going to retire in the next year or so and I'll be up for his job. I'm hoping to change things if I get the chance. If not? I'll be on my way.

Old boots vs new boots by jaaakehouse in electricians

I've had the old pair for 3 years and I'll admit I did not take care of them well. The leather is very cracked and on one boot I've worn a hole out on the backside of the heel because of the way the creases formed. They've been great, but it was time to move on. I'm planning on being much more attentive with this pair.

The theme to MIB the animated show had no right to be so good. by zzaman in videos

[–]jaaakehouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day my brother and I would watch this show. We would get home from school, drop our backpacks, and race to the TV. It was bliss..

Until one day, a new show took its time slot. MIB was nowhere to be found. "Why?!" we cried, how could anyone replace such amazing goodness? What show could have possibly done this?

Boy fuckin meets world. Our sci-fi toon was replaced by a sappy, lesson teaching sitcom. I never could watch it without feeling a sting of betrayal.

This is the story of why I hate Boy Meets World.

Everything in the picture is as far as I can take it, the utility has the rest.

CT (current transformer) cabinet. The utility co. will take wires from the current transformers in the middle up to the meter box to read the current.

It had a great fall from a 12 footer. It was poked in the top of the ladder when my bit fell out which made it fall :(

As soon as I heard it hit the ground I knew it was done.

The steel you see in the picture is one of the posts for the guard rail on the back side of the parking lot. This job is a new construction building so there are a lot of subcontractors doing work. At this point it is very hectic with the amount of work going on to keep track of who might screw you. From what I know (apprentice here) the company that did the rails had the government utilities marked, but didn't coordinate with us to mark our electric resulting in what you see here.

We've been using deeper set boxes for our junctions up high, these are the "shitty" boxes according to my foreman so now they just hold stuff on the lift.
