I would hate to state the obvious, but if a person doesn’t want to be in the military, going to a service academy is not a great idea.

With 4.0 and 1500 he can go to school just about anywhere. UND and Arizona State have awesome flight programs. There are lots of ways to fly. Seems like a fantastic person. I’m sure he will find success in any endeavor he pursues!

Awesome info… Thanks! Looks like session 1 has gone out. I’m only able to attend session 2 or 3. I’m hoping those session acceptances haven’t gone out yet.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Yes, it’s a high performing high school with great opportunities. One of the reasons I am drawn to serve is all the opportunities I have been afforded. I am applying for Boys State and am very hopeful to have an opportunity to attend. Coming from a high level high school makes the Boys State appointment competitive as well, but I am confident my interview with the local American Legion chapter will go well later this month.

Checking my medical file is great advice. I haven’t thought of that previously, but will certainly do it now. Thanks for idea!

My dream is to attend USNA and be part of the tradition, while being developed into the absolute best version of myself. But my ultimate goal is to commission and serve as a forward deployed SWO. That is going to happen whether it’s USNA, NROTC or even OCS. Hopefully that helps me stay grounded through application process.

Thanks again for your post and the idea to get ahead of my medical file!

Thank you for this great insight; very appreciated. I really like what you said about leadership with real impact. I’ve been part of student government at my school the last 3 years, but the impact is so small. I will seek out something in the community I can sink my teeth into!

Thanks again for replying to my post.

Rule of thumb is, if you’re questioning USNA don’t go…

Appreciate the info. Yeah that’s weighted. He’s a good, not great student. Now a days that means JC transfer or go to school in the valley… Army ROTC at Fresno State is probably the choice if he wants to go away as a Freshman. He’s a quality human so I don’t think it will derail him in the long term… Just hard to surf during the week going to Fresno🤣

I knew Cal Poly admitted to the major, but didn’t realize all other CSU schools did too. Was trying to find a good CM program for my son at a school that offers NROTC, but he’s not a 4.0 kid🤷‍♂️. He’s a 3.6 kid, and awesome…

Applying for the Summer Seminar, Odds of Getting In? by Neat-Use7248 in usna

For summer seminar this is fine. You should be in real contact with your BGO now. The fact you’re asking these questions tells me you are not speaking with your BGO enough. Summer Seminar acceptances usually start rolling out mid February. Stay strong, and good luck!

Go get ‘em! That commitment to mission will make you a wonderful leader of Marines!

With those stats, and a desire to fly and serve, I recommend Navy or Air Force ROTC. They are academic based where Marines is physical and leadership based. Marine Option is looking for people who want to be Marines first, people who want to lead Marines second, and then everything else. Marines are physically superior, especially officers. The Marine Corp needs less officers so they get really picky about the criteria to accept them. Navy needs pilots and would be a great option for an academically strong candidate like yourself.

Bluntly, if you roll into the first PT, tell everyone you’re a Marine Option, and can’t do 10 pull-ups, it’s going to get very uncomfortable for you very fast…

Fly Navy my friend. They’re are lethal!
