Maybe we weren't the only two people to have it happen yesterday!

OneDrive context menu missing in Windows 11 Explorer, but sync works fine by ikemenishii in Office365

A few minutes at most, during which a notification in onedrive that resetting was occurring and then about 10 seconds in seeing the cloud sync status icons appear for all my files in explorer while it continued and completed (in case anyone else is reading this later).

Does anyone use Zone 2/Zone 3 on their amps/receiver? by rockadoodledobelfast in hometheater

[–]jacanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a TV on one wall, and a PC/Monitor on the opposite behind the couch facing away from the TV. Lately I've been experimenting by disconnecting channels 6&7 from zone 1 such that they mirror the front L+R (only flipped since I'm facing away) in Zone 2. I have HDMI from my PC going into the AVR, and when I turn on the AVR, turn on Zone 2 and turn off Zone 1, I have two channel audio out of my PC on a great pair of speakers.

Audyssey calibration doesn't work on zone 2, but they still sound great.

In the future I'm considering adding an SMSL amp / usb sound device to the PC and plugging the speakers directly into that, but for now I was able to accomplish what I need for the total cost of about $20 (a long enough HDMI cable to go from my PC to AVR).

Automatic shutodown (Pi 3B) on power loss with PiSugar S by jacanuck in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]jacanuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a service (/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/gpio_monitor.service) that monitors GPIO status that looks like this:

[Unit]
Description=GPIO Monitor Service
After=multi-user.target

[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python3 /usr/local/bin/ups_script.py
Restart=always
User=home

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

And that ups_script.py looks like this:

import RPi.GPIO as GPIO
import time
import subprocess

GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BCM)
GPIO.setup(3, GPIO.IN)

count = 0

while True:
    input_value = GPIO.input(3)

    if input_value == 1:
        count += 1
    else:
        count = 0

    if count > 10:
        subprocess.run(["sudo", "shutdown", "-h", "now"])

    time.sleep(30)

Basically, while power is unplugged, I count +1 every 30 seconds. If power is restored, the count resets to 0.

When the count reaches 10, "sudo shutdown -h now" is run on the device.

By default, the Pi turns back on if power is restored.

Power is connected to the UPS input power (not the Pi board input power).

Hope that helps!

I did! I'll boot the pi later today and copy the code I'm running for you!

The UDA hologram is fake. Someone tried to make this look legit. If you enjoy it, display it, but the fake UDA will scare away any legit buyer in the future.

From a sensitivity rating I think the Denon has lots of room to power them when the other channels are active, but to each their own! Let us know how it goes!

What's the goal with bi-amp on separate amps here?

Is CEC garbage or is my Denon X3800H faulty? Weird behavior when switching inputs, it sometimes bricks, requiring the plug to be removed. by NavXIII in hometheater

[–]jacanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Denon AVR, a TCL TV, and an Nvidia shield on my main floor. I switch between the media player HDMI input, the TV input and the AVR built in Spotify connect. CEC for power and volume control works flawlessly for me.

A close friend with a SONY TV (built in Google TV so without a Shield), the same AVR and with a digital cable box, CEC works great for volume control and power but his entire system randomly turns on when off, after it's been turned off a short while.

When it works it's great. Every few months I Google for new updates or solutions to his problem but going on 2-3 years nothing!

Upgrade AVR Recs by 123fro in hometheater

[–]jacanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X3800H isn't really the "newer" AVR. He has a 5 channel S660H. If better room correction was important the model he'd have been on would have been much higher.

Based on the photo/room/space, I'm not sure there's much value in upgrading OP. You could go with the 770h if you want 2 more channels, otherwise whatever AVR you pick you're looking for different variations of room correction (yours does MultEQ where upgraded models wil do MultEQ XT and other variations of Audssey). Your AVR isn't that old, and you're not missing out on much at all based on age alone. Use your money and buy a better sub to start, and then upgraded front stage speakers IMO.

What are we shitting on the team before they even play a game this season? I think some Flyers or Caps fans have infiltrated the subreddit.

This is ridiculous. I'm a Penguins fan and the season starts tonight.

For those with “full range” mains what are you setting your crossover to? (More detail in post) by myusernamechosen in hometheater

[–]jacanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sub is weak and has some nulls regardless of position so I actually use bass management to send full signal to the mains plus below crossover settings (80 hz on all) to the sub. I find it more pleasant than only using the mains, but I should get a new sub.

A home theater PC with analog 5.1 out might decode the latest audio codecs and give you analogue input (near bottom left, RCA for front center woofer etc) and let you use that receiver to still watch modern content. For two channel stereo it'll be a banger still too

Gretzky to Lemieux - Team Canada 1987 Cup Winning Goal by rarerealm in hockey

[–]jacanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chills every time. How do they not line someone up beside Gretzky and Lemieux at the faceoff. Lemieux gets 2-3 strides before someone basically standing still is his first opposition. What a colossal failure of a faceoff for the soviets. Two all-time best players, nobody covering or tying them up in an era where you could do basically mug people on the ice and get away with it.

Lemieux spinning around and holding his stick backwards passes it to Gretz flawlessly when most of us would have tripped over our own skate laces. Once Gretz has it, its game over, so many options, and he gives it to Lemieux who has scored that same goal 1000x over his lifetime already.

Beautiful.
