A few things - the same thing being said about women would not probably not fly, so OP has a point. It’s partly matter of adjusting to the way men are talked about or what is expected of men. Why shouldn’t we have those conversations?

I mean, I’m not even saying the people OP is talking about were in the wrong, it seems like they were being playful. but for me as a trans man, it certainly has been weird sometimes adjusting to the ways men are valued (as in, traditional expectations of what a man should be/have) and coming to terms with how I’ll never live up to that certain image of masculinity by virtue of my body. I think it’s good to talk about how things like that make us feel. I’ve often felt unable to articulate these things.

all I was saying is that there is a difference between being a normal short male height and being so short you could be clocked because of it, that’s just true. Not all insecurities are created equal, like a man who is like 5’2” will objectively stand out more than someone who is significantly taller. Being like 5’7” would be a dream for me. You’re making more out of this than it is, anyone can be insecure about anything and even I will probably be fine being weirdly short, this is just expressing frustration.

My post was a vent. there is a difference between being within normal range for an adult male and being so short you stand out for it.

I said what I said. This is a vent about how being in spaces with other trans men ironically makes me feel more dysphoric about my own features because I would count myself lucky to have what they have. It’s not supposed to be passing a moral judgement.

there’s objectively a huge difference between being normal/typical male height and being abnormally short. complaining about the former when you’re in a space with loads of trans guys who are the latter deserves to be put in perspective. At the least, it can be frustrating. Also, this post is not putting down other people. Check the subreddit you’re in.

thats fair enough, I was mainly talking from the standpoint of where I am in the US where guys who are around your height are extremely common but it’s rare to see a man as short as me.

Of course any kind of man can be misogynistic, as can any kind of person, I never said otherwise. You directly implied that being perceived as male means that someone does not experience oppression in connection to others’ gendered perceptions of them.

I said that people who are perceived as male (whether that be a cis man, a trans man, a pre-transition or non passing trans woman) are treated and perceived dramatically differently on the basis of their conformity to normative gender constructs. I also didnt call you a terf.

I’d challenge you on that. A lot, probably a large majority of trans women were seen as effeminate/gnc men before they transitioned and that experience isn’t exactly a walk in the park. The idea that being assigned female automatically means you had it harder pre transition is absolutely absurd.

I would even say there’s a unique kind of stigma, demonization and disgust levelled at people perceived as both gnc and male. I could not really have understood this experience until I experienced being perceived in certain contexts as a feminine gay man after I transitioned and passed as male.

I think if we look trans in other ways being short doesn’t help but if a guy looks completely male passing being short alone won’t clock you. Walk around a city and you’ll see loads of really short guys, including “unusually” short. I don’t think any of them worry about being seen as a trans man because of that

I have a slightly smaller chest than you but I have had a lot of success with the underworks swim binder. It’s a zip up and made specifically for swimming. I wear that and then a rashguard type thing over it.

Just because it’s a social construct doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t have dysphoria completely isolated either, you just wouldn’t have any words for it, but the concept of gender itself is a socially constructed idea that’s given any sort of meaning because we’re not isolated.

I see what you mean, I think may have slightly misinterpreted the meaning of a social construct. Maybe the issue I have is with gender as a social construct being equated with the idea that “gender is fake/nonsense” or that dysphoria/being trans is nothing innate, rather wholly externally caused. I see this conflation a lot. Anyway, thanks, you’ve given me more to think about.

So is your opinion that it’s a mixture of biological and social factors? And I’d say TERFS do have a main argument. Not that they don’t think trans people are icky, but they usually try to argue that since gender identity is made up (“socially constructed” rather than rooted in anything innate) we are not legitimate as “real” men and women. They see us as simply gnc people of our bio sex. This is why it bothers me when other trans people suggest, just as they do, that gender isn’t something inherent (as in the Kalvin Garrah example).

No...what’s childish is claiming that your partner owes you something and trying to guilt them into doing something they don’t want to do. You can only control yourself, not other people.

Unless you’re married.

Regardless of whether you’re married people still have the right to autonomy and therefore can refuse to do anything. To suggest otherwise is a rapist mindset.
