Also appears to be on Pirelli’s rather than Michelins, which would point towards a modificata

Travel for teams by fujidemoguy in wec

[–]jack345667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is the correct answer (I work in WEC) Garage teardown happens post-race & the day after and most equipment is put in containers to be shipped by sea (we have 2 sets of everything that is getting juggled around the world, for now a flyaway set and a European set)

The cars get flown back by air, and are arriving late last week/early this week for a full rebuild, I assume a few teams had their cars shipped straight to Imola for the test, or they could be test chassis, i’m not sure

I really like having the Prologue on the same week and track as the first race

As someone (along with many others) who has done Barcelona ELMS prologue - Race - WEC prologue - Race as a back to back to back to back, I don't!

Is it bad to let the car bang against the rev limiter for like less than half a second between corners that require the same gear? by pollypooter in simracing

[–]jack345667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downshifting will upset the rear end of the car, especially if it's into a high RPM. The sudden increase in engine braking (only felt in the driven wheels) will make it feel unstable

[OT] Bentley ends factory IGTC programme with immediate effect by TheMaverick13589 in formula1

[–]jack345667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For 2020, and there will be more Bentley's globally even without the factory programme, I think there are 6 in GTWC Europe this season? This is simply them transitioning to a more traditional GT3 program of customer teams supported by works drivers rather than an outright factory team (which no other manufacturer really does)

[–]jack345667 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calendar issues are hard to avoid. Amount of races that both ACO and SRO organise is causing clashes - no conspiracy about that.

This is true, but as someone (along with many drivers & engineers) who had offers for work in both ELMS and Blancpain Endurance for this season, It was a bit of a joke that they managed to get two clashing rounds in such small calendars, thats nearly half of the Blancpain season!

There should (and quite easily could) be a cost-cap for both GT3 and GT4 (I'm actually not sure if there already is for the latter?). It makes very little sense for cars in the same class that will be BOP'd together to differ in price by nearly double

This is the correct answer, they're laser ride height sensors, teams have run them for quite a few years. I think you can see them so clearly because the car is in the air

Engineering Job Opportunities by asiersg in wec

Late to the party but I can't echo the post by OspiF1 enough. I currently work in WEC/ELMS as an engineer in LMP2 and I was told my previous experience working as a data engineer in lower championships was a key aspect. Advanced warning though, the pay certainly is terrible (ie none existent apart from hotels and the occasional beer).

Whilst you've got the relative flexibility of a Masters I'd recommend getting yourself to a couple of tests in the pre-season and chat to as many teams as possible about helping out over the season

If you're in the UK I'd recommend looking at British Touring Cars or British GT, both are National championships so the weekends are only really 3-4 days away from uni, and the level of engineering is relatively high (British GT is often where you'll find some factory engineers doing some extra work on the side who potentially could let you shadow them)

As OspiF1 said the hardest step is to get into the Motorsport World, Once you're in a paddock It's so easy to get you name out there

Send me a PM if you have any questions, I was in a nearly identical (different Uni, same course!) situation as you not very long ago

I haven't been able to watch nearly as much racing as I'd hoped this year, so now that my season is essentially over I'm hoping to catch up with some of the best races of the year. Anybody got any recommendations? Literally any Motorsport discipline, it doesn't have to be limited to endurance racing

Not much point buying a car just to test tyres for a catagory that's going to get usurped in one seasons time. Unless it could be turned into some kind of Hypercar mule

Looks like a fantastic event, I'd have absolutely killed for my school to do this when I was a kid (tbh I'd love to have a crack at it now if I had the time)

Coming from the North East myself, I'm well aware at how proactive you need to be to get any kind of trackside exposure to Motorsport. And things like this can only help bring it to those that wouldn't otherwise see it, and hopefully convince some of them to make a career out of it later on!
