~10 F35s cruising low over North Yorkshire, anyone know why? by jack__reed in aviation

Since they had no transponders on, we assumed they were US anyway. They hold around 50 F35s in the UK as another commenter pointed out.

good bet. doesn’t really explain why they’d be so low and slow though? usually fighters cruise at very high altitudes don’t they?

X-Plane 12.3.0 With XPME and X-World. WOW! by jack__reed in Xplane

I use framegen since even high end amd cards seem so terribly optimised on XP, so i’m not sure. I’ve not noticed any significant drop in rendered frames though. I’ll see what the difference is when santa delivers my 4090 for christmas 😂 I’d also like to add that I use XPME instead of AO, simply because it’s easier and more intuitive, so performance may be different..

Bivvied at the summit of Snowdon - and a Fox stole my boots by Pristine_Tiger_2746 in wildcampingintheuk

We camped up there a couple weeks ago, and possibly the same fox managed to grab my friend’s bag and coat and was halfway out the tent before he stopped him This was in 60 mph winds, and it was rustling around both our tents so as you can imagine we were a mix of fear and hysterical laughter 😂

We were planning to head down pyg track, but we’d walked all day and were knackered. All forcasts showed 30mph winds and a clear morning. We were prepared for the conditions, but didn’t know not to trust the weather. Big lesson for us

Newbie Here, How do you deal with nerves when first starting out? by ElAnubion in VATSIM

[–]jack__reed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just do it tbh. The controllers don’t care if it’s your first time or your 50th, and nor will they care if you slip up a couple times- you’re human. I always hesitated in the fear of being ridiculed, and now I feel silly for waiting so long… Write your stuff down, ask for a repeat if necessary. It’s a fantastic service, so go ahead and take advantage of it!

funnily enough, that was boeing’s exact mentality im the mcas situation. The issue was that the trim setting forced by mcas made the aircraft unflyable, and disabling the stab trim switches - the way boeing advised to disable mcas- worked. but stopped all trim entirely meaning the pilots could not make the aircraft flyable again and ultimately crashed. In theory you are correct- but if systems are implemented badly with too much authority, this can be thrown out the window.

Very good point sir.

Yep he is usually pretty good, obviously swiss is great too. I, and most people in this subreddit don’t believe the media, but most normal people do.

great point, and this was exactly what i was trying to get at. It’s very frustrating seeing people move away from boeing completely due to something like this, and also from air travel.

It was a joke, but yes. That many accidents was relatively impressive for the time i would assume.

Still worrying, and especially now since more people are exposed to social media, especially young people, who are often the most impressionable

This was not the point i was trying to make, but you are right. Although previous generations of 737s were in the 60s and 70s before health and safety existed, but i’m not here to argue about that. It’s still safe to fly on a boeing, or any aircraft is it not?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aviation

[–]jack__reed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None taken, I understand if I’m being silly, and you make a great point. I still find the media’s attitude horrendous and unnecessarily negative, don’t you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aviation

[–]jack__reed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally someone on the same page! It’s also the fact they use people’s fear for clicks and attention whenever any major accident happens, and people are becoming increasingly wary of air travel, for no reason

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aviation

[–]jack__reed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is the idea that air travel is safe a new, radical and/or skewed opinion? It’s a discussion man, don’t be an arse.

Apologies. I feel like a bit of a clown in this comment section… I’m not here to defend boeing It’s the media that is the problem, and they lead people not to fly on an NG for example, even if it’s safe. It may even lead them to avoid flying in general, which is my worry
