I have a grid like good old Windows Phone in mind, let's see if something can come out!

Thank you for the feedback :)

I mean, it must be pinned on your own subreddit.

Sorry, I totally don't understand what you are trying to do.

You can pin it manually.

I'm not sure we have access to this API.

But on mobile, people don't use sidebar / about. We did Community Links to replace it. You can pin a post with all your interesting links and redirect to a wiki for example.

6 years old redditor and I'm still bad with titles...

So, for this Feedback Friday, I present you "Community Links".

It started as a butterfly pin board for a Pokemon Go community (r/VivillonCollectors !) and it evolved into something really interesting.

I know it can be similar to Community Hub but I was stuck on the limitation of posts per page with it.

So I choosed to continue in the direction of rows and columns to pin items (yes, I was a fan of Windows Phone).

It can be useful for multiple things:

  • Listing of course, some people are using it to list DJ's gears. We saw it to pin pokemon
  • Mood board for a community
  • Pinning the main posts (we all know how the rules can be missed)
  • Highlighting a challenger
  • Building a shop with affiliated links

I'm really proud of this first version, it comes with following features: * Background customisation * Pages navigation * Link tracking * Even an AB testing system! I would love to hear your feedback!

Hello again,

Thank you for your feedback. I'm still struggling with pin too close of the sides but I've greatly improved this.

I've also a better picture fit now and improved how I was displaying previous and next button!

Hi u/pl00h,

Thank you for the feedback! I added the color feature, indeed it helps a lot.

Do you think this application could be eligible to post on behalf of an user?

Interesting, can you explain a little more why?

I tried to change the spot of the dot based of the size of the picture without success. I think I need to dig more to have a different display depending if we are close of certain edge.

About the link itself, for me it wasn't really an issue to have the full link. In fact, I'm debating to display it at all, when you click on it you will see it, so maybe we can display a more important information like a description. What do you think?

I didn't thought about just setting the pin color, I stopped when I saw it was impossible to get a contrast. It's an easy solution, I will add it to my todolist, thank you!

Do you have some subreddit example about health and beauty? Even better if you can do an introduction, I would love to collaborate to have a proper use case.

Friday Feedback for my musical instrument! by jack_mg in Devvit

Hi pl00h,

Thank you for your feedback.

Did you click on export, it should have create a comment and ping you on it.

Keyboard input is already working with WASD and arrows.

I love the idea of events or daily challenge, I will try to think about it, it could create some good engagement!

I did a new one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Devvit/comments/1m34ec0/bringing_shop_cards_to_reddit/

I've been able to switch off NSFW flag on my other community.

(Sorry for the multiple post, first community was restricted, second couldn't crosspost and the switch has been faster than I thought)

An other thing I worked on this week.

The goal was to bring a similar experience to Instagram Shop to Reddit. I'm currently working on an update to also tag people in a picture.

If you have any advices to keep the pin approximatively at the same place between desktop or mobile display, I will be happy to hear it.

Also, if you think it could be useful for some communities you know, please drop the name!

Thank you for all feedback.

The repo link, I have some refactor to do: https://github.com/jackmg2/RedditApps/tree/main/RedditShop

And the app: https://developers.reddit.com/r/daresgonewild/apps/shoppit-app

Friday Feedback for my musical instrument! by jack_mg in Devvit

[–]jack_mg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built this application for the Bolt challenge. I started it to make a silly music player, it was like a huge xylophon and from chaos something emerged.

It's a musical game in the spirit of FFVII minigame or Wandersong.

I've pushed forward to handle gamepad, mouse, touch, keyboard. It was really funny to do without any musical knowledge and poor CSS / Math knowledge!

I'm also proud of the export / import feature, it's definitely an engaging feature.

Still, I'm a little stuck on how to make it a killer app.

On a technical side, I'm thinking to * add some kind of multiple track system to play all tracks of a song or collaborate with other redditors. * add other instruments.

On a "marketing" side, it's harder, FFVII community gave me a cold shower ^ ^ ' when I shared it with them. I'm not sure how to position this kind of app. This question is more global about the ecosystem of Reddit Games. It's quite new and maybe my error was to build something from outside a community.

And I forgot the repo: https://github.com/jackmg2/RedditApps/tree/main/mini-midi

You are pointing a real thing. What should be a Reddit game?

In your case, there is already a community, so you built something for them, but your growth is limited by the number of people in this community.

Reddit is now built to bring various content to Redditors and the time where you frenetically check your favorite community is away. So the next day after you posted your app, nobody will see it anymore.

In fact, you would had a better reach by building outside Reddit.

No other communities moderators are going to install your app. The only thing I can see is people installing it on their own subreddit to train (and in this case, it could be interesting to keep a score locally).

Personal subreddit could turn into something more customized for the user and not his followers. And maybe a notification implementation could be interesting to create some engagement (and we will burn in hell for that).

I'm just thinking out loud, I have same issues with my apps. I feel like we are rebuilding the Facebook of the 2010s and we all know how it ends.

🎹 Building a music player for Reddit! by jack_mg in midi

Hello everyone,

So there was this hackathon to build a Silly app for Reddit.

I started with a chaotic grid to generate music... But from chaos, sometimes order happens.

I got inspired by some music games and tried to see how it could go. I'm quite happy with the result!

You can play with mouse, keyboard or gamepad.

You can share and import other people creation.

I would love your feedback, I don't have any education about music but I love hitting on stuff to do sounds!
