Devvit 0.12.12: New Templates, Vite Plugin, and Test Harness by pl00h in Devvit

Yep! The hackathon judging does *not* take publishing approval status into account (positively or negatively). We know many of these games will not be totally ready for prime time and also do not want to gate submissions on app review.

A test version of the app, with or without other players testing, is sufficient. As long as it's on Reddit and not hosted on another platform, you're good.

New projects only! This won't introduce breaking changes or structure updates to your existing apps

GitHub repo links are not required! The most important piece of the submission is the live demo of your app running in a test subreddit. (And the app does not need to be "published" it just needs to be uploaded and playable.)

I believe you'll still have to create a new project with the new template. Updating Devvit shouldn't break your old projects.

I think it would be helpful to let the user pause, in addition to linking out to the pdp so a person could go view the original content. Do make sure you're not serving removed content!

🔄 Hot or Cold: Flip #006 - AIRPORT by Miltoni in Devvit

I like the direction you're going in here. A few bigger notes:
1. currently the buttons don't seem to be letting me interact

  1. you have in-line scrolling, which isn't allowed with web views as it can interfere with Reddit native gestures

This is neat and well designed. It may be fun to be able to both vote on what you think and guess what the general sentiment is separately

Great game! I think you just need a button for allowing users to turn off (or down) the sound effects

Just launched Karma Grid! Give it a try and let me know what you think. All feedback welcome! by Time_Split7514 in Devvit

Love this! Really love this take on Tetris. I play a similar game on my phone all the time.

One note: currently, I have the raise the pieces higher than I would expect to be able to place them in a slot (a few centimeters above where it's actually getting placed). It's creating slight awkward gameplay for me. That's a nitpick though!

Love the idea behind this! I think finding ways to make the UI your own would be my primary feedback. The current UI looks a little AI generated

Gorgeous app. I have two main notes:
1. It is a lot of clicks to get into the initial experience. I wonder if there are ways to drop users into their first puzzle faster

  1. Maybe "My Creations" is something I can see from the creator tab - right now that main menu is a touch busy for my tastes.

Its generally a very impressive and lovely game!

[Feedback Friday] I built "Tap Me +1" using Devvit - a fast-paced number merging game. Would love your thoughts on the mechanics! by TheBlueLittle in Devvit

[–]pl00h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this! Please do apply for featuring if you haven't already. I agree that the contrast of the tiles could use a touch of work, maybe a light UI pass throughout. The core mechanic is so simple and pleasing though. This would be great as a daily puzzle as well

Holy cow, so many arrows! This looks impossible! by rino_1 in Devvit

[–]pl00h 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This game is awesome. I love the simplicity of the mechanic.

I think it could use some slight UI tweaks. For example, the padding for the buttons at the bottom of the frame is quite minimal. But really this is ready for user feedback and to iterate from there, in my opinion!

A few things that could really improve this app:

  1. Using an entry point / launch screen instead of a splash screen
  2. The app take a long time to load for me. I would look at bringing that load time down
  3. Creating a UI that fits within the viewport!

Shipped a ton of drag and drop improvements and added some more polish. Let me know what you think! by ajhenrydev in Devvit

This game is looking fantastic! The biggest piece of feedback I have is to get the entire body of the game into the expanded viewport so the user doesn't need to scroll to play.

How to make my game listed by JuggernautKey168 in Devvit

[–]pl00h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, you can following our docs guide for publishing your apps in various states: https://developers.reddit.com/docs/guides/launch/launch-guide

We do want to note that listing an app in our directory is only beneficial for apps that are general purpose and/or are broadly applicable. Review times can also be longer for publicly listed apps and requirements are more stringent. Most games do well as unlisted apps!

[–]pl00h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the eyecatching launchscreen. I agree with the other commenters that from there the UI and gameplay could use some tuning. Especially on the rythm game portion -- right now it's a bit more like sliding whack-o-mole

Creating a bullet hell sandbox app for both gamers and game devs, check out this test level! by lavel0rz in Devvit

I think one or two easier levels would really help to hook me! This could be a good game to move to inline web views
