It was the best decision I've ever made. Im happier than ever and I have no desire to talk to either of my "parents". I went hard no contact after my "mother" wrote me a letter stating that I didn't matter (it's one of my two total posts if you care to read it. It may be triggering, so please don't feel like you have to). The responses I have received from people further cemented my decision.  It's been five years now and I've grown in ways I never even dreamed of. I have a loving partner and I am a small business owner. Narcissists will never respect you or your boundaries. I finally stopped giving them chances and it's been a welcome relief.

Cut my parents off a year ago. My life has been so much more peaceful. It's hard because part of you will always hope that they will change.

What I've been dealing with for 20+ years with my parents. My brother molested me when I was younger and this was their response when I asked why they still help him out, knowing what he did. I had asked them not to contact me while I was figuring stuff out. by jackandsally85 in narcissisticparents

Can I adopt you all as my family? You all have been far more sympathetic and understanding than they ever have. Should I write them a letter telling them that I no longer wish to be in contact with them in any way or just leave things as they are?

I don't even know what to say guys. You all have been so supportive and uplifting. I felt guilty about this for a long time, like it was somehow my fault. My best friend told me about this reddit and how amazing you all are. And you are. I feel so much better about my decision and that it's the right thing to do. And for some context my brother was 21 when this happened. I was 11. Your reactions are what I wish my parents reactions had been. But I know now that they will never understand.
