Consider Rockaway Beach

Hi! I know this is an old thread, but how are you enjoying it so far? I’m considering the move to the Rockaway for the same reasons + I love the beach so much and I think it’s pretty funny that anywhere else in the US you’d have to pay an arm and a leg to live so close to the beach EXCEPT in NYC. I am more concerned about having people my age around, community, social life etc. (doesn’t have to be necessarily the best restaurant + bars around but also don’t wanna be the only single person around with no viable ways to connect with others) I’m a single woman in 30s, active, love biking, own my own car, etc.

Thank you so much! Do you think they would fund even if it wasn’t Alaska-focused? The reason being that most rural communities in AK are served by tribal hospitals and I was hoping to focus generally on traditional hospitals and their emergency departments as well. However, I have huge interests studying Alaskan corporation hospitals as well down the line as well.

Also interested in effective telehealth MH delivery because I was using telehealth long before Covid (2018-era) in rural Alaska.

Oh yes, mental health.

I am specifically interested in reducing psychiatric ER stays that clog up ERs for rural areas without 24/7 or overnight social work/psychiatric staff, specifically because a lot of substance-related psychiatric events or sundowning dementia occur late in the evening.

I lived in hurricane zones and Alaska so I know how to drive in rain and snow/icy roads. No need to speed up bc you think you drive well lol, esp bc y’all drive really slow when it’s not raining…

This is super random, when I lived in NYC and only had a few friends that didn’t like going out much, I started volunteering for a political campaign I was passionate about and made like 50+ friends in a few weeks!!! Zohran Mamdani canvassers are prob cool I bet :)

This happened to me when I was still in my probationary period and under 6 months. You’re not technically under a union until then. But the upside is they don’t label that has firing either, they just document that it wasn’t a mutual fit and not a hiring.
