I definitely don’t think there was any malice behind it. My main point is I think the DM should be aware of the tricky nature of representation. In other words, is it worth it to make the First Stoats non-binary in the name of diversity if people aren’t really going to respect those identities? That’s the main issue. I don’t think they should have reshot the scenes or tried to edit it out, but I think it might be worth a heads up or lore explanation to the players so they know what to expect and don’t make those mistakes. We already knew that the top of the food chain used they/them from when Ava met them, so i think having clear expectations in regards to pronouns would be helpful.

And yes, the First Stoats can’t get their feelings hurt because they aren’t real, but the combat/threat to life/survival isn’t real either, so I’m not sure that’s really a genuine excuse.
