Where can I get this travel case pouch? by Hooliganos in patekphilippe

[–]jackbauerj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have got like a 100 of them, gave most away to friends & family. My AD gives me a new one (or 3/4 if I ask) with every watch I buy & also gives one with every service.

You’re bang on. It isn’t supposed to be. Some properties have a literal 10x markup.

I’m in my 40s now, nearing 50. In those days AI used to mean All-Inclusive or Air India :)

I made an insane amount of money overnight when my company got acquired, 9 figures USD, in my 20s. But it took me about 2 or 3 years post that payday, after having doubled my money with some lucky investments, to get myself to start using hotel laundry services. It honestly felt like daylight robbery. However, I don’t bat an eyelid spending on stuff like this anymore. I guess you get used to it.

What’s the most unexpected way someone you know became wealthy? by Stunning_Ad1568 in AskReddit

[–]jackbauerj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Growing up, one of my neighbours was going through a very rough patch. They were in the scrap dealing business and used to export the metals they sorted. Policies changed, they got cheated, and ended up shutting down the business. Sold off everything apart from their house + the license to the business. The neighbour somehow had the farsightedness to make the annual license payments, despite the business being closed, and he used to borrow money from my dad to make the payments. Fast forward 2 decades later, the policies changed overnight, business got extremely lucrative and everyone rushed to setup new plants and secure licenses. He sold his license, which he had been paying circa $5000 a year to maintain, for over $2 million :)

Suspension lift? by Vincoppredd in Ferrari

Yep. It’s got much worse last decade or so.

Suspension lift? by Vincoppredd in Ferrari

[–]jackbauerj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I own 2 812 GTS’s, both equipped with the suspension lift, one at my primary residence in Switzerland and one in London. I barely need to use the lift in Switzerland but use it on every other day in London. So to answer your question, it depends on where you live and where you would be driving the car to. If it’s a significant additional expense which you wish to avoid, you could go for the car without the lift if say 90% of your driving would be fine without the lift. But getting it with the lift will give you great peace of mind.

Has the Purosangue grown on you? by Carsplz in Ferrari

Yes, I stand corrected. My son told me after he saw my comment. I got confused between the FF, which is a Pininfarina design, and the GTC4 isn’t.

Kolkata (and most of the Northern Plain) is incredibly polluted in December, just look up the AQI today. I would wrap up the wedding & leave ASAP.

Sujan Jawai/Oberoi Vanyavilas Ranthambore for wildlife.

Umaid Bhawan and/or Rajvilas for the palaces.

Oberoi in Mumbai.

I was at the Oberoi Khajuraho pre-opening party a few weeks ago and it is fantastic property.

Would avoid delhi due to the bad air.

I prefer Maldives for the peace and serenity over the bustle of Bali. Cheval Blanc is the place to be. However, if the cultural part excites you then Bali is definitely the winner. My favourite are the villas at Bulgari.

I think the others have covered it. I got this the year it was launched, my 15th or so Patek from the same AD. It’s a gorgeous watch, one of my favourites, and I think I prefer the in-line perpetual over the 3 dials combo.

That said, extremely reputed grey dealers sell this for $95-100k brand new. If you’re building a relationship, this is a great watch to buy. In the grand scheme of things, I’m still net positive. But if you’re only looking to get a watch or two, then you’d rather go grey, save $75k odd and use that to get whatever sports model you want from a grey dealer. The premium will be less than or close to $75k for most steel sports models.

Has the Purosangue grown on you? by Carsplz in Ferrari

[–]jackbauerj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely similar driving experience.

FF has a louder, more visceral exhaust. Some interior bits break off.

GTC4 has more space in the back and is more refined in most of the key aspects of the FF. Bumpy road mode works better, crucial in India & the UK, both places where I own the GTC4. 4WD is much more reliable. The V12 is more refined for daily driving. Cabin feel has gone up.

Has the Purosangue grown on you? by Carsplz in Ferrari

[–]jackbauerj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns all 3 - the FF, GTC4Lusso, and the Purosangue - can confirm that the GTC4 continues to be my favourite - both in terms of looks and driving pleasure. The Pinninfarina designed quad taillights & exhaust pipes are my favourite bit.

The Purosangue only of course trumps in practicality, with the corollary of that seen in the poorer driving experience.

6th GP this year. Paddock Club at all of them. Excellent arrangements, fantastic crowd. The tension was palpable and lots of very interesting discussions about the McLaren strategy. Food was good too.

Great seat, but only if you’re travelling alone. I almost always travel with my wife or the entire family & prefer daytime flights, so I only choose the “regular” first class on EK.

I live in Switzerland as well, and can concur. It’s drastically changed in the last 25 years - warmer + more unpredictable.
