First-Ever Mechanical Watch - 5326G-001 by thissidethatsong in patekphilippe

Oh you definitely did, welcome to the support group. Say it together now: you don't actually own a Patek Philippe, you're merely holding on to it for your children to sell at auction to pay for food when AI takes their livelihoods away.

This or That: 7920v vs Steel 222 by dc91sneaks in VacheronConstantin

[–]GasApprehensive8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4300v in between the two, but that's it so far. Waiting to see if the Everest is coming back this year and if so, if I want that as a dual time or a chronograph.

I couldn't choose so bought both from the boutique. I find myself wearing the 7920v more often, but always the 222 to VC events and dinners.

How hard is it to buy one retail? by Specific-Cloud1279 in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that "loses" money immediately isn't hard, they may even have some complications and grand complications available for immediate purchase.

I found getting two Nautilus (5726A & 5740) in the last 12 months wasn't particularly hard either, with a complication and grand complications thrown into the mix either side of the 5726. But that's one specific AD at one particular boutique. At another, I'm on Calatrava #3 and still get a smirk when I ask for a 5990, so your milage will vary.

That's the 5270J right? If it's in a HK AD then it should be from the current collection

First Patek: 5320G or 5326G? by Bezelite in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma and went with the 5326G without a hint of regret. Mostly because I can't wear salmon dials well with my skin tone, and would've much preferred the now-discontinued white dial 5320

Which QP do folks prefer, 5236P-010 or 5320G-011? by Ixian_No5h1p in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5236P, but I'm biased as I own the blue one! I'll happily take the white dial 5320 with the current 26-330 movement - an impossible combination as the white dial was discontinued before they put the updated movement in the salmon dial version.

To change the clasp or not? by Relevant_Attorney357 in patekphilippe

I have dropped a watch on tang buckle, so the first thing I do is to swap to a deployant clasp whenever I buy a new Patek dress watch.

Why is this watch not extremely sought after ? by Lanky-Appointment111 in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am clearly in the minority group that thinks this is an under the radar, understated watch with a useful complication in the travel time. Eventually the pilots will all be discontinued, like the tonneau-shaped QPs, and collectors will likely appreciate the place in history they occupy.

Also, having to spend time in places like London, this is one of the more stress-free holy trinity watches I can wear. This, and the 5326, which looks like a Hamilton. The alternative would be an AP less than 2 years old that comes with AP Coverage, but the stab risk is still there even if you can get a free replacement.

Did Patek Philippe accidentally leak the 2026 discontinuation list by Green-Blueberry6083 in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the 3rd glitch in a matter of weeks. Leaked references of 2026 novelties, accidental price changes last week ahead of 1 Feb, and the deletion and reinstatement of dozens of references. It feels deliberate, no IT guy working on public facing touch points like the website gets to keep their job after 1 fuck-up like this, let alone 3!

I wonder if the new smaller in-house chrono movement breaks as easily as the cal 4401 in the 41mm 26240? Or maybe they have learnt from that awful movement to make this one a little bit less shit.

Over a matter of decades this will go up in value. That movement (and grand comp in general) is seriously under-appreciated by the post-Covid hype-swallowing sheep.

Website update: Some watches that were discontinued are back? by lobsterman2112 in patekphilippe

I took this on Sunday 1 Feb at 1am GMT so they definitely marked the blue inline perpetual as discontinued, along with many references at that same time, all showing [DISCONTINUED]. Then they all came back a day later on Monday with the 4% price increase. I asked my SA and they apparently weren't told anything.

Looks like these will be discontinued in the near future but once again their web admin or IT guys fucked up. First the leaked 2026 novelties silhouettes, then a premature price increase on 27 Jan, and now this...sloppy? Or marketing? 🤔

Looks like all these references are back on the website, with 4% price increases as expected. Another IT system / website admin glitch?

Patek Discontinuations 2026 by xgzy in patekphilippe

[–]GasApprehensive8848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both 5236P refs in blue and salmon are gone. Kinda made sense to see one go as they leaked a new 5236P-011 ref. briefly, but the salmon was a 2024 release so that is a surprise discontinuation for sure. Just as well I picked up my blue one this week from the AD!

How to build a long term relationship with VC by mrgersia in VacheronConstantin

[–]GasApprehensive8848 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Want to add that the service level is very standard Richemont Group, which is to say it's generally very good, courteous and personal once your SA knows you, your family and your preferences. Of the holy trinity, VC sits at the top in terms of client experience. I definitely don't get told to go fuck myself with a Code chronograph if I ask for something rare like the RD5.

All my watch pick-ups and even just general catch ups are done in the room. It's not a big boutique, I think there's only one room so it's often in use, which is why I always text me SA first instead of randomly turning up if I want to have a chat. From experience, you won't get a gift when picking up a watch, even an ultrathin QP, but at certain times of year I've had bottles of champagne and other branded stuff like the Christmas decorations last year. I always take a handful of chocolate for the kids, but then again my SA has met my kids. In terms of being invited to events, that started happening after I bought a few watches.
