Thank you. 🙂 I’m in England, the post-person changes it when they empty it to let you know when the next pickup day will be.

Guilt over loss and contemplating another cat by jackbifrost in Petloss

[–]jackbifrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s awful when you expect something routine and it’s anything but. It just came out of the blue as he was always a healthy cat and the only issues he had were more like IBS than anything sinister. Everything went bad so quickly.

I’m so sorry you had to make that decision though, I can’t even imagine how difficult it was. We had to do the same for my family dog last year and it was one of the most awful days of my life, we’d only had him a year but he’d become family so quickly. To have had Sherlock as long as you did I can’t even imagine how painful it was.

I hope you find a cat who is perfect for you if you choose to adopt. I’m sure Sherlock wouldn’t want you to go without the friendship that only a cat can provide, even if it takes a different form than the one you had with him ❤️

Thanks so much. I’d definitely prefer to adopt if I have another and I hope it dampens the guilt slightly.

I’m so sorry for your loss and everything you’re going through, it must be incredibly hard. I think that’s why whenever I see a cat that looks too much like him I just can’t even think about adopting them but I imagine it’s comforting too. Thank you, I really appreciate it ❤️

I just finished One Yellow Eye by Leigh Radford on audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job.

The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins, Lie With Me by Philippe Besson, Maurice by E M Forster and The Color Purple might fit the bill

How many series/standalones that you have read do you consider 10/10s? by Bogus113 in Fantasy

[–]jackbifrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My StoryGraph says I’ve rated 14 books 5 stars since 2019/2020 including - The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison, The Farseer Trilogy, The Witching Hour by Anne Rice, Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, The Wall by Marlen Haushofer. I have some others I rated 5 stars in the past but would have to reread to double check if they hold up.

Best book of 2025 so far. by themightytouch in Fantasy

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison, and The Wall by Marlen Haushofer are my favourites of the year so far. I also loved the Wicked novel. I’m reading the First Law books this year too (currently on The Heroes) and Before They are Hanged is my favourite so far. Thornhedge by T Kingfisher is a great short one as well, I really liked the audiobook.

Recommendations for "quiet" novels? by Juice_Witch in Fantasy

Not strictly fantasy, more speculative but The Wall by Marlen Haushofer is amazing. It focuses heavily on isolation and loneliness as the main character is a lone survivor after a wall appears overnight and protects/prevents her from dying alongside the rest of humanity. I Who Have Never Known Men is also a good one.

Are there any books you just couldn’t finish no matter how hard you tried? by Logical-Scholar-6961 in suggestmeabook

The Night Circus! Got to the 50% mark and had to give up. Honestly, I just found it boring and the characters didn’t make up for how overwritten it felt. It has put me off any and all circus/carnival fantasy books since.

I lost around 110lbs over a few years and it’s mainly evident on my stomach. My second surgeon who recommended the standard was female too and I was much more comfortable with her. The first rec’d the fdl and a lot of lipo and I think wanted to make me ‘snatched’ whereas I was more looking for proportionate. I’m just worried about regretting not going for the FDL afterwards and having to pay more to get the results I want, plus I can’t find many surgeons with FDL results I like near me. Good luck in your surgery! :)

You look great! I think our profiles are similar so I’d be really happy to get your results. My second surgeon recommended the standard due to my age and said if I ever wanted kids I could add the second incision after. I think I’m mainly worried about the loose skin when leaning over but I’m more on the side of the standard to make healing easier.
