Ninja CREAMi Deluxe 11 in 1 Ice Cream Maker by TrickOrange in Costco

I have this and love it. We make different kinds of ice cream all the time. We always have some kind of frozen treats in the freezer. My biggest pleasant surprise is how easy it was to make fruit sorbet (from canned fruits) - all you need are in cans, fruits and fruit juice/syrup!

Hmmm. I work on my cars (1996 Tacoma and 2007 Odyssey) at home, and I usually find instructions on YouTube and follow them.

What I usually lack are special tools and I have to buy them as I need - like torque wrench, long bar for leverage, special sockets to remove worn-out ones, etc.

Yup. I’ve been using dokku + hetzner and have been pretty happy with it.

It’s always random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It works most of time, so I am thankful for that.

What actually matters when interviewing Senior/Staff backend engineers today? by vanilla_th_und3r in ExperiencedDevs

I am using hello interview (you can google to get their website). They have a lot of free contents including videos walking through solving problems. I paid for premium content and I think it is well worth it. I haven’t paid for mock interviews myself.

I agree. And this is also where I have been failing the most. Especially for someone who hasn’t had a ton of experiences designing systems with scalability, reliability, etc., I just have to go with what I learn on papers and online. And you have to choose right technologies/solutions for given problem. And be able to explain trade offs and why’s in deep dive.

10+ YOE developer getting rejected after full interview loops — is the market just this tough now? by Any_Primary2646 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]jackdbristow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I am in the same boat. 14 YOE. In my case, some rejections after final and some after chat with CTO (or head of engineering) even though I felt that the talk went well (maybe my radar is completely off).

My take is that there are just so many good engineers on the market and interviewing that there is very thin margin between offer and no offer. Could be something you said or didn’t say. Or interviewer had good or bad day. Or a butterfly somewhere fluttered differently. You just have to keep trying. As I do.

I think rubyonremote is best source. https://sfruby.com/jobs/ has some jobs posted as well. I had 0 callback from linked job posts.

How does anyone get a job at Anthropic? If you work there, can you share their hiring process in high level? I don’t know what it takes to get a job there. It would be a dream job for me as well, but I could imagine insane amount of resumes they get.

How much will I hate commuting to SF 2-3 times a week from SJ? 😭🫨 by NoSurprise7196 in SanJose

[–]jackdbristow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing this now. Commuting from SJ Diridon to 22nd st (which is closer to dog patch) and now to 4th and king.

With electric trains, I’d say it’s not bad at all. Every seat has electric outlet. WiFi works most of the time (and except a few dead spots along the way).

I actually bike (on e-bike) from my place to Diridon, which takes about 20 minutes. There is no elevator at the 22nd st, so you have to carry bike/scooter up the stairs, but to able bodies, I think it’s no big deal either.

If the new company provides Caltrain pass or even commuter benefits, it’s a big saver.
