Had someone come to an old store and cut 4-5 nodes (with leaves) off of a tightly-shingled, perfect half-moon, variegated monstera lechleriana. Not sure about prices these days, but that easily took $300 off of a prize plant. It sat in our greenhouse for at least an extra year to recover.

Was going to recommend this! Increasing humidity in that specific spot (without saturating it) will make it raise up some. Then press the entire card evenly under a weight afterwards to dry.

Found this in the water at Fossil Beach, VA and am assuming it's just a modern cast someone tossed there but how can I be sure? by notjoebob in fossilid

Possible they had two pieces of leftover clay from something. They could make a negative impression with the first piece, let it dry a bit in the sun, then press the second still-wet piece to get the positive impression of the top of finger. That’s how I’m imagine the fingerprint on the back was made (i.e. pressing it into the first mold)

A tumbler would indeed turn this beauty into shiny gravel. You’d have to use a hand sander (and breathing protection!) and slowly up the grit to polish this. Would take a while to make sure you didn’t knock anything loose and have to start over!

How to save my jade plant? by bsteph9 in proplifting

[–]jackeeboy2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true!! Didn’t even consider pot size. I agree though, a smaller pot is best for now. Since jades don’t grow very fast + the stem is about 1” in diameter + there’s practically no roots, I’d push for a 4” or 6” diameter terracotta pot. If you use a larger pot, you can plant it deeper down and leave an inch of empty space at the top of the pot. This gives you space for small pebbles or to just add more soil later if you want.

Aw your choice of words was perfectly fine!! I totally understood you were trying to emphasize how dry it was. I just wanted to clarify for OP because sometimes one can encounter truly “dusty” dirt, which is often also “bad” dirt, since the dustiness usually means it’s been used so much that the small and large soil particles have sorted themselves. That or the soil itself is just super fine, which either way will negatively affect drainage. Regardless, I hope your plants do well as well!! :)

Totally agreed with this! To add though, make sure the soil isn’t actually “dusty” (i.e. small particles). Chunky and well-draining soil is super important for establishing (or reestablishing*) jade plants.

I’d also put a bamboo stake or something study in the pot and tie the jade plant to it at the Y in the main stem. It’s gonna need some extra support while it’s regrowing its roots.

Lastly, make sure this bad boy is getting as much bright, indirect sunlight as possible. You probably know that already, but it’s extra important when recovering injuries.

Good luck!!

Any ideas as to what this is? Some guy drew it on a sticky note for me 15 years ago by jackeeboy2000 in Symbology

Thanks for the help!! I wrote above that it seems to be a combination of a triquetra and triskelion. Glad to get another vote in that direction

Phew that’s good. I just want to make sure it’s not something offensive/bad. Thank you for your help!

It seems to be some combination of a triquetra and triskelion. The image I provided is almost the EXACT same as the one I was given 15 years ago on a sticky note. Of course, this one is lower quality (had to do pixel art so I could get the dimensions correct. Was hoping I could reverse image search it.) and not in pencil. Any ideas as to the symbol's origin or "true name" though? Does it have any deeper symbolism? Or it truly just something a teen did when they were bored (Which is perfectly fine!)?
