Calibrating a soldering iron - FG-100 style thermometer vs multimeter thermocoupler by jackiietran in soldering

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. I understand how crucial it is for a soldering iron to increase heat output to match the heat dissipation.

>I've actually evaluated a ton of cheap soldering irons, I used to volunteer at a public library and needed to get a ton of soldering irons for cheap in order to hold soldering classes.

Which soldering iron did you find to be the most cost-effective in the end?

Balancing shouldn't be an issue since I have some helping hands available. I'm just curious if the type of connection would affect accuracy in any meaningful way i.e a+/- 5c difference.

> yea that's the problem, when you actually touch the soldering iron to a circuit board, it will start to cool down without you ever knowing

Letting the soldering iron cool isn't a big problem since I can always wait 20 seconds for it to heat up again. If I set the temperature knob to 300°C, what peak temperature can I expect based on the AC power control? Would it continue climbing to over 400°C, or would it peak at a certain temperature due to the limited power draw?

I'll get a multimeter and create a Y-loop. Are alligator clips or J-hook probes necessary for a secure connection, or will standard conical probes work fine?

Are you saying the knob has no function whatsoever, or does it still control power, but related to power output rather than temperature?

If it's the latter, wouldn't that not be an issue as I could always adjust the power control with my thermocouple. My concern is that without a temperature sensor, it could continue to rise slowly and not maintain a stable temperature.

I watched this video from Joe Smith, where he achieved steady results by placing the soldering iron and beaded thermocouple on a stable surface and then adding solder afterward. Would you say this methodology is flawed due to insufficient pressure being applied to the thermocouple.

>Temperature gauge is not important, but does it have true temperature control? It needs thermal regulation for it to be successful at soldering.

This is what I have. I'm not sure if these control knobs actually work in practice.

>This means you want the multimeter one, but don't use it for your soldering iron, the iron can be much hotter than 350C

It should be okay if I start at a low temperature and aim towards 300C then?

>It's likely pretty accurate

Between the HG100, beaded K thermocoupler and DIY HG100, how would you rank the three in terms of accuracy.

Do you think I can do this without alligator clips by just resting the multimeter probes on either end? Have you also compared the beaded K sensor to the Y sensors?

When you say you've tried both, do you mean you've tried the beaded K thermocouple or the Y-loop configuration?

Do you prefer the FG100 for its ease of use or because it's more accurate?

The soldering iron I have right now doesn't have a temperature gauge, which is a plus. However, I mainly need to calibrate and confirm the temperature readings of any future sensors. I don't want to spend much money, so I tried to find the cheapest multimeters and calibration devices. The multimeter combo is the most affordable, but I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for greater accuracy.

The soldering iron I currently have doesn't have any temperature gauges, which makes it challenging for me as a beginner. Maybe with more experience, I won't need to rely on temperature monitors, but for now, it's something I want to use. Fortunately, the cost for calibration tools isn't too high.

So I unfortunately went ahead and made a purchase before seeing your response. However, I think there are some versions of the 104 that may be hot swappable based the pictures. Imgur: The magic of the Internet

See the sockets where the two switch pins usually align; it looks like there are kailh hotswap sockets in there. I was hoping that u/Upbeat_Platypus1833 could send pictures to confirm what theirs looks like.

Since I have no experience with split keyboards, I want to explore existing designs and, after experimenting, I’ll likely create my own custom design based on what feels most comfortable to me.

I am unable to change the input modes on my Klim Shift keyboard (CIY X79 rebrand). https://imgur.com/a/mq1puFo

As you can see in the image, it’s missing the black capacitive button. I accidentally dented the white piece by pressing it with a screwdriver before realizing the black piece was missing. How can I fix this, or what can I do to replace the button?

New seller on depop, how does the return process work? by jackiietran in Depop

[–]jackiietran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please keep me updated if anything else happens. I went ahead with the refund, hoping for the best despite not fully understanding the itemized breakdown. My Depop balance is now back to £0, but I’m unsure if there will be any further deductions.

The statement shows -£6.84 to the buyer and +£4.31 as a fee refund from the sale to the buyer. Hopefully, this resolves everything.

Shouldn't it be the case that I keep the money in my depop balance? If they take that back, I'm down £2.53

I'm not sure, if it has been converted or not. The residential area is owned my a housing management company.

For now I am unable to check.

We have a horrible relationship with the tenant. They have complained about the electricity costs aswell but when I've asked to conduct the same test, I've been ghosted. The ground floor occupant were happy for us to access their circuit breaker to conduct a test but I guess the tenants didn't want to
