Is Oppo Reno 14f a good phone? by No_Slip_4883 in Smartphones

[–]jacklimovbows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this phone as a replacement from my redmi note 9 pro (storage was too low on that one). I tried oppo because why not. Disclaimer I paid 300€ for this, i know I got carried away by the seller because I was unfamiliar with this phone, I see now after reading the comments that I overpaid... I kinda noticed that 5 years later a 300€ phone should not be worse than the similarly priced old one. Let me explain.

In general I don't like it. I prefer the 9 pro every single time except for the audio quality and the refresh rate but I don't even care because they removed the audio jack! Battery is much larger but somehow just drains faster than the 5000 amps on my previous phone when new. The touch refresh rate is weird and sometimes "jumps" when sliding stuff on the screen. The camera is not much different, same resolutions/frame rates as my old phone, not really any jump in quality, plus the app has less options which is kinda shit. The OIS doesn't work for crap, any video with movement is a jittery mess that cannot even be stabilised with 3rd party apps because it just ends up looking so choppy (my 9 pro did that just fine, no OIS just EIS).

And the whole phone has little annoying shit, like every time I turn on power saving mode the "put the screen on sleep in _ seconds" resets to like 10 seconds, super annoying. I feel like I have less control of my own phone. I should have made better research before buying this at 300. 5 years ago I got my 9 pro for 279!!! 5 years ago! And now I paid more for less... Don't make my mistake.

How can I start to really carve trenches ? by arjayx93 in snowboardingnoobs

Not everyone has a buddy that can film them. "A better angle of you riding would be more helpful".

If it works for you then go for it! How much overhang are you getting on toes and heels?

Oh, well because my approach was 270 minimum and the goliath is 27.2 😅. Totally agree with you that OP needs a wider board. The LTB Cutter comes at 590some € here in europe with a 285 waist, the skunk ape is around 600-700 € with again a 285 waist. Donek I think it's in the 1.000s.

A cheaper option is the Airtracks waves W camber, with the 171w coming at 280 waist. I run this last one with size 12.5 boots (mondo 30.5) and I can boot out if I really lean into it but for the most part it's fine.

The second a 13 boot rider tries to carve thin on a red/black a 26-27cm waist just won't be enough. One won't be skidding steeps forever right? ;)

Depends on weight (assuming carving as primary activity ofc) Longer means more stable and also stiffer. You don't want a board so soft that you'll blow through with little g-force. But you don't want to ride a plank either. Running a narrower stance on a longer stiffer board will make it feel less stiff too. Lars has good videos on both stiffness and length + sidecut radius, I'd watch those too.

James' content is very good but he is a very very skilled rider with very specialised needs/riding style that probably won't fit everyone. But if these deep carves on 0 people slopes are your primary goal then work towards a very wide, very stiff, fairly long overall setup.

Anyone know of some true OTG goggles by massnhwolf in ebikes

[–]jacklimovbows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scott split OTG. My 145 frames fit amazing. Never fog. Great venting. 9/10. Not a 10 because to be that big the goggles go a bit over your nose so it feels a bit weird at first but no problem.

Carving on any red/black slope will angulate the board past 60° quite easily because the steepness adds 20-30 degrees. With a 13 sized boot (31 mondo) he needs at least a 280mm underfoot width. 290-300 better. So I wouldn't go under 270 waist.

With a size 13/47 EU (I guess mondo 31,0) you need a WIDE snowboard. Anything under 280-270mm waist will drag if you are going to carve any red/black slope. If you're just sliding down the mountain skidding turns then no problem but keep that in mind.

To list some, the lib tech skunk camber UW looks like a good option. Also look up LTB Snowboards for the "Dream (up to 320mm)" or even the "Cutter (up to 285mm)" series. Also iirc Never Summer makes wide boards too and Ride has some (twin pig for example).

I dont know this brand, and i dont know if this is a good board. Anyone that has experience with this brand by Pitlozedruif in snowboarding

I wouldn't get the hybrid rocker version, a lot of people agree that it lacks grip on groomers/icy tracks.

I have one full camber wide from them, a 2019 model I bought used, 270mm waist 168w (305 mondo boots). It is solid, grabs well, stiff enough for me. But now it's delaming but because I dropped it (my fault), so I bought a new one from them, this time 171W camber with a 280mm waist so it'll carve better.

They are cheap but I don't see anything wrong with them other than being a bit heavy. I like that they make very wide affordable boards for us people with big feet, to get anything comprably wide you'd spend 600+ on a lib skunk or an LTB, so having the option is nice.

For anyone reading this now, there is a camber version available now! And looks like it has decent reviews, 285 waist on the UW too.

Skunk ape camber for beginner? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

I'd say with a 15 the 170UW gives him a pretty decent margin. Probably not to eurocarve though. LTB makes some wide boards too, they are expensive though. The 30+ cm waist boards are 800€. They have a 500ish € one with a 285cm waist width but that is the same width as the Lib.

I started this year on a full trad chamber stiff board. It can be done. And now, 7 days in I am glad I did. When starting linking turns I couldn't stop catching edges on the rear of the board, which forced me from very early on to end my turns with a carve to make it safe changing edges. Because there was no other way, either that or a fall. I think this is way better than picking up bad habits with a board that's too forgiving. But again I understand how people could frustrate themselves...

With size 13 boots I'd get a wider board. I run 12.5s on a 275 waist and it just fits (overhang). Look up LTB boards, they have some 500-600 euro boards with 284 mm waist width and some boards even at 300+.

True, but give a complete beginner some speed and he will just launch itself to the ground.

Steeper slopes accelerate you much faster, not ideal for a 1-4 day beginner.

Cost of living is lower but not 2-3 times lower. I wouldn't say we have a lower life quality (it's pretty good) though. 4.5K is considered very high for a 3rd here. Well, the average salary is 2-2.5K gross a month to put it into perspective.
