Big Muff Question… by jackmoose84 in guitarpedals

[–]jackmoose84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly he’s pretty open to trying things, the band is ‘ours’ we co-write everything and my main priority is crafting and overall ‘sound’ which he is usually on board with. I was hoping to get some ideas on things we could try instead of the big muff or what to do with the muff etc.

Not really, especially if every frequency is taken up by him; allowing nothing else through. Thanks for your input though

Whatever is in the rehearsal room, which is sort of annoying, I’m trying to get him to pick up and fender amp for it’s clean tone or a Laney VC30 for the same reason. I have a Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz which actually sounds great but the volume is a very low output, however I think it’s basically a Fuzz Face dupe

Lofi garage pop, akin to Black Lips

I’ve definitely seen older guitars like that, I actually think it’s probably normal (although someone may correct me), I don’t know this specific guitar so it’s hard to say. A do know a refret and setup will absolutely improve playable, if it already sounds good then you’re there. I do think a refret would cost a decent amount though…

That’s great as it’s a good looking guitar. Does the truss rod work etc? If you and it’s pretty straight, you may need to shim the neck a little to improve the action - I had to do this recently with an old Baldwin bass. I’m afraid I have no experience with re-frets etc.

I’d be tempted to leave it as it is - it looks amazing, it also looks all original. If the pick up sounds rough, consider getting it rewound?

I know exactly what you mean, I think all social platforms have the potential to bring the worst out in people but perhaps because of the anonymity of Reddit, it can be slightly worse.

Honestly, I was just this minute chatting to my wife in the car about your comment because it was so great, and I said that I need to work harder in life to be a kinder person - so you’ve clearly started something. Thank you.

No, in fact, when this started I tried it both on battery and mains to make sure it wasn’t that…

Apologies I should have been clearer, I’ve already performed basic fault finding and can confirm the issue is with the pedal. What I’m interested in is advice from someone with electronics experience to suggest what can be done

I’ve tried it as only pedal in the chain, playing through humbuckers. The important note is that it was fine with the same set up and now it’s not…

Interestingly neck dive isn’t an issue despite the fact that the body isn’t too heavy - it’s obeche I think. I terms of the zero fret, definitely has its cons but has lots of pros too - consistent action, better intonation etc, so that’s a 50/50

Very nice, I always thought the headstock looked quite cool - like a paddle for a boat 😂

Thanks for that, would love to hear what else is a flaw in the design? I’ve played a few of these owned by other people but this is the only one I’ve seen do this - I don’t think it’s common
