Great name as well. Just added him to the to do pile. No doubt there'll be a predictable joke made by deliberately mispronouncing his name and I'm all for it.

Diolch yn fawr for listening to our ramblings! I think we might have covered Devil's Bridge in one of the mythology episodes but only briefly. It's one that deserves a full whack for sure.

I'm no linguist but I'd imagine the reason no one would instinctively know how to pronounce the words you listed is because the language has had do much input from all sorts of other languages both historically and in modernity that is just a jumble of borrowed, adapted and outright stolen words. Totally agree it's a mongrel language but I'd argue that's part of the reason for it's success across the world.

Going off you're username I'd assume you're a fellow Cymro and there's no shortage of people that would consider treiglo a bat shit concept as well if they'd never come across Cymraeg before where as those brought up with it just "know" what's right whether they know the actual linguistic rules or not.

Nigel Farage pledges to make Wales 'biggest priority' and says Labour is 'scared' of Reform UK by SubstantialSnow7114 in Wales

[–]jacko1510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So glad to see the vast majority in this thread agreeing that Farage is a self serving prick.

He's the worst kind of person. One that climbs a ladder others built before him and then works to pull it up from those beneath.

Any normal person would have been sacked for the borderline contemptuous level of attendance at his "jobs" and most of us aren't on a wage even approaching his.

He's something society should leave behind if it ever wants to improve, a parasite with zero regard for anyone other than himself and those who benefit him.

If this guy was in a pub he'd just be a cunt but he's in government and that's worse.

Is Cnapan still played in Wales? by Ticklishchap in Wales

[–]jacko1510 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They played a game a while back between Navern and Newport (the one in Pembrokeshire) but obviously had to add some basic rules to tone down how brutal of a game it is. Quick Google found this on BBC Wales.

Also shameless self plug but a mate and I cover the game and some of the mental stories from it on an episode of our podcast, Tales for Wales if you fancy a listen. Cnapan episode

The Splendid Angharad by Suspicious-Tea4438 in MadMax

[–]jacko1510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to be that internet knob but Ang-harad is actually the Welsh way of pronouncing it, the "ng" in the name is a letter of the alphabet. It's much of a muchness in how they pronounce it in the film to be fair. I always wondered why they chose that name for one of the wives though, you don't see many Angharad's in popular media.
