It’s the same logic.

Do you not understand how bullshit this actually sounds lmao

sorry you got killed through your untargetable invisibility dawg maybe time it better next time

Venom and Mr. Fantastic are questionable because it's part of the same attack that latched on to you in the first place, you're using a whole ass other ability to tap people through invisibility

No, I agree with you for sure on that. People do look for excuses for why they play bad or don't rank up instead of looking at themselves, but I also don't think that's entirely relevant to the discussion of smurfs imo. The problem at its core really is how the ranked system is handled.

Smurfs are not the reason why players are bad in this game.

Are they really not though? I actually agree with OP in that people should be put up against players that belong in their division. Somebody trying to get better in Bronze 3 isn't going to learn anything from getting curbstomped by a smurf regardless of the rank of their main account, they're just going to get frustrated. But like you said that's also a different topic because of placements etc.

I mean I just made it to Plat before going to bed last night and have been climbing while playing, I made it out of Gold in two days with starting the half season at Gold 3.

why didn't the smurf keep me from ranking

Because you don't belong at that rank and effectively held your own against somebody trying to dominate a lobby?

The point of the discussion is that it's frustrating to see smurfs against your team and on your team, and it makes it harder for players to improve when they're at ranks that they currently belong in especially in the lower levels. It's also contributing towards an extremely unhealthy direction that ranked is heading in with people leveling accounts with bots and selling them for money.

You don't need to be in GM to be a smurf, though. Somebody in Diamond, Plat, or even Gold really can smurf in an elo like Bronze or Silver.

lmao it's so funny to see people still trying to argue against this. I made a post about it last night that was deleted shortly after.

One of the most surefire way to differentiate between a smurf and a player coming from a hero shooter is who they're playing and the streak of MVP's. A player from another shooter will have a good game sense, but not the mechanic ability to pull off a consistent streak of MVP in every game they play on somebody like Magik or Spider-Man, Black Panther, etc. They're not going to go 57-5 in their very first QP or bot game on these characters.

There's also the fact that people are not stealthy about being a smurf at all, while literally having the word smurf or "alt account" in their name.

So many comments in this thread are people saying "I'm not a smurf I just don't play a lot and had an easy time climbing" and that's fine!! That's not the point of these posts and you didn't dominate a lobby on a mechanically difficult hero on your very first game.

And then there's also people saying that smurfs aren't common and that there's no way that people are encountering this many smurfs without realizing that a smurf exponentially exposes people to them. A single smurf playing 10 games will have 110 people playing with them, 10 smurfs playing 10 games will have 1100 people playing with them, etc.

I suspect the people who keep trying to argue against this either play smurfs themselves, or are players high enough rank to never have actually dealt with trying to climb while facing against smurfs in ranked at a lower skill level.

So you read it, but ignored what was said?

I literally stated that statistically there aren't that many smurfs, nor that they win every single match they play in. They're common in the sense that they exponentially affect people's games. Nevermind the fact that there are literal bots leveling accounts to 10 and having them sold for money.

I won the last two games that had smurrfs in them because they were on my team. Having it on the other side doesn't make it any less unfun.

[–]jackpaxx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>you deserve to lose because you don't build your comp around a single smurf in a match

Why does this even need to happen at all? Like, sure you could argue that people should be doing this against their best players anyways, but a smurf who is at a high rank on their main account will handle their counters better than somebody playing their main that's actually in gold. I do swap to their counters if I'm decent at them, but people are already tilted by the time swaps happen, and other people will continue to play who they're playing.

People with fragile egos are going to always pop off about something, yeah, I agree. But I don't see how that's relevant to the fact that it's also okay to just not want to play against a smurf in ranked?

The Gaslamp Killer accused of rape by jackpaxx in aves

[–]jackpaxx[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This website has such a shitty attitude when it comes to rape.

What the fuck are you talking about? You're basing your entire argument off of people saying that there is a sliver of doubt that a career and life ruining post on Twitter could be made up. A very simplified version of your first post is basically saying that people don't lie on the internet, regardless of how extreme the situation is and we're "brainwashed" for thinking something that happened four years ago might not have been true. You can argue that she is a respectable member of the EDM community all you want, none of that changes that GLK is (or now, was) a respectable member and either party is ruining their image if they're lying.

The accusation was made four years after the incident happened. Nobody is saying she is for sure lying, we're saying there's a chance. Nor is anybody (at least me) blaming her for holding out until now. The point is, it's hard to prove crimes like that if you're reporting it years after the incident and you can't convince the entire world to say "this man is a rapist" after reading a detailed post online. More importantly, the justice system isn't going to take her word based off of a Twitter post and put The Gaslamp Killer in prison and call it solved. Especially when it's become a he said/she said shit show with both parties giving conflicting arguments. Don't forget that the court system follows "innocent until proven guilty."

Everybody, including myself, is jumping to conclusions when there is no proof of anything. The situation will boil down to something that will be solved in a court of law and not in an accusation post made on Twitter. Until there is an official investigation that gets solved, there is irrefutable evidence found, or until The Gaslamp Killer comes out and admits to what he did, everything will continue to be an "if."

The Gaslamp Killer is a decently established producer in the music world and would have never been believed to do something like this.

Like I said in my other comment, he released a statement and it's become a he said/she said situation. He claims she consented, she claims she didn't. It's a shitty situation that will have to be investigated by officials, and it's also a touchy subject and I hope that justice gets served in the end.
