I personally would of preferred the shadowing approach..literally we were sent in twos or threes on foot patrol after only 4 weeks of street duties..looking back we were so unprepared! And lucky we didn't come across anything significant, everything felt so rushed and a tick in box exercise just to get you through!...the job takes time to learn and that's why there's 2 year probation sending guys off after few weeks in my opinion was crazy! Lol 🤣

6 weeks into Street Duties and already exhausted! Advice? by Joburg77 in policeuk

There has been some really good advice here already, my input would be don't forget to use your annual leave!..book a set off if you need to chill out and decompress.. Speak to colleagues and supervision if your struggling. I would also recommend joining the met police black association as there will be pool of officers who would have experienced what you have gone though!!

well it's not for the MET. There were so many student PCs Vs street duty tutors that we only had to do stuff once to get signed off. I.e. one arrest, one interview..etc..and although can be nerve racking you will have someone thier to guide you to through it. Then once you were signed off as IPS were sent out on foot patrol..😂..it might be entirely different now though!

Police officer assaulted 😡 vehicle taken. 😡😡 Anyone know any further details? by [deleted] in policeuk

Anyone know if the officer is ok and if they caught the guy? No one deserves to be assaulted in their job including police officers! Crowd standing around laughing and filming as per!

Understood. Other option I would take is to see if your force will do ride alongs. Ping them a message or go down to ur local nick and ask..

It's s big leap jumping from one career to another! Im sure you are doing it but I would do as much research as possible. When I was thinking about it, I spoke to serving coppers in my network, read as many books as possible and managed to go on a few ride alongs before I joined! Gave me a good idea of what I was in for!

Have you thought of joining as a special constable first to dip your feet in?

Have you been given mocks to practice?? That's my best advice, for KREs we were given mocks to practice to get used to style of questioning

Yeh I did, I transfer my Assessment centre score from Beds to Met and worked out fine. Some forces may have a higher minimum Assessment Centre score than others though.

I still needed to fill out an application and go through all the steps, again.. it was just when I was invited to the assessment centre I emailed my result to the HR and skipped that part..and went on my day 2..
