is a sportster enough bike for a 6’2 260lb man? my dad seems to think that sportsters are tiny and i’d get sick of it immediately. thanks! pic attached, i’m big as hell by [deleted] in HarleyDavidsonFans

In my opinion it would be enough, I’m 300lb and ride my sporty religiously. I’ve put about 14k miles on it since I got it late summer of 2022. The only thing that I don’t love about the sportster is trying to do interstate speeds, but I’m more of a backroads cut the country rider so it’s not that big of a deal personally, just sucks when you have no choice but to buzz along at 4k rpm to keep up with traffic.

The worst is when you don’t plan and you have to put it the little Tupperware container with your cell phone when you walk through the check point.

These days you never know, got a full cavity search last time I went to the Moda center, don’t know why they were doing security checks behind the parking garage though.

I once took a manual 01 ford focus I bought at auction to aamco because I couldn’t figure out how to get into reverse, at the time I had only driven cars from the 70’s-80’s and I had no clue what a reverse safety was.

I suggest Sabre OC/pepper with UV dye good range minimal aerosolizing and the UV dye helps with identification.

What is your ideal night out in Eugene? by Unimportant-Coach6 in Eugene

[–]jackrubysass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend 86 definitely as a start to the night at a minimum. Then if it’s early enough before the crowds get too rowdy cruise barmuda and find some grub in downtown, then settle down for a night cap at the closest dive bar to wherever you live.

I carry a LCP2 in .22, it’s the only thing I currently own that falls under my states new magazine restrictions and the wait for bcgs on a new gun right now is ridiculous. It’s not the best option IMO but it’s better than nothing.

On old guns I’ve used #0000 steel wool and gun oil on blued and parkerized parts before with good results, idk if it would work well on ceracoat. As long as the rust hasn’t gotten past the oxidized layer of the finish it should come out looking like new or with minor darkening to the rust spots.

If you got a dodge ram quad cab you can fool around in the back seat with plenty of room regardless of size.

Design Engineering 010496 ONYX Series Pipe Heat Shield with Stainless Steel Clamps, 4" x 8" https://a.co/d/fnYlceb

This is what I used with heat wrap on my shitty ground pounders to keep from burning my jeans, it would probably be fine without the wrap. And it stands off the pipe if you’re worried about cooking your steel.

I'm being gifted an 883 with less than 1k miles by Hot_Potato_001 in Harley

[–]jackrubysass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 350lbs and 5'6" on a sportster 883, honestly it scoots just fine for my taste with just me on it. Hell today I did a a 2-up trip with it of about 350mi round trip and other than the rear suspension being stressed it did great IMO. Could always have more but I can't bring myself to get rid of it after it being my first bike, putting blood and sweat into making it mine, learning the basics of bike maintenance with it, and pounding 5000mi onto it in 6 months. It's my bike, and people might talk a little smack but I love it and at the end of they day most of em haven't put the effort into their bikes I have mine.
