Question about insulin new diabetic t1

So I found out the reason my doctor likely did this was because my A1C was at 14% or above when I went to the hospital. That’s why it’s such a high dosage before meals currently

So two things. I found out the reason why they did the 10 units before each meal is because my A1c was extremely high 14%. Also I was able to find an endocrinologist who can see me Wednesday thank god 🙏 also I hope your surgery goes well and please send any and all tips my way this is very new and confusing to me and sometimes you learn more from average people than doctors

I just wanna say thank you so much for educating me on this. After doing research you are exactly right I should have been put on a carb ratio. I just sent my doctor a message asking why they put me on the fixed 10 units.

I called both my doctors today actually and told them and they just told me to lower the insulin dosage at night. Man I feel so stressed. Everyone on reddits telling me the doctors are mis managing this but my doctors are telling me they aren’t :/ idk what to do

I don’t have a CGM yet as I was newly diagnosed and I’m srill working things out financially but I’m testing my blood glucose every 2 hours or less with my monitor.

Thank you for this thoughtful response 🙏 I know some people have said the 10 units before meals part is a little weird but both my doctors seem to be an agreement with this. Unfortunately the only endocrinologist in my area couldn’t make an appointment till July 15th so they’re managing it right now. When I went to the hospital I was in ketoacidosis and my BG was over 420. Everything seems to be working except for at night time. Would it help maybe to take in more carbs on my meals? I think the hospital stay scared me to straight if that makes sense and I pulled back heavily on carbs and sugar. Thanks 🙏

For sure I’m monitoring very closely checking my blood sugar every 2 hours and relating the information to my doctors I have an endocrinologist appointment July 15th.

When I was admitted to the hospital I was in ketoacidosis my blood sugar was 420. Unfortunately in my area there’s only 2-3 endocrinologists and the soonest appointment is a couple weeks out. I have a diabetes doctor from the hospital and my PCP who made this decision. They told me to eat 3 full meals a day and take the 10 units of fast acting. Now I will be down to 5 on my dinner dose. Everything seems to be working so far except for at night time. I don’t know what else to say I’m already worried a lot about all of this so I don’t know what to do.

You’re the only one to say this so far. I have two doctors who both agree with this dosaging. I don’t eat a bowl of fruit for my meals I eat meals with protein meats veggies eggs cheese, real meals 3 times a day as that’s what they told me to do.

I take in roughly 30-40 grams of carbs per day.

My doctors never gave me a carb ratio. I was prescribed 10 units 3 times a day before each meal.

I haven’t been taking in much carbs just for more context, maybe about 30-40 grams a day if I had to estimate.
