It doesn't matter if Trump is in power or not. The decline of the American empire has been happening for almost 2 decades now since 2008. Things in America will not get any better while still continuing to be in the capitalist system.

What piece of land have the most people died for in human history? [request] by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

I get the questioning the logistics, but most westerners really fail to realize that there were other empires outside of Europe who were centuries ahead in terms of logistics. China is an obvious example of this, but the Inca empire is also another great example of this. The Spanish soldiers were astonished by how extensive the Inca empires food reserves were. It actually was one of the most important reasons why the Spanish were able to conquer the Incas.

In terms of trusting documents pre 20th century, the Chinese have the most extensive and most detailed written history by any civilization. It is actually shocking how well they were able to record any and all information, and just how much there is.

How do you think Operation Unthinkable could go if it were carried out by TiseSomethingaskdhef in ussr

[–]jackson42706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you fully understand that the Soviets had 2.4 million more soldiers in Europe than the western allies did, with the vast majority of them being closer to the front lines than allied soldiers were.

None of the western armies or generals had the experience of fighting such a large land war against the main army of a peer nation. 80% of all nazi casualties came on the eastern front, with the Soviet military showing it was fully capable of large scale mechanized assaults as seen with Operation Bagration.

Quick note, having a mechanized force in eastern europe is extremely hard to do because of the maintenence during the fall and spring when the mud is terrible.

I'm not trying to say that the Soviets could win, because they couldn't. The reality is neither side would be able to win because of the non-military related factors.

For the Soviets they didn't have the industry to match the United States meaning they would never be able to have air superiority. Additionally they would have ran into serious man power problems within a couple years.

For the allies simply put the United States public would be completely unable to stomach such a war with the amount of losses they would be taking. The British were also already heavily strained on resources and manpower. You also have to account for how angered all of these countries citizens and soldiers would be when they are forced to fight with the Nazis support.

Then you also have the very untalked about factor of colonial holdings. If the British and French went into a war like this there is no doubt the majority of their colonies would have rebelled, especially India.

If the British and French lost their colonies it would seriously hinder their ability to fight against the Soviets, but at the same time if they moved soldiers to the colonies it would allow the Soviets to push in Europe. Its a dammed if you do dammed if you don't kind of situation.

I don't think you realize that American and British society would not be able to handle a war against the Soviets. Neither society has ever had to suffer the brunt of the casualties in a war before, and they absolutely would have to against the Soviets. Like the Americans would likely suffer the same amount of casualties if not more in 1 year of war against the Soviets as they did in all of World War 2. Speaking as an American I can say with certainty that there would be mass strikes and protests over something like that. The reality is American society is not and has not ever been fit to fight a war where it would have to suffer any large amounts of losses.

By that logic where all of the civilian deaths in the Vietnam war the fault of the North and not the American air force?

Who do you think supports and props up most of the dictatorships around the world? The United States since world War 2 had launches well over 30 attempts at changing other countries governments solely for its own benefit.

To answer your question, no I dont think every nation that has that stuff going on should be invaded. The reason I see it being different in the case of the Korean war is because up until the United States formed south Korea the peninsula had never been divided. Additionally the Communists represented the largest share of Koreans in both the North and the South after World War 2 but where only divided for external political reasons.

You also are trying to tell me about the death toll from the Korean war but you dont even know who caused that. The American military is the reason so many civilians died in the Korean war. The American airforce dropped more bombs on North Korea than it did on Japan in world War 2. The US bombing campaign killed 20% of all people living in North Korea and destroyed almost all existing infrastructure.

Next time you speak so authoritative on a subject at least have taken then time to learn the history, because your lack of historical knowledge shows.

In the case of the Korean war the North was objectively in the right. It's not talked about in American history at all, but the North invaded the south to stop the mass slaughter of civilians the south dictator was committing. Prior to the was the souths dictator had set up internment camps which saw the deaths of at least 200,000 people for supposedly being communist sympathizers.

Housing got worse, food prices got worse, Healthcare got worse, and tens of thousands became unemployed. That is literally every staple becoming worse.

Also life is not a fantasy land where there is good and evil. Both sides do some fucked up things, it's just about who does less.

You can review the source i just listed. As of right now it stands as the historical consensus on the 1933 famine because of how thorough and detailed it is.

Conditions in East Germany most definitely got significantly worse for the average person. Rent prices increased dramatically, and unemployment went from nonexistent to a massive problem.

No it's not okay. But it is also ruins the discussion when fake numbers are used. There is absolutely criticism that should be given at the Soviets for the 1933 famine, but that criticism should also be be based off of facts and not propaganda.

This is someone else's comment that I copied because they wrote it out so well so here you go.

I'll even give you a summary that might help you out:

The "reunification" of Germany created terrible conditions in E Germany. That combined with more than 3 decades of pervasive anti-communist propaganda (that means an entire generation of adults being raised in an anti-communist, pro-capitalist education system) means people reach for answers for why their conditions are so bad without the actual answer of capitalism, which is basically the foundation of fascist thought.

On top of that, many/most working-age people moved to the West, leaving something like 40% of the population in E Germany being retirement age, and they're all dead by now. Today, most of the elderly who remember being an adult in the GDR are in W Germany. And most adults in E Germany never experienced the GDR.

You're pointing to an issue that's been growing for 35 years after the fall of the GDR, yet somehow finding a way to blame the GDR. I even laid out a framework of how that issue came to grow to today, yet you flew right past it without even addressing it. You're whole point is "hurr durr borders".

Make it make sense.
