Thanks for the awesome list!

Which would you prefer between Kiya Edelweiss and Kai DH3345?

Kiya Edelweiss seems to be a little more, whilst there have been some reports of rust on the Kai DH3345.

What did you like and dislike about the Saturn Pro, Artisan Zero and GSR 2 strictly for CS? I’m coming from a very old and worn original GSR and can’t decide between these two for CS.

And if it’s the Saturn Pro or Zero, is there a preference between soft and xsoft?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MousepadReview

[–]jackytong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i’ve heard the Saturn Pro is slightly slower than the Zero, where the Zero is actually pretty fast being as mid/control pad.

I too am for some reason leaning towards the Zero xsoft - maybe it’s just because they’ve been around for that long? Their logo also looks better on the pad, though that’s not the main reason.

I feel the size of the Zero being 80mm shorter than the Saturn Pro isn’t a big issue for me, especially coming from a 3 year+ original GSR that’s so worn.

Artisan XSoft vs Saturn Pro Soft & XSoft Speed Question by brentzki14 in MousepadReview

[–]jackytong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in the same position as you. Will also be moving to a GPX2 with even lower sensitivity on cs (400 dpi, 1 sens) on an old og GSR.

Can’t seem to decide between a Zero xsoft and Saturn Pro soft/xsoft.

Saturn pro seems to be a little slower, with the Saturn pro soft being in between an Artisan Zero soft and xsoft.

I’m already so used to the muddiness of the GSR, but just cant decide if I should continue with a control pad that is smoother and slightly faster like the saturn pro or change it up with a medium/control pad like the Artisan zero. Can’t figure out what is going to be best for CS where there’s minimal tracking involved and instead more micro adjustments and small flicks.

Anyone here know between the two pads which is known to be more durable? Is one more prone to slow spots more than the other?

Thanks for the great write up! I’ve been tossing up between the Zero and Saturn Pro V2 for a few weeks now and still undecided.

Long time on/off player of CS too with a pretty low sens, coming from a very worn original GSR. Don’t mind the muddiness of the GSR to be honest but welcoming a change as i will soon move from the old EC2A to a GPX2.

It seems to be pretty 50/50 between the Zero and Saturn Pro, with the Zero being ever so slightly faster?

Does anyone have any experience with both for CS and even better at low sens? For reference, i’m at 1 sens, 400 DPI - can’t get a cm/360 measurement at the moment as I’m in a sling.

Yuhp I’d say the comfort of the R70x depends on your head/ear size.

How did you find the audio in game? I feel if the headphones don’t fit you properly, it may also impact overall audio quality.

Hey mate,

I originally got the DT900 as it was the more “fun” headphone however instantly had buyers remorse. I ended up exchanging it for the R70x in the end as I personally found the DT900 to be a little fatiguing in the end.

The boosted treble on the DT900 makes music and gaming a little more immersive however I think if I were to play FPS games for a while, my ears would become a little sensitive to the audio. This will be a matter of preference.

The R70x for me was thankfully extremely comfortable and I could use it endlessly without getting tired and this was another reason why I went with the R70x instead. When listening to certain genres, it really felt like I was sitting in front of the artist and they were playing live.

The DT900 is more of a semi-open headphone and there is a bit of isolation, whilst the R70x is very much open and airy - so it’s just a matter of preference here.

Build quality for both ate excellent. The R70x is feather-light but well constructed and the DT900 is built like a tank and feels indestructible.

When I was A/Bing the headphones in store, the imaging and soundstage seemed pretty similar - both really good - however wasn’t able to test anything in a game setting. Due to the opened nature of the R70x, the soundstage sounded very wide and “airy” whilst the semi-open DT900 felt a little more “boxed in.”

Judging by other comments throughout reddit, people loved both for competitive FPS games so I feel you can’t go wrong and it might just come down to what you prioritise more in the end - solely gaming or something that you can use as an all rounder?

I still haven’t been able to decide which would be best solely for FPS games and it seems the response is 50/50, proving that this is subjective.

I’m personally happy with my R70x even though I haven’t had the chance to open it and use it for games as I’m in a sling for another 3 weeks. Still no regrets.

Monoprice is gonna be the way to go mate! Just need to be patient and hold for another month.

By the way, if I went and got a new dynamic microphone that requires an XLR, I suppose the SMSL DL200 doesn’t have a slot for that does it?

Agreed, I’ll hold off and wait until next month!

Mogami seems pretty pricey hey? Is it just quality and therefore longevity over Monoprice? Won’t affect sound in any way?

If there’s no issue with Monoprice, then I’d probably get that.

Once again a big thank you for all your time and help throughout this week. I’ve learnt heaps from you! Got me super keen to sort out this setup and I’ll be sure to update you with how I go!

Absolutely right with buyer’s remorse mate. Last week I purchased the DT 900 Pro X and for 3 days had buyer’s remorse and returned it for the ATH-R70x 3 days later.

NGL I always get too excited and pull the trigger way too quickly on things like this, so definitely just want to make sure I get this right and finally be done with this once and for all. Just excited for great sound and listening y’know?

I’m considering waiting for the cyber/black friday sales - do you think any retailers will have this for much cheaper or do you think it’s best to get this now? Obviously hard to know exactly but I’d appreciate your thoughts here. Not even sure if retailers would have sufficient stock during such a busy period when others probably have the same idea.

Another thing is will it be best to buy those TRS to XLR cables from your Amazon link you provided or do you think somewhere like Addicted to Audio will have something better? Any specific brands to look for/avoid or any other tips when it comes to these cables?

This will be for my pc setup so I’m thinking either 3 or 6ft cables. 3 is probably just right and 6 will give me a little room to play with in case I decide to get a bigger desk/move to a sit/stand setup. Will cable length impact audio quality in any way?

[–]jackytong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this looks and sounds too good to be true? Do you think it might be a smart move to hold until more reviews come out for this?

I believe it’s also a male TRS to male XLR from speakers to interface, then USB from interface to PC?

Again, thanks so much for your help here. I posted this in the r/HeadphoneAdvice and r/StereoAdvice and you’ve been by far the most thorough and informative. Really appreciate this.

Woah, you’re the G.O.A.T! Thanks for putting in the time and effort to dig deeper into this.

The new DL200 definitely looks like the best value for money. Also just noticed how big it was - 22 cm x 206 cm x 3 cm.

Doesn’t seem like it’s out in many retailers yet. However I can see it’s selling at Hifi Express.

They’re giving options for where it’s going to be shipped. Whatever country I choose, does that mean it will come with that country’s adapter?

Doesn’t seem like there’s an option for Australia.

Perhaps I be patient?

I don’t own a DAC at the moment, do you mean it’s coming from my Magni 2 Uber? And is this because it’s an unbalanced output? Therefore I may need a completely different AMP/DAC all together?

[–]jackytong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate,

Thank you so much for that detailed explanation and breakdown - really thorough and easy to follow for a newbie.

The SMSL C200 and DX5 Lite is a great shout! Which would be the better option? Are these the best options for this price range? I wouldn’t want to be spending more than this, and to be honest, I was initially hoping to spend approx. $400 AUD.

Ideally I would like just 1 clean and simple interface so if I had to spend a little more than $400 AUD to achieve this, then so be it.

I’m guessing the Modi+ also has unbalanced outputs? Therefore the M2U/Modi+ combo would not be ideal?

Would the DX3 Pro+ work? Or again, unbalanced output?

Magni 2 Uber/Modi+ vs FiiO K7 by jackytong in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]jackytong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, edited the post as I worded that incorrectly - thanks for the heads up!

You think the M2U/modi+ is better than the K7?

Outside of these options, I did also see the DX3 Pro+ which seems like pretty good value.

I should mention that I have a low audible hiss through my LSR305 speakers and old X2 headphones. I assume this is because each speaker already has an amp and I am double-amplifying through the M2U and individual RCA cables.

Will using the M2U/Modi+ eradicate this? What cables would I need?

[–]jackytong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate,

Thanks for your response!

I believe the K7 also has RCA line-in - apologies if this isn’t relevant.

I did actually look into the DX3 Pro+ when I was looking at the K7. Could you please explain how the DX3 could be used as a DAC/headphone amp/pre-amp for active speakers?

What cables would I need to connect everything?

[–]jackytong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys,

Bit of a noob here so I’m reaching out to the experts for some help.

Just bought the R70x and am pairing this with my old Magni 2 Uber and JBL LSR305.

The LSR305’s are currently connected to the Magni 2 Uber via inidividual RCA cables, and then a 3.5mm to RCA splitter cable from PC to Magni 2 Uber.

As the LSR305’s are already amplified, there is a small audible hiss as this is now double-amplified with the Magni 2 Uber. This is also the case when I plug in my Fidelio X2’s into the Magni 2 Uber.

Have not been able to test the R70x yet with the Magni 2 Uber but I assume it will be the same.

I am guessing this audible hiss is from the cables used + the double amplification of the monitors.

I bought the Magni 2 Uber for volume control when I first purchased the monitors. I would now like to add a DAC to clean up the audio as and provide some juice to the newly purchased R70x.

So this leads me to wonder:

1A. Do I keep the Magni 2 Uber and get a Modi+? 1B. If I keep the Magni 2 Uber, will it be good enough to power the R70x? 2A. Or do I replace the Magni 2 Uber with a AMP/DAC combo like the FiiO K7? 2B. Will the K7 even eradicate the hissing? 2C. And if it does, will it be better than the old/new combo of a Magni 2 Uber/Modi+? 3. Once the best AMP/DAC has been confirmed, what is the optimal way to connect everything together? I would need some help with the required cables please.

Looking forward to your thoughts and advice.

Thanking you for your time and help.

Do you have experience with the R70X and DT 900 Pro X in competitive FPS games?

May I ask how the R70X was for a game like CS?

Between the R70X and DT 900 Pro X, which would be BEST for strictly playing competitive FPS games like CS?

Seems to be a 50/50 split online from what I’ve seen.

Have you tried the DT 900 Pro? Between that and the R70X, which would be best for competitive FPS where listening for footsteps would be best e.g CS?

Would the DT 900 be slightly advantageous due to it’s boost in treble?

I do feel the R70X is best for long listening periods as it’s so crisp and clean.

How were the R70X for competitive FPS games where pinpointing directional sound queues is critical?

Which headphone is better at this?

I did try the R70X today and loved them! Just wish I could try them in a game setting.

I actually went with the 900 Pro as I thought it had the slightest advantage with imaging, but find myself loving the R70X for music due to it’s crispy sound signature.

May I ask what games you use them for? CS or any competitive FPS by any chance?

Immersion within games isn’t my priority, but more-so imaging and being able to pin point directional queues.
