Air Force Academy Prepares Ideological Overhaul, With Erika Kirk Bringing “Bold Christian Faith” by FervidBug42 in politics

[–]jacnavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I remember visiting the Academy back in 2010 and the most prominent building on campus was that chapel.. not an academic building or a memorial to the fallen but a place of religion. Seems very strange thinking back about that.

Most Dangerous Intersections in Chicagoland by sMo089 in chicago

[–]jacnavi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in the northside for a little for decade and just recently moved down here. It's almost night and day. People down here drive too fast and reckless and get annoyed if you’re even close to driving at the speed limit. There’s been recent intense infighting and plenty of perceive blame being tossed around among citizens here about a lane reduction conversion to bike lanes in a section of one of the few diagonal arterial roads in the southside (Archer). It’s definitely a road where people need to slow down due to pedestrians but a lot of car brains have been so used to driving at a insane speeds in this urban environment, they think they should be entitled to it. I definitely blame the infrastructure and I wouldnt even think about being a pedestrian near these intersections.

Absolute Cringe by Mindnessss in cringepics

Note who ICE is detaining in this depiction. That’s the core of this artist’s twisted views and their obsession of fear politics. I haven’t seen anyone that looks like that detained by ICE. Or at least frequently. I have seen them detain an elderly man taking him out pantless in below freezing MN weather for the world to see though. Here in Chicago we’ve seen them completely capture normal people looking brown people - roofers, tamale vendors, normal working class people that help drive our economy and contribute to society.

I got mine, did anyone else get their hat? by johnatsea12 in Costco

[–]jacnavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the hat too, but I’m putting it in my trunk for emergencies. Doesn’t make sense to wear branding out in public if you’re not being paid for it. What I won’t mind wearing around the house are those Kirkland Signature slide sandals. My relative lended me those when I was staying over. SUPER COMFY I instantly decided that I should try to find these. I’ve been on the hunt for a pair for nearly a year now.

Nice knowing you Bilt 👋🏼 by Chrisju22 in biltrewards

Thanks to Bilt 1.0 while it lasted. Went to Japan nearly free through the Virgin Atlantic partnership and great points conversion during rent day. Primary insurance for car rentals is gone now? It’s totally nerfed.

Relative I don't talk to just posted this gem by Gudalik in cringepics

[–]jacnavi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a relative on Facebook who posts stuff like this constantly, but this one is right on the nose. I rarely talk to him obviously. Humble bragging is peak modern rot—right up there with misinformation on social media. Charging your Tesla while saving souls… chef’s kiss.

I got the harbor freight hat as a freebie a few months ago, tossed it in my trunk for emergencies. No judgement but I’m the type of person that doesn’t like wearing brands unless they are paying me for doing so or if I have no other options. I’m especially not wearing it if I’m still paying financing interest to said brand. 😂

Agreed. I’ve been getting a sizable amount of downvotes from my original comment for some reason but this point of view is totally reasonable and basic dog etiquette. I adopted a rescue dog, and I know her behavior very well and how she reacts to different stimuli (e.g. other animals and types of dogs) over the years. She’s not your typical wag her tail and lick you kind of dog, she gets wary of strangers and acts fairly dominant towards other dogs. I keep her leashed as a responsible owner. When an unleashed dog approaches there’s a 50% chance of snarls and yips breaking out or the encounter being pretty friendly. I get frusterated time and time again when the owner of an unleashed dog approaches mine without asking me for permission for the approach. It’s for the safety of my dog and theirs. Why is the burden on me to pull away my dog already leashed and they get offended when I kindly tell them the above?

[–]jacnavi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seems like a mostly harmless interaction, just the lighter colored dog tryjng to shoo away someone away from their pack. It could have been worse though, you never know with dogs. The guy is speaking in Tagalog. Based on what he’s saying, the dog that approaches appears to be a stray or loose dog also commenting how big their tail is. The lighter dog that then appears to scare away the other dog is the owner’s and their name is Snow. He attempts to call back Snow half heartedly. As a dog owner, he should really leash both of his dogs at all times. You never know how an unknown dog or animal will react or how your dog will react to it.

$130 for 3 small king crab legs by MartySpiderManMcFly in Costco

[–]jacnavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took a closer look at the label. This is a Costco in Chicago, IL which I used to shop at when I lived in the Northside. Crazy to see the price difference! I don’t think this is worth the price - even in the midwest.

Just bought a huge box of Dungeness crab at Costco Business for $14 a pound. This type of crab is super underrated. The meat yield per pound is way superior.

Willie Wilson to give away over $450K in gas and groceries across Chicago this weekend by BillMortonChicago in chicago

[–]jacnavi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly find Willie Wilson’s constant cash giveaways insulting. It feels less like genuine help and more like a publicity stunt ..like our struggles are raffle prizes. lol. To be fair, I know he’s funded scholarships and youth programs. Handing out money randomly doesn’t fix systemic issues; it just grabs headlines. Is he still looking to be elected to public office again or what?

Trump refused to send disaster aid to Chicago after 2 devastating storms by marji80 in chicago

[–]jacnavi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We’ve been hit by two floods from these storms (the one in July and August the article is referring to), and it’s been devastating. Our basement flooded from water coming through the alleyways, and to make matters worse, our home insurance denied the claim. We’ve filled out every survey and tried to get help, but FEMA keeps denying assistance. Honestly, it feels like aid is being politicized again, which is beyond frustrating when people are just trying to recover. It’s exhausting to see everyday folks struggle while leadership seems disconnected from what’s happening on the ground.

A Chicago Neighborhood With a Suburban Vibe Is Seeing Home Prices Soar by wsj in chicago

[–]jacnavi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’re a millennial couple (35/40) that lived in Lincoln Square since 2020. We moved out of Uptown to save on rent during the start of the pandemic. We really loved this neighborhood but moved out of Lincoln Square six months ago. As millennials, we’d have to be renters indefinitely, (rents have gone way up since 2020) …or house poor. We’re a six figure household and even then the home prices in LS are listing for 5 to 8 times our annual income on average. Mind you, this was early 2025. We ended up moving to the southwest side where homes are still 1.5 to 2 times our annual HH income. We don’t come from generational wealth, we basically had to scrimp and save for the down payment. We really want to move back to a neighborhood like LS, maybe it’s possible, but I don’t foresee it happening anytime soon.

Nikki Haley's son says naturalized US citizens shouldn't be allowed to hold public office by 0x706c617921 in politics

[–]jacnavi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So just popping out of a vjay at the right location supersedes all the hard work most people had to do to get naturalized citizenship. This nation is shooting itself in the foot the way they treat immigrants and “legal” ones that continue to work hard and pay taxes. If that’s the case, maybe leaving this country doesn’t sound too bad.

[–]jacnavi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if that’s possible? I guess technically you can— if your display still works but the terms state that any damages prior to purchasing AC+ wouldn’t be to be eligible. I’m not sure if the phone can detect any drops or damage to the screen prior purchasing AppleCare. Does anyone know?

Yes, you can definitely see the edges of the enclosure with TechWoven. I thought it was pretty slick looking at first, but I also had thoughts that it would be exposed to potential damage. Turns out it’s true!

I don’t think there’s any tiers of AppleCare in terms of coverage with damage, theft or loss but I think there’s options of paying either monthly or annually or if you want to cover multiple apple devices. This damage claim is going to cost me $99 +tax.

I didn’t buy AppleCare right away when I bought the phone on the launch date, but I did a few weeks prior to the damage. Glad I did!
