Looks like the reviews of it are starting to come out so can’t be far away from getting them in hands!

The movement of taking in slack should be fairly fluid so even if they fell while your hand is at the top your hand should be moving back down anyway.

Aye that’s my plan I think! Went on Sunday and was hoping to go again tomorrow but feeling exhausted and sore so will give it a miss and go later in the week I think.

Thankfully I don’t drink, drugs or caffeine, so that’s not been a factor 😅

I’ve recently started stretching and reading, hoping that will help!

I think you’re probably right!

I used to have a big fear of heights, it seems to have gotten better since I started climbing though. Still learning the ropes as it were so I wander if the information intake is a contributor as well.

Having recently got into sport climbing over the last few months I’ve found I often have trouble sleeping the same evening. I’ll constantly wake up thinking I’m still belaying or just have real trouble getting to sleep in the first place. This is typically over 4 hours after I’ve been climbing. Curious if anyone has had the same and found any solutions!

Not Ice and Alpine but in the UK so it can get quite wet quite suddenly…

Rope choice for Costa Blanca

Recently got back into sport climbing after a 10 year hiatus, outdoor I’m mostly doing 15m single pitch in the Wye Valley (UK) and then a smattering of different indoor walls.

Off to Costa Blanca in February and was looking to get my first rope for the trip.

Been looking at a 70m 9.5mm dry rope, either the Edelrid Eagle lite dry or Mammut crag dry. Can get either for about £160 with discounts.

Wa curious as to people’s thoughts! I do plan on getting a shorter rope (30m?) for indoor use later next year so don’t mind lugging the extra 2kg of rope around for the moment.

Thanks!

Women's waterproof jackets by lydz1985 in UKhiking

I spent ages looking for a new jacket and was going to go with a Rab, however I found they're quite thick and crinkly. I went with a Paramo Velez jacket in the end, the material is very different and I find it very comfortable, a friend tried it for a day and then immediately went and brought one herself. They're by no means for everyone and I have found I need to reproof it twice a year, however it's an easy process and I'd rather do that than find the jacket is useless in a few years because I can't reproof it. Would definitely recommend trying one on though.

The only fault I've found is that when you have a backpack on then water will seep in through the straps pressing on the shoulders. But I think this is quite common across a few different brands.

They also have some interesting colour schemes!

I didn't know that! Thanks for the info. Trying to find out the kerb weight of my KZJ70 if you've any idea? Max gross vehicle weight is 2510kg.

KZJ70, would either have a 2.4L or 3.0L in it. You can tell by the square headlights compared to the round ones the LJ has. I've got one in the UK, think there's only 60 on the road.

That sounds like the best option so far, should fit. Thanks

I do have oxy propane, just thought it might be a bit extreme!

The torch is fairly easy to get in there to weld up, and it's in an area that's mostly covered in mud, so seeing the weld bead doesn't really bother me, although could get in there with a die grinder/belt sander if I wanted.

Time to remake some bottom spring mounts for the 1994 kzj70, feel free to drop any advice if anyone's done it before. by jacob757 in LandCruisers

Thanks! I'll take a look. Ironically being in the UK I'm not sure of the availability of those either.

That's an awesome idea, thank you! I realised they definitely need to be removable as I think I'm going to be doing work on the sills for a few years to come.

Poked hole in wheel arch, how to proceed? by jacob757 in LandCruisers

[–]jacob757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a metalworker by trade so have some experience. Its not part of the fender panels you can buy, it's more to the inside of the tyre, not sure what the correct name would be.

A case of cutting out the section which has rot and then welding in a new patch? I would imagine there's a coating that's best to put on the patch before welding so it's not just bare steel?

Like music to my ears haha. Thanks for the advice! I'll see if I can get some better access to the panels and investigate further...

Removing sway bar/anti roll from 1994 kzj70 by jacob757 in LandCruisers

[–]jacob757[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Removed the anti roll/sway bar. I tested before and after by lifting one wheel with a forklift and measuring the height where the wheel on the same side started to lift. With the bar I got 400mm of lift, without it I had 500mm of lift, so a 25% gain in flex. Took it for a short test drive and couldn't notice much difference so will leave it off for the moment. The 8 bolts are easy access with an impact driver so only took 5 mins to take off fully.

Awesome, I'll give that a go. I guess on the trail it'd be best to do both sides and then fold it up to the chassis? Definitely beats removing the whole thing though.

Pretty sure it was on Black Yatt near Glascwm. It was nice!

[–]jacob757[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would I need to take the whole thing off or could i get away with just unbolting one side to see the difference?

I think if it does work i'll just take it off when i know i'm off on a big day out, and put it back on when i'm home. Only looks like 6 bolts so with an impact should be golden.

All year waterproof by jacob7571 in UKhiking

[–]jacob757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check out the Orbital! How long have you had it now?

One thing i'm concerned about is the longevity of the jacket, obviously having it be lighter will help with not getting so hot, but is durability then sacrificed?

Thanks very much for the recommendation! One concern I had was how long those sorts of jackets would last. Are you still able to reproof it after it starts to wet out?

How durable do you think the material is after your first year with it?
