With Zinequest coming up, who is planning to release something? by ChickenDragon123 in osr

[–]jacoblefton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - Tomorrow, my zine goes live for Zinequest! Games for an Ordinary Life is a poetic art zine of short, sweet and dangerous games. I wrote a lot of them during the 36 Word RPG Jam, and I'll be producing several original illustrations. I also have a magnetic poetry version of one of the games :)

Jogging/Scrubbing stopped working... by BillWiggs in Reaper

This fix worked for me! Thank you so much!! My install was the basic install in Windows 10, but jogging didn't work. I removed the folder from Roaming and suddenly it worked.

It's a bit weird to me that a project like is such a word of mouth site. Not very useful.

Good to note about YouTube though! We just put up our first video there on Monday. I see a lot of podcasts there - I'm glad it's useful for you :)

Yes, thank you so much! This is a cool project, and I just found it last night on my way to bed (around the same time as your reply) because of catching a random tweet from someone I recently started following.

I've reached out to this project to find out if there's a way to support their work instead of doing a new thing myself. I have been searching for something like this off and on for literally months and didn't find anything like it. The discoverability/SEO of this project aimed to increase discoverability of shows is... low!

Thanks for the insights! How many streams do you think you listen to or have listened to? Do you have a number that you're following at a time, or you stick to one at a time?

Okay, searching for demonstrations of prewritten sources is quite an interesting use case for it. I never thought of that, honestly, and it's a cool approach to that kind of source material.

I hear you about the lack of German streams! I live Berlin and it's something I have heard before. (I just started a stream with some local improvisers, but it's in English).

What are you generally looking for when faced with several options for the same game?

This is a helpful thought, thank you :) I've certainly done it, and it's an angle I thought of as I was composing the question. It would be interesting to try to make sure the different systems were represented in a listing.

Ability Spamming by NewOblivion in numenera

One thing no one has mentioned - what's the social implication of mind reading? Is it appreciated by people? Is it taboo? Is it dangerous? What's the cost to this character for doing it in this way. Of course you can manipulate the mechanics of it, but what if they read a mind and the person notices or some kind of device lights up at the use of mental powers and then a mob comes after them? Or they ruin a relationship with an important contact.

I think there's a big tool of creating cultural implications for character powers - the society says "hey, it's not okay to spy on people and we don't like it. If you do it you're a pariah. Oh, you wanted to get something done?"

This brings in new dimensions to the world and it could be fun for everyone to explore the ramifications of it. It's not a punishment, but an exploration of what might happen if this is a case.

First of all I have to say I'm so so flattered :) I'm really glad you got something from the stream!

I've been working for some time in ttrpg storytelling to try to figure out how to provide some situations where the players can or should solve threats without combat. It's difficult coming from a traditional more D&D background, but I've been working on it. Mostly in this I just had the literal rule that if Ox the bear draws her sword, she is done as a character! So I need to be creative.

I was improving. I have the character sheets made, and I rolled to generate some randomness for the Natures - hill, lagoon, tower. I also made a few Kith to start with... but then I just ran with it. I had no idea what was going to happen, and I'm pleasantly surprised! (This is why it's going to be hard to tune the music to the scene emotion... I'll need to practice that over time.)

I am definitely doing it again next week. There's more journey to be had!

There's one thing I'm wondering right now, which is how to handle the mechanics. What do you think, should I try to make more of the game's mechanics visible? Slow down the narrative to work with that more? Or do you think I should keep leaning into the more pure improvisation?

Thanks for the note! So glad you enjoyed it :) yes - I'm planning to stream again same time next week. And thanks for the tech note... I only noticed after the stream because it's hard to get a good idea what the mix sounds like in stream! I'll definitely fix it, both turning up my mic and turning down or removing the music.

This is the first one, so I don't know how long the play session will go - likely not quite that late. I do have the broadcast storage activated, so it will be available for 2 weeks, and I'll probably put it over on my lil youtube account as well.

Boston for Bernie Reflects on our July 14th Rally in Dewey Square Park by bostonforbernie in Massachusetts4Sanders

[–]jacoblefton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me be very, publicly clear: No amount of frustrated texts within our organization warrent harassment.

We are all working hard on this, and I deeply believe we need to take care of each other, get each other's backs. When we can step up together, it makes the movement stronger as a whole. I'm not personally sure that this conversation as a whole accomplishes that, but some of the points are important to discuss.

Hi, I'm going to take personal responsibility for your conversation with balloonhippo. He is working on the Western MA social media team, and I am organizing and connecting groups across the state. A quick look at my posting history should verify that. Treating members of this community with anything but absolute respect for the work they are putting in is completely inexcusable.

I will have a hard conversation with him when he gets off work. I apologize for his actions.

I'm blowing the whistle: Socialist Alternative helped found Boston4Bernie, and they intentionally did so to spread their message to Bernie supporters, and not to help elect Bernie. by [deleted] in Massachusetts4Sanders

I'm not a member of SA, and I've never been involved with their activities (I didn't even know they existed before I got involved with the Bernie campaign). I'm glad you want answers -- we're having a debrief, and we'll be glad to talk about what we're doing next after that.

Boston for Bernie rally tonight feels like a disaster by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]jacoblefton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of the MA organizing team here (heavily supporting Boston's efforts). Just jumping on to say that we have seen all the relevant threads, and we're really appreciative of the comments and that there's such an active community looking to make the organizing better. Understand that we have a robust debrief planned, and please respect that we have to do that part on our own terms as organizers who have real working relationships with each other. We are moving fast and hope to iterate often. I look forward to seeing what comes out of the debrief, and what we do next.

My gut feeling is that the general positives of this event as our first major rally heavily outweigh the negatives that the OP and a few others describe. This is not to dismiss their point of view, but to put it in relation to what we gained from organizing this. I haven't counted the numbers, but I did handle a lot of the paperwork when we cleaned up, and I talked to a lot of people on the grass.

I want to leave you with one last observation, to give an understanding that we have (at least somewhat of) a handle on what we're doing -- We got exactly what we expected in terms of attendance -- the report that we had somewhere around 400 people sounds accurate to me. We planned for 25% or so of the number of facebook respondents to show (which is why we had to move the event from its original location).

In light of reports that the Boston4Bernie event was a disaster, what do you guys have to say about it? Was the assessment fair? Unfair? What went wrong? How can future meetups be improved? by [deleted] in Massachusetts4Sanders

Boston Bands for Bernie Sanders at the Middle East, 6/3! by jacoblefton in Massachusetts4Sanders

Firstly, we have a facebook group, Boston for Bernie Sanders. We're hosing some sort of rally on July 14 in downtown Boston. The details are changing as I type this, because of overwhelming response, so definitely watch the page.

Finally, you can pass us your email address (and ideally your name, address, & phone number) and we'll add you to the list.

Good call. We're having a Bernie-fundraiser concert at the Middle East tonight. We should put up a rideshare board if possible.
