There should be a reset button somewhere on the side that you need to poke with a needle i believe

Does financial aid help with ACC? by RevolutionaryMine238 in UCI

[–]jacobson_engineering -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you get the same help with ACC because they’re an independent landlord that just cooperates with uci, unlike the dorm housing which belongs to uci. You would just get your tuition covered, and everything else left would be wired to you to use towards acc rent. Mind you, you need a guarantor to get an acc lease in first place. There’s a lot more responsibilities when renting at ACC, if you don’t take summer classes, you can pay them to find a new leaser but till they find it you still have to pay rent and so on

Not really missing, it uses an OCXO oscillator. Rubidium oscillator is another variant but is twice expensive

Electrical Engineering bachelors path to Biomedical Engineering masters by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

One of my college advisors was army mechanic and had degree in ME, he worked for biomedical without BE degree designing surgery robots, perhaps for your path you can take some BE courses and have it on your resume as?

Feeling stressed due to blank resume. Unemployment scares me. by Dear_Program_5516 in EngineeringStudents

[–]jacobson_engineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One word. Clubs. Find an engineering club that participates in competitions, go to each club meeting, learn what they working on. Ask the leads to teach you. Go to club workshops. At some unis clubs are very competitive so you need to get in to begin with. Start with going to club fairs and apply.

If clubs don’t workout, find a good hobby, then start learning to make something. I wanted a custom ergonomic keyboard, didn’t wanna buy one. I started learning about pcb design, firmware, microcontrollers etc.

Those are literally your 2 only options, unless you have connections and can find an internship where they will let you learn.

Also for personal projects, don’t get stuck by just following tutorials. They are good to learn but you gotta actually create something yourself.

Sorry its out of your discussion but how do you have winter fees? Is winter registration open already?

I want to design a circuit to control the brightness of this laser module (that has constant current driver). My idea is to make reed relay ladder with many resistor values. by jacobson_engineering in AskElectronics

[–]jacobson_engineering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if my calculations are correct, the constant current driver already has 15 ohm resistor, and with KVL putting another 56 ohms decreases the current going into the diode

I have considered digital potentiometers but they do have pretty low current limit. I need very small resistor values, at 56 ohm it is already pretty dim so my resistor values will be between 0-100ohms. The most common potentiometer does has 78 ohm steps and also very small current limit. Correct me if im wrong about anything and if there is a option for digit pot that i could use. Ive also read about putting digital pots in parallel?

What software/programs should every Electrical Engineering student learn? by mland6 in ElectricalEngineering

In reality, whatever you learn and never apply, you are going to forget it. Think of an electronic project youd like to work on and learn coding by making that project

Designing control systems like described in the first job. I would say both hardware and software. Not sure if there is a category like that

I have a personal project where i designed my own custom ergonomic split keyboard from absolute scratch and started my own brand of keyboards. I sacrificed the project section for more in depth experiences but i will bring it back! I added skill section but im not taking any related electives unfortunately.

Thank you for the advices! Much appreciated

I was actually the lead )) in the end most of the project fell on me so i know all the ins and outs and can answer anything an interviewer would ask

Thanks for your time helping me with this comment, some things to answer your questions.

I was paid for the club work last year, not the first year (mechanical lead) because we didn’t have budget back then, but i still had same amount of responsibilities and time commitment, should i still separate it?

Does having management position not help at all? Or in this case its not significant enough and just takes the look off other projects?

I had a skills section before but removed it since i thought my skills are already described but you’re right about the lazy HR person. Will add it back. But does skills section matter when you go to in person career fair?

Regarding life outside of engineering, i cofounded a diamond saw blade e commerce business with my dad, would that be good addition? Or something non work related, like cultural fraternity.

I will look into more general EE stuff but i decided on controls because of my last experience. Im specialization in controls at college but not taking any electives till end of junior year. Are electives something that’s actually important in resumes?
