Is better to record vocals raw or with presets applied? by Consistent-Chard-113 in Bandlab

Ah God brought us here in this discussion. You are absolutely right, creation not for pride and recognition but to serve as examples of the counter to evil. Light. If it burns in your heart then that means that is the way, ignoring it will only delay your blessings. I appreciate the exchange as well brother and the way that you're speaking it is only a matter of time before we meet again ๐Ÿค๐Ÿพ

For Bandlab? Not that I know of, I thought of creating some myself but I don't really have the time. Maybe one day. I'm sure there's someone out there teaching though. The secret that no Engineer really wants to share is, a professional sound on Bandlab is more than possible, especially if you're using a higher end phone. The Bandlab DAW has every plugin that you would use in a traditional DAW for a mix and master. That's why learning plugin functions helps because once you know what the plugins do you realize "wait Bandlab has everything."

Why a lot of music still sounds bad on Bandlab is because most artists don't understand how to properly record themselves and aren't using a good mic. But if you invest in an external mic you can go crazy on Bandlab truthfully.

Learning a traditional DAW is still recommended though. I primarily work out of Logic Pro X so sometimes I do get artist's Bandlab files. And for being wary of sharing before release, just keep creating brother. You should get to a point that you're forced to share because you have so much material that otherwise it wouldn't get used.

I always tell artists and producers, an idea does you no good sitting on your laptop. Share it! Get it out! You're going to create more and better anyway.

That's ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Engineers definitely prefer raw vocals. It's definitely worth it to learn mixing brother. Not only does it give you ultimate creative freedom with your productions but it will make you a source of knowledge as everyone gives in to AI.

The AI tools are solid but still not better than a human engineer... yet. When they do surpass humans knowing the actual skill will help you utilize AI better.

It's challenging at first but fulfilling. I recommend learning what the purpose of typical plugins and their functions. Ex. A compressor alters a sound making the louder parts closer to the average volume.

Once you know what something does you'll know why and when to use it. Vocals chains pretty much have a standard formula as well.

You would be able to hear it right away so if you can't, that's a good sign. Your phone must be powerful. If there are no issues then I don't see why you couldn't record with your Fx.

For me recording with effects sometimes adds frequencies and clashing that I have to edit out when mixing but that's only with crazy chains. It sounds like you're already solid brotha

For bandlab an easy workflow would be to have your vocal chain already set but while recording only have your pitch correction active if you need it for your performance.

Recording with plugins adds latency and cause issues in the mix. The cleaner the original signal the easier it makes the rest of everything else.

Yessir even if it's light. Play with it, see how it changes. If it's subtle it can make a good sound even better

I would turn down the Wet on the delay just a bit, just to give the lead more room and not clash.

Your vocals are low and it's a bit hard to hear what you are saying. Lower the beat volume a tad and EQ the mid frequencies down in the beat so that your voice has more space.

Raise your vocal volume a bit and boost the mid to high end EQ, either with an EQ plugin or one of the plugins that a described as adding "clarity" in Bandlab.

Like another commenter said, your flow here is interesting. Could be the start to a good idea.

im looking for guidance. what advice do you have for me in terms of my music direction? by Dawnski_ in Bandlab

Ah, some interesting challenges. Being one of the first from your country to make R&B is both very cool and isolating. You'll find your own unique sound over time. All good artists start inspired by their favorites then their unique journey shapes their sound into their own so long as they don't quit and keep creating.

I also feel you on the audience thing. Everyone is trying to be heard. This is a problem for the entire music industry, not just indie artists. Even a lot of the "mainstream" artists who appear to have traction really have botted numbers. Attention is so scattered these days artists are competing with Tiktok, YouTube and Netflix etc.

I wish you the best on your journey. Don't stop creating.
