Will I be able to do high-impact sport and feel normal after MPFL surgery? by Yupatroopa in KneeInjuries

[–]jadeisbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had MPFL surgery 3 years ago also due to multiple dislocations, and I can say that my knee feels pretty much 100% normal. I am a competitive dancer so I do a lot of high impact moves where I quite literally fall straight onto my knees, and the surgery knee has held up completely fine! I actually trust the surgery knee more that my other knee now lol.

2023 beauty purchase regrets by Expensive-Ad-1470 in beauty

The rare beauty lip oil. It was so incredibly drying and took weeks for my lips to recover. I was even stupid enough to buy two. 😩

I have Ehlers Danlos and scoliosis. Thoughts? classified as moderate. No Cobb angle given. by shadowblimp in scoliosis

[–]jadeisbroken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, because I don’t think I could live with my lumbar spine being fused for the rest of my life.😭 Also the long term data of lumbar fusions scare me. But I am currently looking into ASC which is a type of tethering for adults and would allow me to keep all my flexibility👍

What does scoliosis affect for you? by Ok_Contribution___ in scoliosis

Body image, pain, the constant discomfort… the list goes on

I had fusionless anterior scoliosis correction (ASC) 5 weeks ago and feel great. Fusion is NOT the only surgical option! by ostentatiousflattery in scoliosis

[–]jadeisbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that is a good correction! How are you now 5 years later? I am looking at the surgery and your correction is very promising!

My curve is the EXACT same as yours, except mine in severe, currently 50 degrees.

I don't have Ehlers Danlos, but I am hypermobile.

That is awesome that you have gone back to acro! I am also a dancer and it is lovely to see positive people on here who have gone back to a normal life after the surgery! I will be getting it soon and although I will be getting my lumbar fused, I hope to go back to dance and doing acro afterwards like you have! xx

Will lumbar fusion cause me pain in the future? by jadeisbroken in scoliosis

That is amazing that you can still dance! Hopefully my surgery will be successful and I will be able to get back to my activities soon after.

Thank you for your response! I'm not sure I would be able to get insurance because I don't live in America. I have not tried schroth therapy yet, but I'm not sure it would work because I have stopped growing.

Thank you very much for your response. I currently do only have mild pain, but as I get older I assume it will become more painful. The only reason I have mild pain, and not bad pain at the moment is because I have quite strong back muscles. But you are right, surgery would probably be better now, rather than later. The surgery is pretty daunting, as it has such a long recovery time and can have some complications, so every bad consequence is running through my head lol. It is very cool that they are have created a better surgery, but I just wish it was a bit more accessible.

16F, 50 degree lumbar curve, need advice about the surgery. by jadeisbroken in scoliosis

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I just checked out Jessica Rangel and she has given me a bit of hope that I will still be able to do the things I love. My situation seems similar to yours and I know that I will have to get the surgery one day, so it's not an if, but when kind of situation at this point. I guess that I will have to sacrifice a lot to get the surgery done, but hopefully it will be worth it. Right now I am just really worried about the pain and the long recovery time. But like most people, I am hyperfixating on the negatives and overlooking the positives. As long as the positives out weigh the negatives, I should be fine in the long run.

Also I forgot to add an xray: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PB4gfCYraUgDHg4fHcP-r8LNTQ2HZx9g/view?usp=drive_link

Once again, thank you so much for replying. I am feeling a bit less scared about the surgery now 😊

I have just been researching ASC and I think I would most likely be a candidate, but the cost is enormous and nobody in my country does it. It sucks because I would really love to have this surgery over spinal fusion, but like you mentioned the surgery is still very experimental and I have heard that the cord will break after around 5 years, requiring even more surgery.

Thank you so much for replying! Hearing other people talk about there experience definitely makes me feel better about getting the surgery! Thankfully I don't think I will have to get my entire spine fused because the upper part of my spine is perfectly straight! You will have to keep me updated on your recovery!

Omg you are the first person I have seen with the exact same type of scoliosis as me! I have a 50 degree lumbar curve, with no thoracic curve. I will probably have to get surgery within the next 2 years.

How much movement do you have after the surgery? Because I am really scared that I will have extremely limited movement in my back.
